A defiant cleric warned Pakistan authorities that a raid on his mosque where two policemen are being held captive by radical Islamic students would lead to a holy war against the government, as police detained dozens of students.The abduction tops months of bold challenges by the Red Mosque to the authority of President Gen. Pervez Musharraf's secular, military government.
Interior Ministry spokesman Javed Iqbal Cheema said there were no plans to move against the mosque or a radical Islamic seminary attached to it in downtown Islamabad, adding Sunday that use of force to free the captured officers was a "last option."
But chief cleric at the mosque, Maulana Abdul Aziz, said police detained about 200 students and warned that a show of force by authorities would result in "jihad," or holy war.
Surely he means they will conduct an interior spiritual struggle against the authorities. Doesn't he?

A silly question- does anyone in that part of the Muslim world actually hold a job? It seems that there is indeed a constant call to jihad, and it makes me wonder, how indeed do these people support their 4 wives, 37+ children and 29 concubines? Or is that part of the world just waiting for their chance in a $ for a suicide bombing scheme?

This has little to do with religion but it has everything to do with Islamic gangsterism, bullyism, supremism, terrorism, and a bunch of other ism,'s. It's pretty clear that these 'ism's' emmenate from Islams hierarchy. Imamism, Mullahism, Muftism, Ayatollahism, and finally Shiekrattleandrollism. A long word meaning, 'he who has mastered the fine art of 'a little song and dance for the folks'. The common denominator is they all get inspired from the same source, Islamism, its god Allahism, and it's Prophet and main man, Mohammdism. Jihadism is how the other ism's maintain their supremism. Islam is buried in in 'ism's.
I could go on, but the list is endless...the Quran's got more 'ism's' than you can count...

Today, the Tourism Minister had to resign because no one in the government was brave enough to stand by her against rediculous charges by the same clerics.

Pakistan seems perilously close to being taken over (overtly) by the Taliban. As I posted in the "US Aid to Pakistan being used against India" story, Pakistani troops entered Afghanistan and attacked several Afghan posts last weekend. After a "truce meeting" INSIDE PAKISTAN, one of the Pakistani soldiers present yelled "Allah-u-Akbar" and opened fire on the US delegation killing 1 and wounding 4. WHY IS THIS NOT BEING REPORTED AS BREAKING NEWS ??? ... at least on the blogs (Robert, Charles?)
Musharraf's hold over his intelligence service and now his own military and government seems tenuous, at best. Islamists feel emboldened enough to issue fatwas against him and impose their own rule of law, and now he is having to shoot rioters in the streets. How long before a pro-Taliban military junta (with nukes) drops the Musharraf mask and openly takes his place?
