The EU suffers an attack of common sense, and is already receiving charges of "Islamophobia."
By Colleen Barry for Associated Press, with thanks to all who sent this in:
VENICE, Italy - Security officials from Europe's largest countries backed a plan Saturday to profile mosques on the continent and identify radical Islamic clerics who raise the threat of homegrown terrorism. The project, to be finished by the fall, will focus on the roles of imams, their training, their ability to speak in the local language and their sources of funding, EU Justice and Home Affairs Commissioner Franco Frattini told a news conference after a meeting on terrorism.
Italian Interior Minister Guiliano Amato said Europe had extensive experience with the "misuse of mosques, which instead of being places of worship are used for other ends.
"This is bringing about a situation that involves all of our countries and involves the possibility of attacks and developing of networks that use one country to prepare an attack in another," Amato said.
The transit attacks in Madrid and London — along with several thwarted terror plots — have raised concerns across Europe about the susceptibility of disaffected young Muslims to the messages of extremist clerics....
Adel Smith, a well-known Muslim activist in Italy, said mosques in Italy are already extensively monitored and called the EU plan discriminatory.
"I think this is nonsense, I think mosques have been well monitored for some years," he said in a telephone interview. "It is a form of religious discrimination."
Frattini emphasized the need of deeper dialogue with the Islamic communities "to avoid sending messages that incite hate and violence."
"profile mosques on the continent and identify radical Islamic clerics who raise the threat of homegrown terrorism."
One question, how will they know how to recognize a radical mosque or imam? They all look alike to me.
Second, I like this, building profiling. Is the building itself going to sue for discrimination?
Ah yes; the mosques. The ALBANIA Islamic Center on Staten Island (NY) has now hit the papers:

This is, of course, after SI mosques having been in the papers in connection to the Siraj case:

The point being that the nefarious activities are HERE, not some abstract "elsewhere". Hello, my fellow Americans - pay attention!
About time!! This is something we should have done after 9/11 here in the States. However, we bought into the whole Islam is peace thing. It is not profiling to monitor what is going on in these mosques; it is good police work. It's established that every person involved in an attack or attempted one has had a connection to a mosque, some of which espouse radical views. Therefore, we should go where the suspects are. Seems simple.
This is something that should have been forcefully addressed by the EU and all other western countries long ago. There is continious mounting evidence that mosques and madrasses are teaching anti-western values and violence against non believers. To long have we been giving a pass to them because Islam is considered a religion even though experts warn us that Islam is mostly political than religious.
If western countries would come together on this fully, than individual countries who take up this monitoring mantle unto themselves and would experience less risk of intimidation by the master of taquiya, and kitman at playing the victim at every turn and thus gaining sympathy from looney leftwingers and their perversion of multiculturalism and PC.
This could be one positive steps by those who want to preserve the historic foundations of their respective countries.
Another step is to confront the leftwingers who hate their own countries so much that they are blind to what Islam and its wonderful human rights record would bring to the western world.
Though leftwingers insist they are patriots, they are not. All one has to do is watch a protest in San francisco, or walk down the Venice Beach Walk south of Santa Monica occasionally.
"The EU suffers an attack of common sense,..."
Gorblimey! That is probably the first time I have ever seen "EU" and "common sense" together in the same sentance!! It will probably last only until the greasy lawyers start sueing.
Evidence of intelligent life on Earth?
We'll see ...
All mosques based on the Koran are radical.
If radical means misogynistic, despotic, tyrannical, contemptuous of all who are not Muslims, approving of assassination and promoting terrorism.
One more cost of inviting these theocratic cuckoos' eggs into the West.
Having to monitor their damned religious institutions. Along with having to take off your shoes before flying anywhere. And worrying about jihadist attacks on military bases, malls, tall buildings, government sites and the rest of the nation's infrastructure, schools, etc., etc.
Islam, the first parasite disguised as a "faith".
Who cares?
Mere "discrimination" is not per se bad. In the realm of religious discrimination, all the government needs in order to discriminate is any valid reason, and it must use methods suited to the reason.
Radical Islam is a grave security issue, one of the most severe threats in this age. If the government did not engage in this form of discrimination, then they would be fully derelict.
The next tactic is to say that this sort of conduct constitutes "racial" discrimination- which is not held to the same standard, but a much higher one. Any sentient multi-celled organism knows that a charge of "racism" vis-a-vis Islam is an outright lie.
Do these few things, and they'll be off to a good start.
Perhaps the EU finally now gets active as it concludes its prerogative and ability to rule might be thrown into doubt by the next terror attack...as if it weren't in doubt already.
I am against profiling. Profiling is an ill advised strategy. The EU should monitor all mosques not just the "radical" ones!
