While it is clearly 100% disgusting and heinious and wrong to celebrate these tragic conflcits, the sunni-shiite splits anywhere in any islamic nation needs to be exploited 24/7.

Exploiting ethnic conflicts are often even more important, especially when the ethnic conflict in question is between arabized/islamized and non-arabized peoples. Darfur and the N orth-African Amazigh-Arab conflicts are two obviously and frequently cited examples, but Paksitan has them too. There, it is in the form of the Paki "punjabs" (who of course are NOT real Punjabs) and Pathans, technically not Arab but thoroughly islamized and shameless Arab-Wannabes and peoples far less islamized and Arabized, the Balochis, ethnic Sindhis and natives of PoK (esp Northern Areas). In neighboring Afghanistan, similair conflicts exist between more islamized Pathans, much more likely to be supportive of the Taliban, and their less Islamized rivals Tajiks and Hazara, at odds with Pathans since they are SHiite and also because they are more interested in exploring the heritage they have outside Islam. In Afghanistan, it was the ethnic Hazara who portested the loudest against the Taliban razing of the buddha statues and at least one Hazara has even been jailed in U.S. liberated Afghanistan for stating it was morally wrong and unjustificable to execute Abdul Rahman.

Will all the muslims in these cases, (Darfur, North Africa, Pakistan or Afghanistan) become apostates simply upon us encouraging their resentment? Not likely, but we can at least help them in their realization that the so-called unity to the Islamic ummah is just canon fodder. Muslims will never be considered part of the Ummah by Arab Islamists so long as they have any desire to have a heritage that does not have anything to do with Islam. Sunnis living under Shiite domiantion wil continue to be seen as kuffar, as will Shiites living under Sunni domination. The realities concerning the myth of the islamic ummah should encourage a fair number of muslims to leave the system, while others at the very least end up taking the initiative to start a REAL reformation and pacifying of Islam that has long been considered unlikely if feasible at this point.

P.S. Abdullah, the Sunni-'Shit' split is much more even in the Middle East, once you don't count Pakistan, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Malaysia and any of Africa or Turkestan. If you just focus on the Middle East, it's more like 55%-45%, rather than 87%-10%. I do hope that the 'Shits' become powerful enough at the expense of the Sunnis, and then I'll egg you both on.

The conflict in Northern Ireland was always more about ethnicity than religion. During one of the many rebellions against English rule, many of the Irish in Ulster and the surrounding areas were killed or driven into exile. Scottish and English Protestants came as colonists. Unlike the French Catholic-Protestant wars or the English Roundheads vs Cavaliers, the conflict in Ireland was never about trying to convert anyone, but about who would have control, the descendants of the native Irish or the Anglo-Scots. They weren't relatives who chose different sides in a religious debate, but ethnic groups that had been in conflict for centuries.

Now given the tribal nature of the Middle East, it is quite likely there is a degree of ethnic conflict that is manifesting itself as a religious division in the above scenario. However, you have the added element that Islam teaches subjugation of the infidel. So far as I can figure, the definition of "infidel" in Islam seems to pretty much be "anyone who doesn't practice the faith like I think it should be practiced." The texts of the Christian faith don't support that kind convert-or-die domination, which is why true intra-Christian warfare (convert or else, as opposed to conflict between ethnic or tribal groups) was of a far shorter duration than in Islam, where it has been happening for 14 centuries. Witness Exhibit A (for Abdullah) who "hates" Shiites and wants them all dead. Any Catholics/Protestants here have that much animosity towards the other?

How naieve. The Bush Administration once hoped to topple Saddam, make certain there were no WMDs, establish a democratic government (a government where public opinion matters), get all of Iraq's debts canceled (France, Germany, etc.) and be out of Iraq in 2 years. All that has turned to ashes because of Islam. they can't overcome that. We have to face and deal with reality.

Ultimately, there will be a nuclear war in this region because of the Jew-hatred inherent in Islam. They can't overcome that either. Only an ill-informed American could say that. The war in Northern Ireland since 1971 was sectarian in nature. The fact that they were Protestant or Catholic was just a backdrop to the troubles - it was almost tribal in nature. I never once heard a Provisional IRA member or a UDF member say, "I planted this bomb because my religion motivated me - here are the verses that support that" - in that sense it is quite different from Islam.

Frankly I would like see all the stupid Americans who prior to 9/11 gave money to the IRA without realising they were terrorists spend the rest of their lives incarcerated - it would be justice. 3 arrested in Yemeni mosque fire

SAN'A, Yemen -- Yemeni police arrested three men Saturday suspected of setting fire to a mosque and wounding at least 33 people, six seriously, police said.

Attackers locked the doors of the al-Ameriyah Mosque in Amran, 40 miles north of the capital, San'a, poured fuel over the worshippers and set fire to the building, the Yemeni state news agency Saba reported Friday.

It was not immediately clear if the attack was related to the ongoing conflict between the Sunni-dominated government and Shiite rebels in Saada, a province 110 miles north of the capital.

Amran is predominantly Shiite, but the locals are from the small Zaidi sect, which is closer to Sunni Islam than other Shiite traditions. It was not known if the worshippers attacked on Friday were Sunnis or Shiites.

A Yemeni police official, speaking on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to talk to the media, told The Associated Press of Saturday's arrests but did not provide further details.

"Unknown men set fire to the mosque, leaving behind more than thirty-three casualties who were admitted to hospitals in the governorate," said Amran Governor Taha Hajr on Friday, according to Saba.

Saba reported the attack was the third in Amran. In 2001, a man opened fire on worshippers, killing three, and in 2003 a bomb exploded in a mosque killing one man and wounding 50, the news agency said.

Government officials have not linked these previous attacks to the conflict in Saada, where followers of Shiite rebel leader Abdel-Malek al-Hawthi have engaged government forces in fierce fighting that military officials say has killed hundreds of rebels and government troops. The rebels, known as "the Young Faithful Believers," have accused the government of being corrupt and too close to the West.

Yemen, a poor, tribal country at the southern tip of the Arabian Peninsula, is the ancestral homeland of Osama bin Laden, but has been an active participant in the U.S.-led war on terrorism since the September 11 attacks.
