The reformist website Rooz reported on April 5, 2007 that the Friday prayer leader of Shiraz, a city in the heart of Iran, had called for more public punishments, as prescribed by "hodud," Islamic penal law.After a convicted thief’s hand was amputated in public in Kermanshah, Ayatollah Mohiyeddin Shirazi, an appointee of the supreme leader of Iran, criticized the halting of public punishments, and added, "Those who say that practices like amputating hands belong to the past are themselves part of the past." He also claimed that imprisonment had no effect "on educating criminals and reducing crime."...
Kermanshah judiciary head Allahyar Malekshahi promised more amputations in the future and said that citizens had requested the public amputation.
According to Rooz, following the punishment Malekshahi told IRNA that the punishment had been approved by Iran’s Supreme Court. He added that if thieves "don’t want their hands cut off, they should stop stealing." Also, the Etemad daily quoted Kermanshah’s governor as saying that carrying out hodud in public "has a visible effect on controlling the crime rate."
I predict that those who say that practices like amputating hands belong to the past are themselves part of the past will themselves be a part of the past in the not too distant future.

I just watched the History Channel's documentary called "Inside Islam". In my view this was a PC infommecial and the definition of dimmitude. How many people have channel surfed to this piece of garbage I wonder?
In summary, all the real smart university professors guarantee Islam is a religion of peace, and we can all go to sleep rest assured that our Muslim neighbors are good. They brought us wonderful advances in Algebra, Natural Science, Medicine, and allowed women freedom to inherit and vote hundreds of years before the West. Apparently, a few bad ones (just in the last few years) are being unfairly accused in today's MSM giving Islam a bad name. This is the "History Channel" after all. Maybe you guys have just been jerking my chain. They said nothing about world Islamization being a core objective in the Koran, or that the messenger Mohammed dreamed up his revelations to support his obsession for terror, women, riches, and power. Guess some of those other things I've been reading are way off base. Shhhhhhewww (wiping forehead).
This is a film that I would not recommend to the general public but can be useful to those wanting to know more about.....

This was a shameful display of PC in it's worst form by the History Channel. Now I have to question all those films I've viewed produced by them.

The problem ,they have cut off a thousand hands, what did it get, more stealing, just like our prisons, repeat offenders don't care what the consequences are, they live for the time.

Let's hear what the Bible - centuries older than the Qur'an - has to say about theft.
Hebrew Scriptures, from at least 500 BC, Exodus 22: 1- 9. The general rule appears to be that the thief should make restitution. e.g. Exodus 22: 1 - 'if a man steals an ox or a sheep and kills it or sells it, he shall pay five oxen for an ox, and four sheep for a sheep. He shall make restitution; if he has nothing, then he shall be sold for his theft. If the stolen beast is found alive in his possession, whether it is an ox or an ass or a sheep, he shall pay double." (Similarly, if someone defrauds another in some way they are required to pay back with extra on top - Leviticus 6: 1- 5, 'he shall restore it in full, and shall add a fifth to it'). [Perhaps Jewish people posting here might be able to add to this core account, with some rulings from Tradition?].
The principle of restitution is reiterated and extended within the Christian Scriptures, 1st century AD.
The letter of Paul to the church in Ephesus, chapter 4, verse 28: "Let the thief no longer steal, but rather let him labour, doing honest work WITH HIS HANDS, so that he may be able to give to those in need".
So: even in the Torah text the thief keeps his hands - he might become a slave [not unlike the thieving convicts who were sent to penal colonies in Australia or the Americas!] but he stays alive and unmutilated. The Christian scriptures envisage a repentant thief transformed into a hard worker and generous giver of alms (this of course assumes he has paid back what he stole). Both the Hebrew and the Christian rulings are infinitely more humane than Islamic sharia law.

In case you don't get it, I'll explain it to you: If you think you can set insanely harsh consequences for certain actions, don't be surprised when others respond in kind. Be thankful that the US didn't go overboard and unleash nuclear devastation on the entire Middle East after 9/11, and Britain showed remarkable restraint in dealing with its hostage crisis.
The Muslims went into a frenzy, just because they love the sight of blood....THe Iranians sent thousands of unarmed children against the Iraqis in order to clear the Iraqi minefields..the sight of childrens body parts flying about must have given the Iranian soldiers orgasms all day long....
