This is all high-sounding and noble, until you remember that Sharia is enshrined in both the Iraqi and Afghan constitutions.
And the reality on the ground is that these states "respect the rights of their people" except non-Muslims.
"Bush Says Wars in Iraq, Afghanistan Are Promoting Freedom," by Holly Rosenkrantz for Bloomberg:
May 26 (Bloomberg) -- President George W. Bush, in a Memorial Day weekend radio address, said the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan are aimed at promoting in those countries the freedom people enjoy in the U.S.``Our troops are helping them build democracies that respect the rights of their people, uphold the rule of law and fight extremists alongside America in the war on terror,'' Bush said....
Congress this week approved almost $100 billion for U.S. military operations in Iraq and Afghanistan through Sept. 30. The package, stripped of a troop-withdrawal timeline Democrats sought and Bush opposed, handed the president a victory in the continuing debate over war policy.
How long must we, the innocent American public, endure the hell of his hallucinations?
Heard Georgie Boy used to be on the Booze and Loco Weed. What's he on now....
Morgane - nothing - what we are seeing are the results of the residual damage.
"Our troops are helping them build democracies that respect the rights of their people, uphold the rule of law and fight extremists alongside America in the war on terror"
--G.W. Bush
. . . and dying to do this.
Is it worth it? Does Bush actually expect the "democracies" of Iraq and Afghanistan--"Islamic democracies"--to "fight extremists alongside America in the war on terror?"
These "Islamic democracies" will certainly "uphold the rule of law," as Bush promises--after all, the law in both "Islamic democracies" is sharia.
Our troops exist to defend our homeland--which is being silently (and not-so-silently) invaded by Islam, not to shore up Islamic countries that when all is said and done, hate our guts and would like nothing better than to see Islam reign supreme in the United States.
Simple-minded? Or seeing things behind and beyond what we perceive? Or both?
How many of us want to see our troops dead or maimed to try and make "democratic" allies out of Iraq and Afghanistan--(like the allies we have in Pakistan and Saudi, perhaps?)
Not one American life is worth sacrificing to bring schools, sewers, hospitals, etc. or as Hugh would have it, light (enlightenment)to the benighted Islamic nations.
Bush lives in a land where 99.9% of the population is clueless about Islam, sharia and taqiyya.
He might just get away with it.
Just like Willie Clinton got away with bombing the Christian Serbs to make Kosovo Islamic:
http://sheikyermami.com/2007/05/26/clinton-statue-in-kosovo/
This man is seriously out of touch with reality, and incompetent to boot. It's times like this when I wish we had a parilamentary system where a no-confidence vote by, say, 75% of the Congress would force the president to resign. But who would take his place? Cheney? That's hardly an improvement. I'm afraid to say it, but I think bush is testing this country as the Nazis, the Japanese imperialists, and the Soviets never did. His failure to secure our borders, failure to reduce our dependence on middle east oil, and failure in the conduct of the Iraq war are criminal. Just criminal.
Bush is totally delusional. We really have to forget about democracy and the rule of law.
Let's follow Franklin Roosevelt's advice on this subject. When asked about Samoza, he said "He's a bastard but he's our bastard!" That is the kind of thinking that is needed particularly in Iraq.
Who the hell talks about human rights and grand ideas? Guys like Jimmy Carter! A failure as a President and as a human being!
Let's forget about human rights! Screw it! Its an Islamic country and its never going to happen. Just find the needed bastard to keep Al Qaeda and Iran out of there! Really, we need a guy like Saddam Hussein, except one whose not our enemy!
"Our troops are helping them build democracies that respect the rights of their people, uphold the rule of law and fight extremists alongside America in the war on terror,'' Bush said...."
I suppose Bush can't say anything else. We've got our foot in a tar pit and can't pull free. Bush knows this, but he's invested so much in the fiction that Muslims are yearning for democracy and freedom, that he can't do anything but repeat the same old mantras that got us into this mess.
Wonderful posts to a truly depressing story.
It's definitely one for the "you couldn't make it up" files.
And to think there are posters here who think it's "all worth it"
Giving your life for a koran based Constitution
A Dhimmi's dream for sure
Global Jihad Theory:
"Democracy" got Hamas elected, Sharia in Iraq and Afghanistan, and a new pipline for Iraqi oil to Iran. It seems that we need a more precise definition of the problem before we try and solve it. Here's an equation to express it:
[Global Jihad] = A*(Jihad ideology) + B*(Oil $)
where A + B = 1, expressing the fractional weight of each factor on the right hand side.
This means that if we want to effectively make Global Jihad = 0, we need to reduce the jihad ideology via educational means or by excluding jihadis, and/or, we need to deprive the jihadis of oil money. No money, no jihad. No jihad ideology, no jihad. No jihadis, no jihad. Q.E.D.
George Bush will be known to historians as the President who tried to spread democracy around the world and ended up losing it at home. I sent him $25 and voted for him twice, but think he’s lost it.
Our national interest is in the oil, not in improving the quality of life for moms and dads in the Middle East. The Muslims do not deserve the oil and someone will take it from them in the next twenty five years. A responsible President would be making sure that that someone was us.
My mistake. I'd posted
"c) Here's the fate of NON muslims in Iraq
http://www.jihadwatch.org/dhimmiwatch/archives/010722.php
That was of course about the plight of NON muslims in Afghanistan
Here's the one about Iraq

Happy reading Meekee. Don't forget to go "WOOO WOOO , BUSH ROCKS" at the end.
That should have been on the Bush
"Our troops are helping them build democracies that respect the rights of their people, uphold the rule of law and fight extremists alongside America in the war on terror" comment thread.
My mistake AGAIN....and it's still the morning.
Carry on as you were please...cough
And i've posted on the WROND THREAD
I'm on a roll
I owe yankee doodle an apology. he can bash bush all he wants to now. lol
George Bush. Liar? Idiot? Deluded Wilsonian? Deluded Texas good ole boy? Saudi double agent?
We should not be allowing our soldiers to die and be maimed for an Islamic constitution. January 20, 2009 cannot get here fast enough.
There is a concensus of Bush bashing here. Is there no one to defend Bush?
Well dont expect me to do it, I dont like him either, but I dont hate him.
May 26 (Bloomberg) -- President George W. Bush, in a Memorial Day weekend radio address, said the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan are aimed at promoting in those countries the freedom people enjoy in the U.S.
...Freedom the people enjoy in the US????? A pipe dream, and not an oil pipe either. Every leader in the M.I. including, terrorist leaders, are playing Bush for a sucker...I wonder why that Is?
An old Islamic proverb...'give the sucker a chance to be a sucker', applies perfectly to Bush.
The only thing worse than Bush in gov, is the traitorous, treasonous, elitist, Demo/liberals.
These people are every bit as dangerous to the US as is Al-Qaeda, and some are running (shudder) for president. I will say it again...these degenerates , especially Hairy Reed, have directly caused the increase of American deaths this month.
I dont know how many, but I bet it is not zero.
One is too many...This is not acceptable, but instead of arresting anyone, they get taken to lunch in Syria...grrrrr...
"Our national interest is in the oil, not in improving the quality of life for moms and dads in the Middle East. The Muslims do not deserve the oil and someone will take it from them in the next twenty five years. A responsible President would be making sure that that someone was us."
pez,
Agreed! In fact, I've always believed that we should bring the old empires back. Carve up the Middle East and North Africa between Russia, the U.S., Britain and France.
The people in that region, and many other regions of the world, never enjoyed better, more honest government, than under the old imperial powers.
Africa hasn't progressed one inch since the old colonial powers left. Sub Saharian Africa is nothing but one big city dump, ruled by bossmen who couldn't care less about the starvation and desease ravaging their people, and whose only concern is how much money they can stuff in Swiss banks.
The only way that sanity and civilizied behavior will prevail in the Muslim countries of the Middle East is if they are governed by an enlightend power weilding an iron rod.
We are not obligated to allow ourselves to be threatened with nuclear destruction by a bunch of Muslim clerics who believe that obliterating the world is a religious obligation.
The age of the great Empires were not, as some would have us believe, the bad old days. These are the bad old days.
I know this is heresy in todays politically correct world, but it's also reality.
"Democracy" is meaningless without installing a secular Bill of rights guaranteeing freedom of thought as well as freedom from theocratic control.
Otherwise it is Sharia mob rule.
Is that what we went into Afghanistan and Iraq to establish?
Islamic states?
I've emailed Mr. Bush many times asking about this.
The reply:
.autorespond.
From a president on autopilot.
Building stronger terror states, one blunder at a time.
"Building stronger terror states, one blunder at a time."
lol perfect
Look, I don't hate the guy. I don't agree with his thinking here but I see Al Qaeda, Bin Laden, Nasrallah, Ahmendijahd as the enemy, not GWB. What I see in Bush is a guy who doesn't know what he needs to accomplish in Iraq. He just isn't a good leader.
We can't really care about the quality of lives or Iraqis. What we need to care about now is having something of a pro-American govt there. And, that means finding a bastard who is dependent on us for staying in power but won't need much of our presence to stay in power there. Maybe its too late to do that.
This stuff of free elections and a constitution in Iraq were delusional thoughts.
sheik yer booty:
I would argue that they weren't "failures" at all. That implies he was trying.
He fights vigorously against secure borders, having even publicly and preemptively called Patriots who took it upon themselves to act, "vigilantes."
Domestic energy independence should have been made a National Security priority after 9/11. I'm paying 150% MORE per gallon since 9/11.
The "war" in Iraq had no plan and has no plan. "Stay the Course" and the super-sized "Stay the Course," a.k.a "The Surge," is not insanity but Evil.
Add in the amnesty for illegals, including all jihadis, and you have a man clearly aiming to destroy this nation, not save it.
Trying and failing is one thing, acting against the American people who scream for the "war" to end, secure borders, no amnesty, and set us on a course of energy independence from muslims who wish us dead, is quite another.
What else is there to say...
I grow so tired of Bush and really everytime he speaks depression hits me like a rock. I don't get mad anymore but just sick. Is this what our nation has to offer? Is this the best we can do?
I am a Republican and know the left wing is wrong yet I can't even get angry at them anymore. The political war cries of "it's the left wings fault" just don't cut it anymore. Yes they are beyond stupid but it is hard to chuck rocks at folks when our own house is made of glass. They have plenty of faults but so do conservatives.
It is our (conservatives) fault we have allowed a man like Bush to hijack what once was a great party. Then we allowed him to hijack the nation. It is like Nero fiddling while Rome burns.
Really why should I rally around a party that allowes such men to lead? Unless something changes quick the GOP is lost. Perhaps the two-party system is doomed or maybe we need a straight vote on the top 5 canidates no matter what party they come from to get the big-wigs out of it and let the people choose.
I must say I just don't know anymore. I know one thing however we have get control of this run away train called the political elite and at this point I don't care what party they come from.
The Dick Cheney Speech was worse however at West Point
http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2007/05/20070526-1.html
The quote...
"I give you this assurance on behalf of the President. You soldier for him, and he will soldier for you."
Makes me sick. They soldier on for the nation not for you. They are not your "praetorian guard" or private plaything. That sad part is this not joke because those two fools really think this way.
Maybe they should worry about getting better body armour for the troops and stop wasting their time trying to pay-war us to death.
pay-war = psy-war
Although pay-war is just as good after furthur thought. We are paying for this stupidity but don't worry because our leader will soldier own.
Cheney? The one who left "public service" for what is demurely called by such people "the private sector" in order to make "real money" (because you see, they need a $100 million dollars because they have one, or perhaps, two, children in college)? The one whose wife wrote that trash under a pseudonym and who pretends to be interested in keeping up cultural standards? The one who has given a job to one of his daughters in that "democratization project" despite her knowing nothing about Islam, or about Iraq?
Is that the Cheney you mean? The one who has shown himself just about as grasping and greedy as Hillary and Bill Clinton (google "Vinod Gupta" and "Hillary Clinton" for more, and wallow in your rage)?
Our leaders. Our inheritors from the Framers: Washington, Franklin, Adams, Jefferson, Madison, Munroe. Our not really leaders but people "taking a leadership role." Children of privilege, or those who seize such privilege for themselves, which explains their grasping ambition, their nearly-maniacal attempt to grab -- see the Clintons, see Hillary Clinton as Lady Macbeth -- money, fame, power, power and fame that then translate into money, just as much as they can, just as fast as they can.
And do they hate it when, as with the disgusting tale of the Clintons and Vinod Gupta (and en passant, the $40 million Bill Clinton has pocketed over the past few years, and the moneys not only given directly, but -- and this is not in the story -- the amounts given for the "Bill Clinton this" and the "Hillary Clinton that" from the Gupta-controlled business, itself an unseemly enterprise given the information it packages and sells to predators.
Is that it? Are these the kind of people whom we will be left to choose from? At this point, with the menace of Islam, and of global warming, and a crazily disoriented immigration policy, it simply can't be. It must not be.
Hugh
I'm missing something. What's wrong with Lynne Cheney? I always thought her a class act, and I haven't seen any inane statements about Islam from her - at least so far. What trash did she write under what pseudonym?
Of course, there was a time I also thought that about Dinesh D'Souza.
Why Hugh...Come, come now. This is the American Dream. This is the American Dream. This is the system we have created for ourselves.
Why did the Republican Party thrust themselves behind GWB in 1998-1999? 1.) He was a good Christian
2.) He had than winning characteristic known as "name recognition" because of who his daddy was.
Hell of a way to pick your champion...errr... Presidential Candidate of the United States of America, isn't it now?
Good Job, ye Grand Ole' Party, Fantastic Job!!!!

As long as there is a drop of oil left for our corporations and their voting puppets in Washington.
Apparently to THEM our children are worth sacrificing to these islamic devils so that THEY can enjoy fat wallets, big cars, mansions, vacations homes and swimming pools.
Being a Citizen of the United Kingdom and the World, and being as the
President of the United States is the leader of the Western World the
onis is on the United States to choose a leader who is capable of
leading, this does not mean one who has the most money to spend on
getting elected or the one connected to the most powerful American
families, but the one who is capable of making the difficult
decisions that are necessary and who has the ability to lead and
has no assocations with the Saudi's or indeed the Skull and Bones
or any other secret society.
My plea to the Great American People is please chose wisely or we
may be toast in the coming decade.
