A local husband and his wife have been arrested by the Palestinian Authority police on charges of selling their two daughters to young men.The two girls, aged 12 and 13, were sold for 2,700 Jordanian dinars [approximately NIS 15,000] and NIS 7,000, said Col. Issa Hijo, commander of the Ramallah District Police Force.
He said the two men who bought the girls were brothers aged 23 and 25 and that they had been arrested on charges of raping minors.
"What is astonishing about this case is the fact that the two girls were sold with the approval of their mother and the parents of the two men," Hijo said. "This incident takes us back to the period of slavery. What is even more shocking is the fact that the two men's mother argued that this was an accepted custom."

Slavery is alive and well in islam. Saudi Arabians said they would stop it - but my last reading on the subject says they sort of disregard the agreement they made in the 1960s because it is too inconvenient for them. Telling us one thing and doing another is very common for Arabs.

Virtually all muslims in the world are descendents of those poor people, who were horribly treated by muslim invaders. Islam not only enslaved those people in body but also in spirit and mind.
Islam and those who convert to it, effectively become slaves. Islam = submission = subjugation, is not coincidence. Wherever Islam dominates, slothful attitudes start to dominate. Free thinking stops, and the people become mere cogs, almost children, and dependent on the cleric on matters of any substance. Muslims are thus the first victims in this institution of slavery. I would therefore term Islam as the "religion of institutionalised slavery". Churchill recognised this a long time ago. It is no surprise that Muslim countries are intellectual deserts.
And just like a runaway slave was hunted down and punished, or even hanged, Muslims are cannot leave Islam for fear of the same punishment.

I agree with exsgtbrown completely. This type of perverted behaviour can occur in every society. In fact, this article shows that JW/DW is balanced. After all, the PA did arrest and charge the perpetrators of this crime. That probably would not have been the case in Saudi Arabia, Sudan, or parts of Pakistan.
Kudos to Ramallah Police Col. Issa Hijo for his intervention. His name could be Muslim or Christian, but whatever his background, he should be honoured for saving these two children.

Hijo -- or Senor Fulano de Tal, or Hijo de Tal, son of someone or something (from somewhere in this neighborhood comes the word "hidalgo"). What could that something be? Aren't the parents -- or at least the father -- of the two girls, aren't the two men who bought the two girls, isn't Issa Hijo himself, just possibly (the first name suggests a possible islamochristian otherwise), aren't they all Hijos de Allah, Sons of Allah, as the late Oriana Fallaci liked to call them?

After looking into Issa Hijo's background, he is a Catholic but definitely NOT an isalmochristian. He is a professional police officer who has served honourably as Bethlehem chief of police and now as a colonel over police units operating across Judea and Samaria. He did his duty regardless of what government was in control, serving under the Israelis and now under the PA. According to a report in Ha''aretz on 9/23/2006, Palestinian police units under Hijo's command exchanged fire in a battle with Islamic militants, successfully protecting a Catholic Church that was under attack in Nablus. He has been decorated by both Israel and the PA and is a target of Hamas for removal, even being physically attacked on several occasions.
Throughout the world, marriages between 13-year-old girls and 23-year-old men is not uncommon. My own grandmother was thirteen when she got married. In the state that I live in, the legal marriage age for a girl was 14 until last year when the legislature raised it to 16 years old. What is so evil in the Palestinian case above, is that these girls were sold to be raped. This is an unacceptable evil in any society or culture.
Now that these poor children are used meats, (to paraphrase Naseem) will they be returned to their parents where the girls will both suffer an 'honor killing' at the hands of their male relatives? Given the sick, twisted logic of Muslims, I fear this is a real possibility for two true victims of Islam.
I pray that Police Chief Issa Hijo has a long, productive career. It is a small comfort to know that everyone in the PA is not insane and that some people recognize the difference between good and evil. May he live a long life and die peacefully in bed.

The assault took place late Tuesday night when a group of police officers brought one of their colleagues to the hospital.
