ISLAMABAD, Pakistan - Militants opened fire Monday on a group of U.S., Afghan and Pakistani military officials meeting near the Afghan border, killing one American and a Pakistani soldier, the Pakistani army spokesman said.
Maj. Gen. Waheed Arshad said unidentified "miscreants" — a word usually used by Pakistani officials to describe Islamic militants — fired at the convoy carrying military officials who attended a meeting in the northwestern town of Teri Mangal.
How did those "miscreants" know when and where to fire, and at whom?
"Efforts are being made to determine from where the firing came from and who carried it out. The area has been cordoned (off)," he said.
Afghan military officials also attended the talks to discuss recent fighting between Afghan and Pakistani forces that Kabul said killed at least 13 people inside Afghanistan — inflaming already poor relations between Pakistan and Afghanistan.
NATO's International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan confirmed one ISAF soldier was killed and four wounded. According to policy, it did not give their nationalities. It said they "were ambushed by unknown assailants."
NATO said its soldiers were being treated in Afghanistan.
Rahmatullah Rahmat, governor of the Afghan border province of Paktia, said he, U.S. military advisers and Afghan army leaders traveled by helicopter to Pakistan for the meeting.
He said that after the meeting ended, gunmen opened fire as the group headed toward their helicopters. Rahmat said two Americans died and two were wounded.
He said American soldiers returned fire.
Pakistan has ordered a high-level inquiry into the shooting, Arshad said. He denied reports from the Afghan Defense Ministry spokesman that a Pakistani soldier had opened fire on the American troops.

in all the vastness of the country, they cannot find one spot where no terrorists exist?...I am picturing a meeting on the top of an isolated mountain, where any movement would have to come from below..guards would be instructed to shoot anything that moves...it is much harder to shoot uphill than it is to shoot downhill...

He made those remarks without a thought, or care about emboldening the enemy. Or the logical next question, 'How does an embolden enemy act'? They kill more Americans to confirm that Hairy is right. Now there are some soldiers captured, they will be tortured and killed most likely, and Hairy will be proved correct once again. You are right in some respects, but you paint your remarks with to broad a brush. The American administration is what appears to you to be stupid.
And stupid they may be, unless it is a trick. Look at all the Clinton tricks, the Bush tricks, now the Polosi/Hairy Reed tricks. You think it is only muslims who engage in tricky talk, word trickery, word magic? Most Americans, particularly the alert minds who post here, know word magic when it comes from muslims, or other liberals, or especially liberal politicians. Now to you, an outsider looking in, these people may seem exceeding stupid, while I, looking from the inside out, have to agree with you.

Even though it may see that way at times, we're really not all stupid. It's just that we don't cut the heads off of people for expressing their opinion, so when one of us does say something stupid, our free press reports it.

According to the above source, an officer from pakistan army shot the NATO soldiers during the meeting. It seems that Americans are hiding some thing to justify their support to pakistan.

jcom972, I agree that some of the christians (not all Christians) are also smart enough playing the victim card like the muslims. These are false propaganda against other religions by these missions.
Do you have any proof of innocent Christians being beaten? Christians are not beaten for the simple reason for their faith, but for forcing their faith in to others.
These pastors do this as a full time job. Then how come he earn for his life without a proper job? Muslims spread the religion by sword, these christians do by money. Who you are to advise others to believe in Jesus? If you believe in Jesus, keep it yourself, don't ask others to follow you.
These missions do this conversion as their full time job in the name of social service. They are a trouble to the religious harmony.
Jesus told all his followers to invite others to follow Him, not force them. This is truly what Matthew 10 means.

KABUL (Reuters) - A Pakistani officer shot dead two U.S. soldiers on Monday during a meeting over a border clash between Pakistani troops and Afghans, an Afghan government spokesman said.
A spokesman for the Pakistan military denied that its soldiers had shot anyone.
Afghan Defence Ministry spokesman Zahir Azimi told Reuters: "At the meeting, a Pakistani officer rose up and fired at U.S. soldiers, resulting in the deaths of two soldiers and wounding of two others."
