BAGHDAD - An al-Qaida front group announced it had captured American soldiers in a deadly attack the day before, as thousands of U.S. troops searched insurgent areas south of Baghdad for their three missing comrades.The statement Sunday came on one of the deadliest days in the country in recent weeks, with at least 124 people killed or found dead. A suicide truck bomb tore through the offices of a Kurdish political party in northern Iraq, killing 50 people, and a car bombing in a crowded Baghdad market killed another 17....
The Islamic State in Iraq offered no proof for its claim that it was behind the attack Saturday in Mahmoudiya that also killed four U.S. soldiers and an Iraqi translator. But the Sunni area known as the "triangle of death" is a longtime al-Qaida stronghold.
If the claim proves true, it would mark one of the most brazen attacks by the umbrella Sunni insurgent group against U.S. forces here....
The Islamic State is a coalition of eight insurgent groups. Late last month, it named a 10-member "Cabinet" complete with a "war minister," an apparent attempt to present the Sunni coalition as an alternative to the U.S.-backed, Shiite-led administration of Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki....

I miss the Cold War. Would we have prated on about democratic Communism? And Communism didn't even preach the killing or subjugation of non-Communists, at least not explicitly.
We would never have fought for any regime which enshrined Communism in its constitution, elected or not.
We won that one because we understood the enemy and weren't afraid to defeat it. Even the Vietnam War had more clarity - we were for the non-Communist South. Very simple.
This whole War on Terror is a mis-named muddle of half-baked notions.

I will not attempt to be a Monday morning quarterback re this issue so all thats left to say is I am extremely foggin angry about what our enemy is capable of doing to his fellow man.The real God will sit in judgment over these lowlifes,and boy the joke is gonna be on them but in the meantime we can change the rules of engagement to reflect reality a little more.

Round up a thousand men from the area where the troops were attacked.
Later that day have Iraqi tv show these "terrorism suspects", en masse, and then cut to a shot of a wall, and show 10 of these "prisoners" dragged into the frame, lined up against said wall, and shot.
And broadcast the ultimatum that 10 more, every hour, will be executed until our 3 kidnapped soldiers are released.
All you need are 10 of our swarthier guys- with some good acting- skills dressed as "10 different prisoners", every hour, shot at with blanks by a firing squad, and falling in writhing heaps as the volley erupts; the death scene being done as theatrically-frightening as possible.
No one needs to be hurt, but the enemy need not know.
