Islamabad (AsiaNews) – A draft bill adopted in first reading by Pakistan’s National Assembly is now before a standing committee. Tabled by a six-party politico-religious alliance, the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal or MMA, the Apostasy Act 2006 which the government sent to the committee would impose the death penalty on Muslim men and life in prison on Muslim women in case they leave Islam. It would also force them to forfeit their property and lose legal custody of children.During the same session, lawmakers rejected another draft bill moved by minority MNA Bhandara which sought to amend the existing blasphemy law....
Should the bill become law anyone who leaves Islam for another religion can be sentenced to death (if male) or life in prison ‘until repentance occurs’ (if female).
Section 4 of the bill says that the offender’s own confession in court or the testimony by at least two adults is sufficient grounds for conviction in apostasy cases. Testimony by non Muslims is not however admissible in certain Pakistani courts.
Section 5 stipulates that the ‘offender’ must be granted 3 to 30 days to recant the conversion and return to Islam. But even in cases where the person returns to Islam judges can impose two-year sentences as punishment for the original ‘crime’. The accused can convert and reconvert up to three times before the death sentence becomes automatic.
Under Section 8 apostates forfeit all their properties which are awarded only to their Muslim relatives. Section 9 says that they also lose custody to any minor in their care and guardianship, including their biological children.

Pardon me for repeating myself..The above letter is why I mistrust any numbers/percentages that Islamic countries put out or Muslim organizations. Quite simply, their numbers of a billion-plus world wide membership figures cannot be accurate. Why? Three reasons: They over-inflate the number of Muslims in their countries and deflate the number of non-Muslims in 'Islamic' countries. In non-Muslim countries, such as the USA, they inflate their membership numbers outrageously..I think their PR people put Muslim members at 8 million, when serious census figures put their numbers closer to 2 million. Lastly, if you belong to a religion who legally and socially threatens you with torture, jail and death if you leave that religion, then all membership numbers are suspect.

They are going for the Islamic Jugular, they see it as a win win situation. If they win muslims in Denmark would have to reassess there attitude to religion and state. It might even give our political Dimmis a bit more Backbone when they realize that if little Denmark can stop Islam in its track perhaps we can do the same. If they lose they also win as this case will get lots of coverage in the media and the pissed off Danes will get a very effective lesson in what is in store for them if islam gets its way. They deserve our support so if you have the odd dollar or Euro to spare after paying the exorbitant petrol prices to pay for the jihad please send it. So Pakistan is well on its way to instituting sharia. They have outlawed music in Waziristan, forced conversions to Islam, and now are attempting to (officially) sanction the death penalty for apostates.
But we have to keep supporting Musharraf, because otherwise we'll get a "real" radical government in Pakistan. We wouldn't want those nuclear weapons to fall into the hands of the "radicals", right?
What would it take for us to realize that they are in the hands of the "radicals"? What would it take for us to realize that Pakistan is not our staunch ally?

Then India should adopt an identical law that requires all converts TO ISLAM to forfeit all their properties which are awarded only to their Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist, or Christian relatives and that converts to Islam also lose custody to any minor in their care and guardianship, including their biological children.
Everytime they impose Sharia on non-Muslims anywhere, we should impose the same restrictions back on them.

My question: among native arabic speakers, and among muslims, are Christianity, Judaism, Hinduism, Buddhism, or any other Religions, referred to as "deen", or are there other arabic words which are used instead?
i.e. is only islam described by "deen"? Or not?
Can anyone enlighten me? Thanks.

The US Census Bureau is too politically correct to ask respondents about religion.
What is asked in surveys are questions about "National Origin" (answer chice is basically Hispanic/Latino or Not Hispanic/Latino), about "Race" (answer choices: white; black/african-american; asian/Pacific Islander; Native American (Indian); other Asian...etc. )and "How do you describe yourself" ...i.e. ethnic background fill in such as Italian, Norwegian, Dominican, German, English, etc.
Estimates for sizes of religious groups in the US come from other sources than the US Census Bureau. (Not that I see islam as a religion -- its far more a political ideology; but in general discourse in the US, islam is described, in error, as a religion)
I understand that stealing your relative's property by falsely accusing them of apostasy (or your relative's or your neighbour's property, by falsely accusing them of blasphemy) is already happening wholesale.
It's merely the application, within the ummah, of the principle that applies outside it in relations with Unbelievers - that is, the Unbeliever offends/ blasphemes Islam by refusing the Call, by criticising/ obstructing Islam, but also simply by possessing Good Things which Muslims do not have (since Unbelievers are not supposed to have anything bigger, better or nicer than Muslims have), and therefore, it is the Muslim's right to punish them and take the booty.
So: envying one's brother, or one's neighbour, one easily persuades oneself that this person is a 'bad Muslim' - or a 'blasphemer' breaking the dhimma by insulting Islam ...and then one can take his or her property with a clear conscience. Nice. What a lovely religion.
The Bible recounts a story of someone trying a similar tactic, in the story of Naboth's Vineyard - but the God of Israel, unlike Allah, takes a VERY dim view of such manoeuvrings, and the King and Queen who tried it Get Theirs and meet a Bad End.

This word is used exclusively for islam. Other religions are referred to as "jahiliya", "kufr", "haram" and "butparasti". The word "butparast" (literal translation "idol-worshipper" is used to describe us of the other faiths. The word "jahil" (of the jahilliya) is also used.
