Is it worth it? Does Bush actually expect the "democracies" of Iraq and Afghanistan--"Islamic democracies"--to "fight extremists alongside America in the war on terror?"

These "Islamic democracies" will certainly "uphold the rule of law," as Bush promises--after all, the law in both "Islamic democracies" is sharia.

Our troops exist to defend our homeland--which is being silently (and not-so-silently) invaded by Islam, not to shore up Islamic countries that when all is said and done, hate our guts and would like nothing better than to see Islam reign supreme in the United States.

Simple-minded? Or seeing things behind and beyond what we perceive? Or both?

How many of us want to see our troops dead or maimed to try and make "democratic" allies out of Iraq and Afghanistan--(like the allies we have in Pakistan and Saudi, perhaps?)

Not one American life is worth sacrificing to bring schools, sewers, hospitals, etc. or as Hugh would have it, light (enlightenment)to the benighted Islamic nations.

Bush lives in a land where 99.9% of the population is clueless about Islam, sharia and taqiyya.

He might just get away with it.

This man is seriously out of touch with reality, and incompetent to boot. It's times like this when I wish we had a parilamentary system where a no-confidence vote by, say, 75% of the Congress would force the president to resign. But who would take his place? Cheney? That's hardly an improvement. I'm afraid to say it, but I think bush is testing this country as the Nazis, the Japanese imperialists, and the Soviets never did. His failure to secure our borders, failure to reduce our dependence on middle east oil, and failure in the conduct of the Iraq war are criminal. Just criminal.

Bush is totally delusional. We really have to forget about democracy and the rule of law.

Let's follow Franklin Roosevelt's advice on this subject. When asked about Samoza, he said "He's a bastard but he's our bastard!" That is the kind of thinking that is needed particularly in Iraq.

Who the hell talks about human rights and grand ideas? Guys like Jimmy Carter! A failure as a President and as a human being!

Agreed! In fact, I've always believed that we should bring the old empires back. Carve up the Middle East and North Africa between Russia, the U.S., Britain and France.

The people in that region, and many other regions of the world, never enjoyed better, more honest government, than under the old imperial powers.

Africa hasn't progressed one inch since the old colonial powers left. Sub Saharian Africa is nothing but one big city dump, ruled by bossmen who couldn't care less about the starvation and desease ravaging their people, and whose only concern is how much money they can stuff in Swiss banks.

The only way that sanity and civilizied behavior will prevail in the Muslim countries of the Middle East is if they are governed by an enlightend power weilding an iron rod.

We are not obligated to allow ourselves to be threatened with nuclear destruction by a bunch of Muslim clerics who believe that obliterating the world is a religious obligation.

The age of the great Empires were not, as some would have us believe, the bad old days. These are the bad old days.

Look, I don't hate the guy. I don't agree with his thinking here but I see Al Qaeda, Bin Laden, Nasrallah, Ahmendijahd as the enemy, not GWB. What I see in Bush is a guy who doesn't know what he needs to accomplish in Iraq. He just isn't a good leader.

We can't really care about the quality of lives or Iraqis. What we need to care about now is having something of a pro-American govt there. And, that means finding a bastard who is dependent on us for staying in power but won't need much of our presence to stay in power there. Maybe its too late to do that.

The "war" in Iraq had no plan and has no plan. "Stay the Course" and the super-sized "Stay the Course," a.k.a "The Surge," is not insanity but Evil.

Add in the amnesty for illegals, including all jihadis, and you have a man clearly aiming to destroy this nation, not save it.

I grow so tired of Bush and really everytime he speaks depression hits me like a rock. I don't get mad anymore but just sick. Is this what our nation has to offer? Is this the best we can do?

I am a Republican and know the left wing is wrong yet I can't even get angry at them anymore. The political war cries of "it's the left wings fault" just don't cut it anymore. Yes they are beyond stupid but it is hard to chuck rocks at folks when our own house is made of glass. They have plenty of faults but so do conservatives.

It is our (conservatives) fault we have allowed a man like Bush to hijack what once was a great party. Then we allowed him to hijack the nation. It is like Nero fiddling while Rome burns.

Really why should I rally around a party that allowes such men to lead? Unless something changes quick the GOP is lost. Perhaps the two-party system is doomed or maybe we need a straight vote on the top 5 canidates no matter what party they come from to get the big-wigs out of it and let the people choose.

As long as there is a drop of oil left for our corporations and their voting puppets in Washington.

Apparently to THEM our children are worth sacrificing to these islamic devils so that THEY can enjoy fat wallets, big cars, mansions, vacations homes and swimming pools.

President of the United States is the leader of the Western World the
onis is on the United States to choose a leader who is capable of
leading, this does not mean one who has the most money to spend on
getting elected or the one connected to the most powerful American
families, but the one who is capable of making the difficult
