Lal Masjid Update from the Times of India, with thanks to Sr. Soph:
ISLAMABAD: Notwithstanding the nationwide rallies which are being held against attempts to enforce strict Islamic law here, a radical cleric has said that dance and music would not be permitted in Pakistan and those interested in these should go to India."We will not wait more. It will now be Sharia (law) or shahadat (martyrdom)," said Maulana Abdul Aziz, one of the clerics of Lal Masjid who have threatened to impose the strict Islamic law in a month's time in the capital.
In his Friday prayer sermon, he said those interested in dance and music should go to India, the media here reported.
Aziz vowed to enforce Sharia in the country even if the government did not itself do so, saying the Sharia would be enforced at any cost for which the whole nation should support the mosque's management.
"We don't need the government's help for the enforcement of an Islamic system because we are capable enough to do it without its assistance," he said.
His comments came as moderate political parties like Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM), Pakistan People's Party (PPP) and human rights and women rights groups held massive rallies all over Pakistan, opposing threats by the Lal Masjid clerics and their supporters to resort to moral policing and impose Sharia law.
I think it was back in the time of Zia al Haq that ballroom dancing was banned in Pakistan. In the UK , at the time, this pastime was largely seen as an activity for the middle-aged and elderly. That Islamic society should ban it as a moral threat is not just one moral example of how ludicrous the religion is - it also highlights the religion's Achilles heel. It makes life unbearably drab for its adherents - to the extent that, in Muslim communities in large western cities, their children start showing symptoms of sensory deprivation. In fact dancing and music (at least under certain circumstances) are common throughout the Islamic world by one of these tacit agreements to ignore the more extreme idiocies of the religion in order to make life bearable. As for the injunction against pictorial representation of humans and animals - photography, TV and cinema have their prophet's strictures more or less a dead letter.
"We will not wait more. It will now be Sharia (law) or shahadat (martyrdom)," said Maulana Abdul Aziz, one of the clerics of Lal Masjid who have threatened to impose the strict Islamic law in a month's time in the capital.
Well now... that seems like a diffrent choice from the usual convert, die or pay the dhimmi tax.
Hmmm.. let's see, Sharia law, or his shahadat... choices, choices, choices.
I know that anti sharia rallies and demonstrations have been taking place in pakistan recently and even Mr. Spencer is of the view that this is a good thing. He believes that the moderates should come out and speak. For the record, ever since Mr. Negroponte made his "pak is the global hub of al-qaeda" speech sometime around Jan. 11, pakistanis are on a taqqiya overdrive. They seem to have discovered that the ruins of the Indus Valley Civilization are in their territory and they have embarked upon the reconstruction of some of the temples. One of the temples, The Temple Of KatasRaj, actually is restored and Hindus were invited to perform prayers there on the occasion of Basant Panchami. Then the pakistanis found a stupid Sikh and inducted him into their army. The newspapers here carried the poor moron's image. Next, the pakis discovered a small Jewish minority in their midst. Then, for apparently no reason at all, they started constructing a Krishna temple. The last Krishna temple in pakistan was destroyed in 1947, when pak was born from India, much like an islamic Kosovo that is about to be born from Serbia. The pakis have sent a formal request to India to send statues of Krishna for this temple.
The pakistanis are trying hard to prove that they are a tolerant, multicultural society. I would have shared Mr. Spencer's optimism that "moderates" are coming out, but what I want to know is ;
1. Why were the Krishna temples destroyed in the first place and where were these so-called "moderates" then ?
2. It took them 60 years to induct a non-muslim into their army ?
3. Where was the Jewish minority of pakistan until now and from where have these people surfaced all of a sudden ?
4. Why the sudden interest in the Indus Valley Civilization when, for years, these ruins have not been preserved, but systamatically destroyed by the pakistanis ?
And last but not the least, where were these so-called "moderates" when 1.5 million Hindus were butchered by muslim mobs in 1947 in West Punjab (now pakistan) and half a million that were butchered in East Bengal (now bangladesh). Blood flew in the streets of lahore and rawalpindi and karachi and dhaka and a thousand other cities and villages across pak and bangladesh, and no "moderates", repeat, no "moderates" tried to save the helpless Hindus, ordinary, everyday people like you and I who had to abandon their homes, lands, businesses just to save their families. These people became refugees in their own country, and now the Serbians of Kosovo are going to face this fate.
What I want to know is, where were these so-called "moderates" then ?
'Those interested in dance should go to India'
Those interested in Sharia should go to . . .
Islam- the TotenTanz.
(That's Dance of Death for the non-German reading.)
Song and dance are abhorred in Islam.
One of the nightmare experiences Muslim Brotherhood ideologue Sayyid Qutb had while on a visit to the US in 1949, was seeing a dance to the tune of the Christmas song “Baby, It’s Cold Outside”. The song got an Acadamy Award a year later in 1950 for Best Original Song.
The pernicious song that Sayyid Qutb the Egyptian Islamist heard on a gramophone in a church hall in 1949 can be heard twice in the 1949 movie, Neptune’s Daughter.
"Baby, It's Cold Outside" is mentioned in a key passage from The America I Have Seen, a 1951 book by Sayyid Qutb. He described the scene as a record of the song was played at a church dance in the town of Greely, Colorade:”The dance hall convulsed to the tunes on the gramophone and was full of bounding feet and seductive legs ... Arms circled waists, lips met lips, chests met chests, and the atmosphere was full of passion."
You can briefly hear the song, and get a whiff of Hollywood era 1950 by watching the 33 second movie trailer in the enclosed link:
http://www.videodetective.com/titledetails.aspx?publishedid=735&customerid=63482
According to its opening voiceover, Neptune's Daughter is "a story about a guy, a girl, and a bathing suit." Oh, but it's so much more than that. Esther Williams plays Eve, a (surprise!) swimming champion who gives up her amateur status to design and model swimwear. She also plays chaperone to her boy-crazy sister Betty, who is determined to meet Jose (Ricardo Montalban), the captain of the visiting South American polo team--only instead she mistakenly meets amiable masseur Red Skelton, who she thinks is Jose, and meanwhile... well, it's best not to think about the plot. It'll just make your head hurt and it's really not the point, is it? The point is a charming romance between Williams and Montalban; the music, including the Oscar-winning "Baby, It's Cold Outside"; and Xavier Cugat and his orchestra playing the kind of song-and-dance numbers that seem to require a wind machine inside the nightclub. And just when you think the movie is going to end without a hilariously elaborate water ballet number, Esther comes through for you.
Why don't they set aside a little piece of Pakistan where these nutters can live their islamic fundamentalist lives and prepare for paradise. They will of course have to sort out their own little economy, health, education, housing etc etc.
Let's see how they like that while they regress to the 7th century.
This Lal Masjid is clearly under the influence of Saudi Arabia. I would venture to say that it's clerics are Saudi trained and that many mosque members probably spent years working in Saudi Arabia driving taxis or doing construction. They then brought the Salafi madness back to Pakistan. Salafiyyah is alien to Pakistan but it is being forced on them by wannabe-Saudis.
We are not in this world to dance, sing and play about. if God wanted that, He would have entertained Himself with something closer to him, preferably something made out of light, like the angels, not weak clay-made creatures.....
We are here to worship God, wake up people, time is tick-tocking to the hour
sorry abdeluded, but it's proven that even cave men started express themselves with artistic display, such as painting (graffiti) and music (ancient tamburines, horns etc)
creativity is within human, but that is alien to you since you are a sub-human or even less.
another thing
what is tick-tocking might be your empty brain. when you have only one cell swinging in all that emptyness, that's what happens.
The goblin Abdullah finally says something that makes sense.
If God exists, and I most certainly believe he does - then as creator of our universe (apparently infinite judging by the small window we have on it), and God having access to every conceivable entertainment and creation, even if those things are produced by random chance in the seemingly infinite expanse we can observe with our puny technologies - there is only one possible reason he would have created us, and is to be loved by us.
Nothing we could otherwise offer or produce would mean anything to God.
If God exists, then man's attempt at creating a Godless, secular, socialist utopia on earth is doomed to fail.
In my opinion, what the goblin Abdullah fails to notice is that Allah is not God, but the fallen angel Satan.
We are not in this world to dance, sing and play about. if God wanted that, He would have entertained Himself with something closer to him, preferably something made out of light, like the angels, not weak clay-made creatures. We are here to worship God, wake up people, time is tick-tocking to the hour
Why isn't the point about entertainment also applicable to worship? Why wouldn't God prefer the worship of angels (assuming they exist, which they don't) to that of humans?
Your imaginary Allah doesn't exist. Never has, never will. The idea that some cosmic clock is ticking toward some elusive hour in which Allah will do something or other is simply inaccurate analysis of the universe. At least have the self-awareness to realize this. If you wish to persist in pursuing your ridiculous Islamic agenda, don't at the same time insult my intelligence by calling it divine.
The fact that we are made of clay, to use your metaphor, in no way logically implies anything you've said. All it implies is that some day each of us will die. The historical fact that some people have imagined that they understand what happens after we die in no way, logically, implies that they actually were accurate. The very fact that every heaven ever imagined bears a very striking resemblance to the best things we experience on earth, with God thrown in in some abstract way, proves that all these people were just imagining their own life and how awesome it could be, when they say they are imagining heaven. That is the true meaning of Marx's "opiate of the masses" phrase and just happens to be one of the things he got correct.
Which, again, brings me to my conclusion about Islam, which is that it adds no value to human life because it cannot provide an accurate analysis of anything that exists because Muhammed did not have a scientifically-inclined mind, being a primitive without any understanding of cause and effect. There is no scientific reason for Islam to continue to exist.
I just want to know if "dance" includes the Frug and Watusi? My dance moves stopped with them.
venividivici and mike_w, are you sure that the lonely brain cell in abdeluded empty head can process the meaning of even one of your sentences?
FedUpagain,
I hear you. If he comes back and replies, it will undoubtedly be with some BS quote from some BS Muslim source that "proves" we are here to worship God.
As if I weren't capable of figuring out the meaning of my life without Mohammed's help! Hell, my life was much better before I had to start worrying about these jackholes flying planes into skyscrapers, so Islam has already degraded my quality of life just by its existence. I don't like things that degrade my quality of life.
BTW, Abdullah, by your logic, we're not here to sleep, either, since you can't worship God when you're sleeping. Here's an idea: Stay awake until you can't stay awake any longer. When you start seeing things, that's just Allah's way of telling you your doing it right. At that moment, go out of your house and start walking in the middle of a busy highway. Don't worry, Allah won't let anything bad happen to you.
The imposition of sharia in muslim countries is a good thing. I agree with the troll that they should be shielded from all things Western and be forced to fully and exclusively immerse themselves in the 'blessings' of islam. They deserve no less.
"We are not in this world to dance, sing and play about" Abbie, above
I'm not so arrogant as to think I know why we are in this world: what is more interesting is what is a crackpot like you doing in the UK?
Assalamau Laikum all,
"We will not wait more. It will now be Sharia (law) or shahadat (martyrdom),"
The Aziz bros in charge at the Lal Masjid are the two sons of the famous Mulana Aziz (tragically murdered) who so influenced Zia. Like Abu like Beta Jaan as they say over here.
There have been hughely successful singers and muscians here in Pak like Mahdi Hassan, Gulam Ali, some of the best tabla players and ofcourse Quwaal music is very prevelent on many of the TV channels.
Even the Quaran is recited in a ryhthm.
I am starting to be disappointed with the Aziz brothers...rather than "slow and steady as she goes"...all they will achieve is shahadat (at least their followers will).
Great strides towards sharia can be made through a phased approach ...and that's the only way for success.
Trying to impose a stop to all forms of music is stupid....stopping rock n roll, guitars, westerns drum kits is more palatable...aziz bros needs to learn this before it is too late.
It's difficult to take a woman who believes her testimony is worth only half that of a man, seriously.
Why Allah, who is considered by Muslims to be unpredictable and unfathomable, needed to create anything shows the essential flaw in ALL Mohammedan logic:
-only a being who was "incomplete" needs to create ANYTHING (the material universe, humanity, et al).
And, if Allah was thus "incomplete", it means he is not "perfect". And, as such, could not be what Muslims mean by "God" (a perfect being), and therefore is not worthy of their worship or obedience.
Their imams' and mullahs' and ayatollahs' insistence on keeping their fellow Muslims ignorant of the basics of critical thinking (Logic, Epistemology, etc.) traps them in the headlock of irrationality known as Islam.
They are not permitted to think their way out of this "holy" cage.
Only apostasy can free their souls.
Naseem,
As I recall, your husband is a shoemaker? Does he make dancing shoes?
Profitsbeard,
You are right, of course. The problem is that despite their mental retardation (they really are a global form of retard), they retain the physical capacity to cause damage, with Western technology.
Muslims constantly pat themselves on the back about how superb their entire system is as a way of avoiding how retarded the entire system is. Socrates would have had a field day with these people.
Sounds like they want to form a paralell government.
I doubt that the current government will want to share power with them. This could mean trouble...
venividivici-
Lenny, the giant imbecile in "Of Mice And Men", could destroy things by not realizing his own strength. So, at times, it doesn't take anything more than being ambulatory to be dangerous.
Islam- the walking wounded (victims of the malicious ramblings of a pedophile "prophet") who trample to death everything in their blind path.
If we could just get them walking in circles around the Ka'aba, they could at least be contained to slaughtering themselves.
It will now be Sharia (law) or shahadat (martyrdom)," said Maulana Abdul Aziz ---
OK, Mr Aziz, if you insist -- (yells to the grandstand) Who's gonna help this guy in his quest for martyrdom?
Now isn't soon enough far as I'm concerned.
"BTW, Abdullah, by your logic, we're not here to sleep, either, since you can't worship God when you're sleeping. Here's an idea: Stay awake until you can't stay awake any longer. When you start seeing things..." -- VVV
Isn't this the story of how Islam was created by hallucinating muhammad?
abdullah,
how bout worshiping God by utilizing all talents bestowed upon one. Dance is one such talent. Don't understand its purpose? Or do you simply possess two "left" feet?
Abdullah, God did make something to entertain us. He made you.
No music, no dancing, no laughter, no joy, no love, no life........
The death cult strikes again.
Actually, what kind of dance is it? The young people today, starting from rap and such, are doing the ugligest type of movements. And the rest of the world follows suit.
Primitive or Tribal Peoples don't even dance like this.
It's worse than Elvis' - for some reason he was cute. But this dance today is a blatant acting of the sexual act. Keep it in the bedroom please.
Any dance but that, please.
We are not in this world to dance, sing and play about. if God wanted that, He would have entertained Himself with something closer to him, preferably something made out of light, like the angels, not weak clay-made creatures.....
We are here to worship God, wake up people, time is tick-tocking to the hour

well our two Islamic trolls has spoken so I guess we all should be good little dhimmi and listen to them not I happen to enjoy folk music here Paul Merry Joan Baez Stan Rogers and tanglefoot and my wife's playing of 12 string guitar I enjoy music as a celebration of the joy of the human spirit and there is no way I'm going to let the legacy of the seventh century pedophile cult leader Mohammed that hated dogs and music in Islamic religious leaders today tell me I cannot have my musicin the fact Muslims hate music just shows how backwards they are
But what if it's not the chicachoca samba? What if all you had in mind was a stately minuet?
Instead of a heart that beat in a rhythm, it was a turbine like organ that did not make a rhythmic thump in our chests, there might not be music as we know it. 4/4 time is a very common musical beat, similar to the heart. Music and rhythm is God's (not Allah's) creation.
There, an explanation for the ages.
And what about "The Music of the Spheres"?
Why do all forces vibrate?
Why is energy nothing by rhythms?
Allah's slipping... can't even prevent the universal timbre of the sub-atomic harmonies.
(The day they do "The Mexican Hat Dance" around the Ka'aba, Civilization will be saved.)
Well, about music, I dedicate this song - a rendition of the yearning of all mankind, I dedicate it to Monkey Man, Abdullah, Nassem, Khomenei, and Khomeini:

Pakistani culture is an oxymoron. I too would ban their music and dancing. I detest the sound of wailing and disjointed foot and hand movements.
