What Khamenei did is termed brinksmanship in telling the world in Islamic poetic terms that Iran has nuclear warheads which every government in Europe and America knows.
This is why Patriot batteries are lining eastern Europe, into Turkey and certain Middle East states.

This is the open secret of why no one has hit Iran, because they have in back channels told the west if they are hit they will respond with nuclear missiles.
This is why Chirac sounded so odd early last year in publically warning Iran it would be nuked. This is when Iran went operational with limited Shahab 3 missiles tipped with old SS warheads.

The problem in this is not shooting the Shahab down, but in literally their falling to the ground and detonating.
The IDF can knock the Shahabs down, but they will blow up Jordan.
The Turks and Europeans can knock down the the Shahabs but they will blow up former Soviet block states causing an international big boy war.

These 10 to 20 megaton warheads are why Iran has been peeing in the punch with everyone acting like it is not happening.

For god's sake, the bomb at Nagasaki a week later was bigger than the bomb used at Hiroshima. The Iranian government does not understand. It does not understand that there is no need to invade Iran, no potential "quagmire," no nothing. From planes, from missiles, the only threat that matters to Infidels -- which consists of that nuclear project, and not of Iranian Shi'a missionary efforts in Syria, nor Shi'a unrest in Bahrain or Lebanon or the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia or Yemen -- can be dealt with.

But only if the Americans get out, swiftly, from Iraq and, with their hostages to present Iranian scheming (including supplying more powerful explosives to Al Qaeda in Iraq), and future potential retaliation after such an attack on its nuclear facilities.

No need to weaken the Shi'a threat to Sunni Arabs. One wishes the Shi'a to hold onto Baghdad, and thereby to force the Sunnis to do whatever they can, as a matter of pride, to recover it. But the nuclear project can be destroyed without destroying all of Iran. What the Sunni Arabs want is not necessarily what is best for the Camp of Islam.

Stick only to that nuclear project and not to undong all of Shi'a Islam. In Iraq the Shi'a have essentially won. They can afford even to supply Al Qaeda in Iraq, which regards the Shi'a as "Rafidite dogs," with weaponry. For that weaponry will be used against the Americans. And the Iranians want the Americans out, at this point, because they are certain that they, the Iranians and the local Shi'a, will be able to deal with their enemy Al Qaeda.

And Al Qaeda in Iraq similarly thinks that once the Americans are gone they, together with Sunnis in Iraq (the remains of Saddam Hussein's make-my-day day), and Sunni aid from outside Iraq, will prevail.

One of them will, in the very long run, be proven right. But ideally, and most likely, a low-level simmering war will continue for many years, years in which we, the Infidels, can recover our sanity, stop squandering our resources and realize that the best outcome for us, in Iraq, is that internal low-level (or high-level) warfare, and that our "victory" was the exact opposite of that which the Bsuh Administration defined as "victory" and that was always both unattainable and, for Infidels, unhelpful.

In the process of Bombing Iraq's Nuclear sites you will have no choice but to put the rest of the Country down.

You may start out by rendering some of the real Juicy targets useless but the Iranian Government will never let it rest.

At this stage, it is not the Nuclear Facilities that are the immediate threat. It is the weapon systems that are capable of delivering what they may already have, as well as what they can operate to prevent us from reaching our Goals.

The Iranians know they have but one chance for a Tet like gamble.

As I have said many times before here, the way out of this mess is to detonate an Electro Magnetic Impulse Weapon over Iran's airspace, which will leave Iran's fanatical lunatics in power unable to deploy ANY weapons of mass destruction anywhere.

Bush would not know victory if it hit him upside his head. He should have won the war when he won it, and left then, with a job well done. Now there are really no good choices. Since getting out would mean saving coalition/American lives, I have no objection to that if we dont look like losers doing it, and we secure Iraq oil fields. I dont mean guard them, I mean take them. Maybe when Iraq gets its sht together they can have the oil back and maybe not... I dont buy the fight them there rather than here routine. We are already, and increasingly, fighting them here.
