"Islamophobia Watch" notes that the "Mosques and Miracles" conference is based on Stuart Robinson's book of the same name. That book appears to focus on the imperative of world domination in Islamic teachings, in tandem with stories of Muslims who converted to Christianity. How very, very Islamophobic of them.
"Venue withdrawn over line on Islam," by Ian Steward for The Press:
The controversial Christian conference on the "threat" of Islam has lost its Christchurch venue after sponsors expressed unease at the tone of the seminars.
The move has drawn scorn from some Christians who see it as kowtowing to political correctness and "Muslim outrage".
The Mosques and Miracles conference was to be held at Spreydon Baptist church, but negative publicity surrounding the event had caused church management to reconsider.
In March, Muslim leaders condemned Mosques and Miracles as "a conference of bigots" after the organiser, Murray Dillner, said Islam made a society "implode" and had a mind-set to "take over the world".
Spreydon Baptist senior pastor Murray Robertson said sponsor pressure had triggered the decision. "A number of the people who support our community work said they weren't comfortable with the position. Part of their brief is to not support groups that are intolerant. We had no control over the content of the conference and we felt we were taking a whole bunch of hits for something we had nothing to do with.
"Spreydon Baptist Church wishes to make it quite clear that we are not anti-Muslim in our attitudes."
The Auckland and Wellington venues for the conference confirmed the conference would still go ahead at their churches.
Islamic Association president Javed Khan hailed Spreydon's move. "The tone of the conference did not sound right to me."
Therefore, it had to go.
Khan said conference organisers had assured him the motive was to promote religious tolerance. "I said to them `If you want to do something positive, why are there no Muslims invited?"'
A Christchurch minister, who declined to be named, said he felt the church leaders who made the decision had "wimped out".
"Since when have Christians getting together in Christchurch to discuss world issues of religion and society been dictated to by Muslim outrage? I think it's very sad and a bit sinister."
I went to the Spreydon Baptist Church website and chewed Pastor Robertson out on the "contact us" form for kowtowing to the Muslims.
Newsflash Pastor Robertson: You CAN be "anti-Muslim." It's allowed, it really is!
Shame on you, Pastor Robertson, for wimping out to the godless barbarians!
Pastor Robertson, a true Dhimmi Down Under.
The pressure to cancel this event has been evident for several months. Place your bets for similar pressure on the remaining venues:
Muslims Slam Conference of Christians
The [Christchurch] Press
23 March 2007
Ian Steward
A conference of Christian church leaders on the "threat" of Islam to New Zealand is being condemned as a "conference of bigots" by senior New Zealand Muslims.
The organiser of the Mosque and Miracles conferences, national director of Middle East Christian Outreach Murray Dillner, said the conference would address the threat posed by Islam to New Zealand society -- a threat he likened to the terrorist attacks in the United States of September 11, 2001.
"It's an underlying threat, but it's like the twin towers -- they imploded. Islam does the same thing to a society -- it makes it implode," he said.
"The mindset of Islam is to take over the world. They will do that by any means they can.
"The church in England ignored Islam. If the church in New Zealand doesn't rise up, we will be in the same situation."
Federation of Islamic Associations president Javed Khan said it was a "conference of bigots".
"It's fearmongering; Islamophobia. The organisers are prejudiced, biased bigots," he said.
"For heaven's sake, we are less than 1 per cent of the population. Muslims have been in New Zealand for a century. No Muslim has ever done anything like what they are afraid of."
The conference, scheduled for the Spreydon Baptist Church on July 23 and 24, will feature three Australian speakers.
Pastor Stuart Robinson, the author of the book Mosques and Miracles, lived among Muslims in Southeast Asia and has spoken at conferences in Australia and South Africa.
One of the speakers at the Australian conferences, Pastor Daniel Scot, was tried under Australian religious vilification laws in 2004.
Dillner said another speaker on the New Zealand tour, Daniel Sheyesteh, knew the militant side of Islam from his early years as a trainer for Hezbollah and from his involvement in the Iranian Islamic revolution.
Sheyesteh fell foul of the Iranian authorities and escaped execution by fleeing to Turkey, where he converted to Christianity, Dillner said.
"He speaks out very clearly about what Islam really is. Muslims don't have the freedom to change religion. If you do, they'll do their best to eradicate you," Dillner said.
A fellow organiser, Open Doors New Zealand director Bruce Quedley, said Islam was often portrayed as a religion of peace, but "realistically that's not what happens".
He said the conference was important as "we have adjusted to accommodate parts of society at the expense of Christianity".
Quedley said the conferences were restricted to church leaders to prevent those who may seek to "disrupt" the proceedings.
Acting Christchurch imam (religious leader) Mohammad Alayan said: "What do you make of it other than blind hatred?
"If they are going to criticise Islam, they should invite us to come and discuss it with them. There are many good Christians out there and I hope ... they will not go along with this."
Race Relations Commissioner Joris de Bres said freedom of speech meant viewpoints could not be suppressed "unless they lead to hostility".
Uh, hello, imam Mohammed Alayan - we can "hate" you if we want! We can be "anti-Muslim" if we want! You can't tell us how to feel!
Muslims will do all in their power to prevent the truth from reaching infidel ears...
Of particular relevance to JihadWatch...
One of the featured speakers at these NZ conferences will be Australian Mark Durie, a contributor of several excellent chapters in "The Myth of Islamic Tolerance: How Islamic Law Treats Non-Muslims" edited by Robert Spencer.
Mr. Dillner's comments, "Islam made a society 'implode' and had a mind-set to 'take over the world' "are vindicated by emperical evidence....look at any nation with even modicum amts of moslems and see the turmoil in those nations...and also by the daily spouting off of leading voices of islam not to mention the placards we've seen at demonstrations all over the world.
I guess it's not kosher for a Christian to have noticed.....
As for mr. javad's comments about the tone of the conference....I think the tone of what comes out of the islamic world every day isn't right but they feel it is their islamic imperative to spout off all their anti-everyone but the right kind of moslem stuff every day but of course...no one is supposed to notice.
Ban Muslim immigration now!
For those of you so inclined: there are 4 one day seminars throughout the US that will provide accurate info on islam by a group that equips Christians with evangelism methods for dealing with moslems. Dates are in Sept., Nov and Feb. 2008.
See www.crescentproject.org/sharingthehope.cfm
I intend to be at one of them.
"Since when have Christians getting together in Christchurch to discuss world issues of religion and society been dictated to by Muslim outrage? I think it's very sad and a bit sinister."
He nailed that right on....
Regardless of whether your are Catholic, Protestant or Orthodox, it is very sad and quite scary of things to come when we see our religious leaders either uneducated on islam or afraid to speak of it due to PC.
""Muslim outrage" stops Christian conference on Islam in New Zealand"
...more like Fear of Muslims.....
It's a Baptist event. They don't have to invite Muslims speakers to participate, for heaven's sake.
It's a Baptist event. Their intended audience is not Muslim spokespeople or apologists.
It's a Baptist event. Of course they are anti-Islam; that doesn't mean they are anti-Muslim ("love the sinner, hate the sin").
It's a Baptist event. Those are still legal, right?
What about some Christian outrage about meetings where Muslims promote "hate speech", and deliver bigotted sermons, reviling jews and christians and just about everybody.
Couldn't do that, oh no, you'd have to start a campaign to close all the mosques, lordy lordy.
Bet there are Christian's always present when the peasants start their five a day hate sermons, in the interests of fairness of course.
Ironic that this meeting was to take place in a town named Christchurch. Why not rename the place
Mohammedmosque next? There is already an Islamberg in the world after all.
So much for free speech-another glorious victory for the forces of darkness.
That's a town which is in serious need of a name change. Herself and I were looking into moving to NZ a few months back, it didn't take long to reject it as a candidate.
Some comments from the article:
[1]"Muslim leaders condemned Mosques and Miracles as "a conference of bigots" "
[2]"Islamic Association president Javed Khan hailed Spreydon's move. "The tone of the conference did not sound right to me." "
[3]"[Khan] said to them `If you want to do something positive, why are there no Muslims invited?"' " [brackets added]
Notice how the comments don't address the issue of whether or not mainstream Islam calls for domination of the world. The "Islamophobia Watch" presentation (right now) also does not dispute that claim. Instead, we see [1] ad hominem, [2] quibbling over the "tone" of the presentation, and then [3] a frank expression of Muslim supremacism in the suggestion that the event could not be positive unless Muslims were present.
In fact, mainstream Islam based on Koran and Sunnah demands that all humans of sound mind who've been exposed to the message of Islam must accept it, otherwise they will be burned and tortured in hell. Muslims are commanded to spread and establish Islam. If non-Muslims try to block or oppose this in any way, Muslims can wage war on them, according to Islamic jurisprudence (e.g., see the Hidayah).
Islam is the only acceptable religion (deen) (3:85).
Islam is a mission to all humankind (34:28, 7:157-158; also Sahih Bukhari, Muhammad said: "I have been sent to all mankind"). According to the Reliance of the Traveller [o8.7(20)], a Muslim who denies that Islam was intended to be the religion for all mankind is guilty of apostasy, and apostates must be executed. The Koran states that anyone who does not think Muhammad will be successful in his mission in the world and in the hereafter should go hang himself (22:15). Islam must conquer and prevail over all other religion (deen), even if non-Muslims hate it (9:32-33; 48:28; 61:9).
Non-Muslims must convert to Islam or else Muslims must subjugate them, or kill them if they do not accept subjugation (9:29, 9:5, 8:39). Muslims can seize the land of those non-Muslims (33:27; also see Sahih Bukhari, Muhammad said "The earth has been made for me," and "The earth belongs to Allah and his Apostle.")
quote: "The move has drawn scorn from some Christians who see it as kowtowing to political correctness and "Muslim outrage"."
The closing of the congress prove more than it could while it was going on. Aside from that it's a complete scandal.
What we really need is - Gay Rights for Muslims!
We are at the dawn of a glorious, delicate, revolutionary moment in the Middle East . This will lead to the obvious progression throughout the Middle East: Freedom for all, Women's Rights, Equal Rights for all minorities and Equal Rights for the HUNDREDS of Millions of GAY MUSLIMS:

These Holy and Devout Muslims must skulk about town, seeking out other gay men and young boys in area madrassahs, clandestine meetings in Islamic prayer groups and after the Friday circuit party at the mosque and must always live IN FEAR of being exposed (and maybe even beheaded) - JUST BECAUSE THEY ARE GAY!
The hundreds of millions of Gay Men in the Muslim world are living under awful conditions of repression and the Homophobia and discrimination that they must endure is unbearable - We must help bring GAY RIGHTS TO ALL MUSLIMS NOW!
This awful injustice demands a new Jihad - the Islamists have Al-Jihad bi-al-Lisan - which means - Jihad of the Tongue, and al-Jihad bi-al-Qalam - Jihad of the Pen and also Al-Jihad bi-al-Mal - the Financial Jihad - this demands al-Jihad bi-al-Homo - THE JIHAD OF THE MUSLIM QUEER!

“I think it's very sad and a bit sinister." Indeed it is.
Impossible George! The thing with Muslims is they flip flop from friendship and acceptance to murderous intolerance in an eye blink. Their religion has no moral bounds when it comes to “solve by extermination.” Maybe gays can sneak their way into power, like many have done in the West, but they will never control the underlying Muslim population, which is tribal and loyal to Islam by nature (see Pakistan, Turkey, and Somalia.)
I, for one, would like to see gays use their power to humble the Islamic world, and in so doing, I hope they humble each other.
Whatever happened to freedom of speech? (Applause to Auckland and Wellington churches for still going ahead - did you notice that? Perhaps appropriate letters, emails and letters to editor in prominent NZ newspapers and church papers would be in order? - any Kiwis reading/ posting here? Write to your bishops/ elders/ chief pastors!).
Mark Durie is a scholar through and through - he has a PhD from a very reputable university.
Sensible people know the difference between 'hate speech' - founded on paranoia and falsehood - and 'rational discussion and criticism'.
No sane person would say that Winston Churchill engaged in 'hate speech' against Nazis, during the 1930s and 1940s. He merely said many true and correct things about them, in a loud clear voice so that other people could hear and receive useful information. If Mark Durie is attending this little Baptist conference, then the folks there will get accurate information about Islam-on-the-ground (Dr Durie lived in Aceh and speaks the language). Nothing wrong with that.
Much of Mr Durie's book "Revelation - Do Muslims and Christians Worship the Same God?" is a clear, rational, step by step comparison of the basic teachings of the two religions, Islam and Christianity, fully referenced from the original texts of both. That's not hate speech. That's scholarship.
Memo to the Christians in New Zealand - please - MORE conferences - Catholics, Anglicans, Orthodox, everybody! Do it again and do it BIGGER. Hire the CATHEDRALS. NZ Catholics - invite Mr Spencer! (And NZ Jews - invite Bat Ye'or!). Kiwis, don't leave it all to the religious non-Muslims - Atheists and Agnostics, hold a conference and invite Ali Sina, Ibn Warraq and Hirsi Ali! Then you'll find out just exactly how many 'peaceful' and 'non-peaceful' Muslims you've got.
Excerpt from the conference blurb: "It will help you consider the Christian response to Islam in today’s society and impart necessary tools to assist you in conveying the message of Jesus in a relevant way. It will also help you value Muslim people more and to reach out with God’s love and not react in fear." There's the rub. This conference would be teaching Christians to break dhimmi rules - to not be afraid of Muslims, and to explain the gospels to them. So if Muslims are pissed off by this, the obvious conclusion is that Muslims want non-Muslim people to fear them...gee, what does that say about Islam, if Muslims feel 'disrespected' unless non-Muslims are cringing and grovelling and don't dare speak of their [non-Muslim] beliefs to Muslims
"And NZ Jews - invite Bat Ye'or..." from post above.
As a non-Jewish Kiwi, I did invite her two years ago when we met in Europe. She graciously declined, for reasons not too hard to imagine. NZ is a long way from most anywhere.
No mention of any of this on Telly-we are HAMSTRUNG[To use a pun] by very PC,Multiculturalist Prime Minister Ms Clarke who endorsed a prayer room for Somalis in her local supermarket.
You may recall student who broke windows of a mosque received jail sentence longer than some rapists here.
Encouraging news is-looks to be an Election NEXT YEAR & Pro American National[=Consevative] John Key has passed Ms Clarke in popularity stakes-looks set to win it.
Tally of Muslims in N.Z remains only about 40,000
although you only need a few Jihad cells to inflict maximum damage...
Despite every negative item about Muslims being suppressed, sanatised or disregarded general Public ARE getting better informed about ROP.
So keep up the good work Robert & JW Posters-Liberals reading Jihad Watch are being CONVERTED-
I should know-used to be one of 'em.
Other things might be at play here, like the considerable trade with the Middle East. Live sheep, dairy products and heaven knows whatever else New Zealand exports, could be at stake. But then again, its not for the church or any church group to meddle in the economic affairs of a country. I could be wrong and the pastor Murray Robertson is just your average dhimmi-coward who is afraid of his own shadow and sees ghosts behind every bush, but it was even more disappointing to see the jewish community of Australia disinvite professor Israeli who warned about Islamic immigration.
Sure enough, we got professor Israeli to speak at private venues, in the end he stayed longer than planned and reached more people, but unfortunately those who came were mostly over 50 types, the young ones are just not interested, which is a real worry.
There is a long battle ahead of us, folks....

Any idea whether the antipode of Mecca (in Polynesia) is a spot on land? If yes, that's a good place to move: since everywhere faces Mecca, Muslims can't exactly pray, since their backs will face the Qibla as well, while whenever they relieve themselves,.....
Today, on the news, I heard that the Somali immigrants in NE were being denied 3 prayer breaks the day, and KS governor invited them to move to KS. NE governor responded by saying that he'd pay for their move.
So you might want to consider Omaha or Lincoln.
Following is a letter I mailed to the Investigate Magazine here in NZ. Unfortunately it wasn't published, but I commend Investigate for speaking straight about Islamic issues.
The Editor
Investigate Magazine.
Dear Ian [Wishart],
Congratulations Investigate on your lead article in the March 07 issue: ‘Helen [Prime Minister of NZ] wears the hijab while preachers of hate slip into NZ’.
However, in one way it perpetuates a fundamental myth regarding Islam. You talk of ‘moderate’ and ‘extremist’ Muslims as though these are valid descriptions. I would like to suggest that the terms are neither helpful nor accurate and better and more accurate ones are ‘consistent’ and ‘inconsistent’. And it is the Orthodox Wahhabi’s who are the consistent ones according to the Koran and the Hadith’s, the authoritative example of Mohammed, and 1400 years of Islamic history.
For Muslims of all stripes, Mohammed is the perfect example for Muslims to follow. What he commanded, permitted, or did, binds all Muslims as he was Allah’s chosen vehicle for communicating the Koran – claimed to be an eternal book existing with Allah in heaven – to mankind. No retreat from such a position can be tolerated by Muslims because to do so is apostasy, which is punishable by death. There is only an entrance door to Islam. There is no exit from it.
So…because Mohammed married one of his many wives - Aisha - when she was six years old and consummated the marriage when she was nine (he was over fifty), this is an example of something valid for all Muslim males. Because he condoned and participated in the beheading on one day of 600 to 900 Jewish men of the Qurayzah tribe, and the taking of their women and children as slaves, then that is an authoritative example of what good Muslim men should do if they have the opportunity. The last 1400 years is replete with such opportunities. (Read ‘The Legacy of Jihad: Islamic Holy War and the Fate of Non-Muslims’, edited by Andrew Bostrom to get an insight into this.) Because Mohammed condoned lying to aid the assassination of one of his opponents – a poet aged about a hundred years old who wrote poetry against him - we now have the doctrine of ‘taqiyya’ – deceit, which justifies lying to further the Islamic cause. (Can any Muslim in the West be trusted when they pronounce about Islam?)
You quote Adullah Drury, a New Zealand Muslim who while you did not identify him as a ‘moderate’, implied he was such. Drury, billed as a historian by the Dominion Post, had an article in that paper on the 22nd December 06, headed ‘A history of mutual respect’. In it he argued that the history of Islamic Jewish relations down through the years was, as the heading stated, one of mutual respect. His justification for such an astounding claim was first that, ‘The Prophet Mohammed, the ultimate role model for all Muslims, had a Jewish wife, Safiyah bint Huyai bin Akhtab. Her father was a former chief of the Banu Nadir, a distinguished Jewish tribe that had settled in central Arabia and adopted the Arabic language’, and second that ‘Islamic law specifically forbids persecution or harassment of either Jews or Christians’.
This article of Drury’s is a classic case of taqiyya. What he does not tell readers is that Safiyah’s father had been beheaded by Mohammed along with the men of the Qurayzah tribe. Then when Mohammed fought against Khaybar some time later, her husband Kinana (a leader in Khaybar) was tortured and beheaded for not telling where the tribe’s treasure was. The very same day her husband was tortured and killed, she was taken prisoner and married to and laid by Mohammed! So much for mutual respect! (Read about it in ‘The Truth about Mohammed’ by Robert Spencer.)
Nor does he tell readers that the Koran and Hadith’s have both peaceful and kind statements about Jews and Christians, as well as statements that call for their death and destruction. Drury does not tell readers that the earlier kind statements have been abrogated by the later harsh ones, and thus no long apply.
Can I recommend an excellent DVD just released entitled ‘Islam: What the West needs to know.’ It is very sobering stuff but if we are to back up from the suicidal path we are on, we need to be up to speed on what we face and stop kidding ourselves.
'Spreydon Baptist senior pastor Murray Robertson said sponsor pressure had triggered the decision. "A number of the people who support our community work said they weren't comfortable with the position. Part of their brief is to not support groups that are intolerant. We had no control over the content of the conference and we felt we were taking a whole bunch of hits for something we had nothing to do with.'
Robertson has an empire to protect and so has done so. My analysis of churches in NZ is that very few, when it come to the crunch, will stand for truth. Most will opt for the unity of the cummunity rather than the truth on which the community is supposed to be founded.
I was under the impression that the Son of Man had been referring to turning one's facial cheek.
Who knew?
Helen Clark {NZ PM - Labour) or John Key (leader of the National Party) - much the same. Both parties block voted this week to criminalise parents who correct their children - against the wishes of 80-90% of the country! The Muslims aren't the only ones who are insane!!! NZ is led by a bunch of idiots.
Now available online from Investigate Magazine, a March 2007 article on the visits to NZ of various Islamic radicals in recent times and their relationships with "moderates":

Sure enough, we got professor Israeli to speak at private venues, in the end he stayed longer than planned and reached more people, but unfortunately those who came were mostly over 50 types, the young ones are just not interested, which is a real worry.
Oi! Sheikh, as a 40yo, I resemble that remark! I did get to see Prof Israeli when he was out here, and he is marvellous.
He definitely knows his stuff.
The Mosques and Miracles conference is here in Melbournistan next weekend. Info here.
On the friday evening, there is a free session which I will be attending with friends who have booked for the whole conference. They are a jewish and an atheist lady!
If you haven't read the book by Pastor Robinson on which this conference is based, I can't recommend it highly enough. It is well-written and has a lot of detail about islam that is non-judgmental. At least, I found it so. I'm sure that muslims would disagree with me.
And a final note on the young people of today.
Those in their twenties and thirties do seem to have missed the boat and are stuck in myspace, but I do believe if we can speak more to the teenagers of today, we'll find that they are a bit more switched on than first thought.
That's what I've found, anyway.

To L Drummond - to reach teenagers today - we need the graphic novel/ comic format. (My 17 year old son has been reading Spiegelman's compelling 'Maus', a Shoah survivor story).
'300' started life as a graphic novel.
Please...is anybody out there who can use graphic novel or webzine to tell the stories of THE FOURTEEN-HUNDRED-YEAR WAR - from the POV of Eastern and Western non-Muslims? Don't embellish - stick to the facts which are dramatic enough. Volume 1 = Spencer on Mohammed, in graphic novel form, rated M. And in each volume include the Ninth Surah and a few relevant hadith.
But - Poitiers/ Tours, and Charles Martel. What a story! Use the original Frankish chronicler's own words.
The Fall of Constantinople after 800 years of a long, bitter losing battle - stark tragedy (a step-by-step object lesson on all the things NOT to do, once you are facing jihad).
The liberation of Spain - but be ruthlessly honest about the tragic folly of throwing out the Jews along with the Muslims (the irony - many of those Sephardi ended up going to Israel, laying foundations for all the aliyah that followed and the liberation of eretz Israel).
The siege of Malta in 1565 - magnificent stuff.
The Battle of Lepanto.
Vienna 1529; then Vienna 1683 - the glorious charge of the winged hussars.
The newborn USA tackling the Barbary Pirates.
The Liberation of Greece from the Turks (Lord Byron the poet, 19C equivalent of a pop star, scandals and all, got involved).
The charge of the Australian Light Horse in the taking of Beersheba, which opened Allenby's road to Jerusalem and Damascus and the end of the Ottoman Empire in the Holy Land.
The Six Day War and the taking back of Jerusalem by the Jews.
There must be great stories from the Eastern front, just waiting to be told - e.g. the Portuguese teaming up with the Thais to restrain Islam in that neighbourhood in the 16C. (Naipaul and Ram Lal's books?).
The centuries-long heroic resistance of the Ethiopian Christians in their mountain citadel.
The Israeli rescue of the Entebbe hostages (to hell with 'Palestinianism' - let's tell the real stories of Israel's sixty-year self-defence, backs to the wall, fingernails and toenails clinging to the Holy Land, their very existence riding on the outcome of every battle).
Constant theme should be - united we stand, divided we fall; and - don't swallow Muslim lies and bribes; come down like a ton of bricks on terror tactics and bullying; DON'T PAY JIZYA; DON'T TRADE OR MAKE TREATIES WITH MUSLIMS; DON'T GET INVOLVED IN INTRA-UMMAH INFIGHTING; because every single time where a society has been defeated, those factors were in play.
Catholics, Orthodox, Protestants - we need modern 'saints' lives', comic-style booklets with vivid illustrations, telling the story of Muslim-background converts to Christianity, including the long and honourable roll of Muslim-background Christians who were almost immediately martyred for their newfound faith. The Adventures of Samuel Zwemer within the Empire of Islam. The Epic Journey of Rabban Sawma...(= Great Missed Opportunity 1001). The stories of European slaves, as told in White Gold - pick one and tell it. Pick just one 'survival story' from a Sudanese jihad survivor, man or woman, and tell it.
The documented facts - such as one finds in Bat Ye'or's appendices - are stark, high drama. And what was lost in every defeat, every Muslim conquest, should be made heartbreakingly clear - as also what was made possible by every victory, even by the 150 year stand of the Crusader kingdoms or the long resistance of Byzantium.
I can see how this could be - but I don't know the right people. Does anybody out there have contacts in the graphic novel/ comic-book scene/ webzine world, who are 'clued up' about the Jihad? Hell - let's write to the guy who invented and drew '300'!
KAOSKTRL,
What's in a name? Christchurch is named after the city in England and is a reflection of the ancestry of the mainly English settlers who made their home on the Canterbury Plains (yes, another Englsh name) starting in about 1870 with the arrival of the First Four Ships (and yes, I am a direct descendant of one of the young men who sailed from England on one of those ships).
If you had, on the other hand, complained about the level of air pollution or the drearily provincial pace of life, perhaps I would have thought your rejection of Christchurch as a suitable place to reside reasonable. As it is, you just sound bigoted. And really, it's not up to you to decide what the city is named anyway.
I think there are more important issues in life, don't you?
