The headline, of course, comes from the occasional LGF tagline. But here is new evidence of its truth. This afternoon, after I arrived in Boise, Idaho, to speak at Boise State University, I had the pleasure of having lunch with two members of the campus chapter of the College Republicans. One was John Sawmiller, president of the chapter, who told me that when Hans Blix spoke at the campus some time ago, he had the unenviable task of driving him around Boise.
So in the course of things, Sawmiller asked Blix how he could advocate negotiations with Iran, given the intransigence of Ahmadinejad.
Ahmadinejad, Blix countered, was in fact a "pragmatist" and a "pluralist." A man who could be reasoned with. George W. Bush, by contrast, said Blix, was a "theologian," driven by a religious fanaticism that was not open to reason.

John Sawmiller thought driving Hans Blix around was unenviable?
Mr. Sawmiller could have had the adventure of his lifetime in baiting Mr. Blix with leading questions.
Blix would have deemed the "kid" a mind to mentor being a hick from Idaho in showing him the socialist European Ordered light.
(This is Blix's view as I love Idaho to Elmer Keith depths.)
When a fish shows up Mr. Sawmiller, play it as the memories and revelations will be the stuff books are made of.
Why was being the personal chauffeur to Hans Blix the job of the College Republican, rather than the College Democrat? In fact, why do College Republicans, who would presumably be on the same side as the President, entertain a major international embarrassment to the president such as Blix in the first place?
Secondary question is why does Blix have a visa to travel in the US? Of course, given that Taliban and Iranians get to travel here, guess that should be no surprise.

Mr. Sawmiller was not chauffering Mr. Blix as a College Republican officer. Blix was not speaking at the invitation of the College Republicans. Mr. Sawmiller is a member of another group that got Mr. Blix to campus -- a group that ostensibly has no ideological bent of its own.

"Pragamatist" and "pluralist"? I vaguely remember similar terms being used to describe "Mr. Hitler" by conservative Germans who were certain that they could control him.
Both actually are theologians, and unopen to reason. The difference is that one is closed to an overly optimistic view of human nature and political correctness which is their downfall, while the other follows a theology of hate and bigotry and repression. If one could reason with Bush, America would have left Iraq long ago and wouldn't be foolishly trying to install and maintain peaches and cream democracies where none can truly exist. Bush realizes he needs to figure out Islam so what does he do? Buys a book on Abraham -- LOL. If one could reason with Ahmadinejad -- okay, that's pretty much unimaginable. He's a nut planning for doomsday when he's not holding Holocaust denial conferences or hammering away about America and Israel being wiped off the face of the Earth as he puts it, or planning for the coming of some Islamic messiah who's supposed to crawl out of a well!
But clearly Blix is the biggest nut here. Imagine -- somebody that oblivious to Ahmadinejad as head of the body inspecting/reporting nuclear issues. It's not the theologian Ahmadinejad who's the most dangerous man on the planet, but Blix.
Blix is a treat lawyer. Treaty lawyers love tyrants, because they are a perpetual source of broken treaties which need to be re-negotiated.
Working with a tyrant is like a full-employment contract for a whole staff of assistants, and the constant problems provide a good excuse for increases in the budget.
Look at the bright side...

The movie makes fun of Middle Eastern terrorists hilariously also. It mercilessly ridicules the left in Hollywood, but also gets in some pretty funny jabs at conservatives and certain aspects of the American military ethos. But the soldier sitting a few seats away from me with his girlfriend didn't seem to mind at all and was laughing out loud with the rest of us.
Sounds like Blix was deliberately being rude and stating an opinion more extreme than the one he actually holds. Who knows, maybe Blix was offended that an unfamiliar college student would dare to try to engage Blix in debate. So Blix decided to be snotty. European professors, at least if they have some grey hair, sometimes seem to be much more standoffish to students than are American professors, and to consider it presumptuous if a student addresses them outside a classroom in other than a rather formal, deferential way.

Blix will never admit he is wrong. A massive attack on Europe or America will only prove to Blix (in his own mind, anyway and assuming he survives) that the fanatic theologian and all the people who supported him are to blame.
Europeans said as much after 9/11. We're sorry this happened to you America, but you COULD have avoided all these deaths if only you were as enlightened as we are. If only you were more cosmopolitan and less Christian, you wouldn't have incurred their wrath.
