Iran will shoot a movie and publish a book about he detention of the fifteen Royal Navy crewmembers in a bid to disclose the whole truth, DPA reported, citing a statement of Iran armed forces.The statement, circulated to foreign journalists in Tehran, says that the documentary and the book will trace the whole process, starting from the detention of the British sailors, their interrogations and what was described as "their confessions that they strayed into Iranian waters."

The British government on Monday night capitulated to an overwhelming public outcry over the sale of interviews by the sailors and marines detained by Iran, as it rushed through a ban on any further media deals by armed forces personnel.
With the controversy widening into accusations that the government was fostering a culture that devalued heroism and promoted instant celebrity, Defence Secretary Des Browne said the navy's earlier decision -- which he had endorsed -- to let the 15 former detainees sell their stories had "not reached a satisfactory outcome."
While the Ministry of Defence said the navy had applied existing regulations correctly, the head of the army, General Richard Dannatt, allowed it to be known he was unhappy about the move.
The decision to allow the sailors and marines to sell their stories for sums of up to ?100,000 (US$197,000) was condemned by opposition politicians, families of dead service personnel and former officers.
Some of the 15 have already given interviews for free.

I was thinking along the same lines as Omegaman - Billy Zane and Gary Busey - with a cameo by Sean Penn - three people who have absolutely no idea what "moral equivalence" is - (or means). What Iran plans on doing is really not surprising when you stand back and view the bigger picture of their previous accomplishments (recall Lebanon last August or the "burned alive worshippers" last year in Iraq). I think the BBC will be all over this movie. They will show it repeatedly and push it through the Radio. It will be so much more appealing to the Average Brit than any Hero's could ever be.

You are right, we are mortified -- and that means most of "the British" for once -- but what is even more mortifying to the already mortified British is the unjustified gloating displayed by Americans on this site -- and not, I'm afraid to say, discouraged by Robert when he uses throwaway phrases like "the once-proud British". I'm afraid the "barbs" you refer to are almost always instigated by anti-British posters. I don't recall Brits wading in with comments about the Americans in general whenever there is an example of dhimmitude in the U.S. (and there are many, of course).
