By Mark Lavie for the Associated Press:
JERUSALEM - Two Katyusha rockets fell on northern Israel Sunday, the first fired from Lebanon since last summer's inconclusive war with Hezbollah guerrillas. No one was hurt, but there was some damage, police and the military said.
Hezbollah denied firing the rockets in a broadcast on the militant group's Al- Manar television.
The attack raised the possibility of Israeli reprisal and a new flareup between the two countries. It came as Prime Minister Ehud Olmert was arriving in the United States for talks.
"Israel will not succumb to this provocation but will monitor the situation carefully," said an official with Olmert, indicating that Israel would not hit back. The official requested anonymity because of the sensitivity of the situation.
There was no immediate comment from the Lebanese government.
One of the rockets hit a factory and the other hit a car. Channel 2 TV's Arab affairs analyst, Ehud Yaari, said a splinter Palestinian group in Lebanon was probably behind the attack — not Hezbollah.
Hopefully that "splinter Palestinian group" will be named; otherwise, it is difficult to assess its alliances and goals for itself in the jihad against Israel. But strategically, it benefits the larger jihad groups tremendously, in that their assets and infrastructure are protected while groups that are obscure and harder to pin down do the dirty work of random, low-level attacks. If the pattern continues, it could point to an "outsourcing" of jihad for the sake of plausible deniability on the part of larger groups, and, where applicable, the countries that back them.
The rockets exploded near the northern town of Kiryat Shemona, hard hit during last summer's war, when almost 4,000 rockets were fired at Israel. The mayor of the town, Haim Barbivai, called for a tough response from both the Israeli and Lebanese governments. "Heaven help us if we have another summer like the last one. That would be a tragedy," he told Channel 2.
Eli Bin, director of the Magen David Adom rescue service, said no one was hurt.
Nir Mariash, a local police commander, told Channel 2 that residents in Israel's north were instructed to "to maintain normal life."
The privately owned Lebanese Broadcasting Corporation LBC channel reported three rockets were fired at Israel came from the village of Taibeh, but did not say who fired them.
Yup, always trying to drag Israel into their internal conflicts...

Thanks UNIFIL
Thanks Olmert
What better way to stop the infighting in Gaza than to have a common enemy?
Good thing the UN's there to police the problem. I'm no sure there'll be no bad press about Israel's reaction now.
Here's a great article to read. It also in many ways has examples in it which tie into the atheist post earlier on this site.

Were these peaceful Fatah-supporter rockets or warlike Hamas-supporter rockets?
Can't tell the players without a scorecard.
Hmmm. Refugee-camp Palis and Katyushas doesn't quite chime to me - maybe the odd Qassam or a dead sheep or two, but Katyushas seems a bit 'advanced' for those brain donors.
Worth keeping an eye on though...
OT Apologies to all,
Oh sorry, I forgot about the islamist apostasy rule. Look, you come over to my side and I will fight for you as you fight with me. We don’t surrender, we don’t stop, we don’t leave anyone of our own on the battlefield! We will come and get you and give you a proper burial! An honorable burial, not shot to pieces in the street left to rot! You are idiots if you don’t join us! I f you desecrate my body I care not! I am gone from that body so why should I care about Earthly possessions, isn’t that what you teach? Tell me the truth if you can islamists, I think you are Lairs or stupid, no matter, prove me wrong!

These were...it's all your fault rockets!!!

President Bush: "Everythings alright. Just go shopping."
Sound familiar?
I know, I know. What else can we do, right?
Maybe I missed it, but I didn't see any coverage of this incident on BBC World. What I did see on Al-BBCeera was lots of coverage of the Palestinian civil war in Gaza, with the BBC's idiotic Jeremy Bowan blaming the Palestinians' self-destructive behaviour all on Israel. The BBC's pro-Palestinian and anti-Israeli bias has become so obvious to all fair-minded people that it has become a national embarassment.

What a complete idiot Olmert and his collarators have turned out to be. And nowhere more so than in their complete inability to take advantage, for the sake of the people and government of Israel, of the clear disarray among the Arabs, including the so-called "Palestinians" who have put on a display of such internecine ferocity and viciousness, have exposed every bit of nonsense, from the supposedly beloved "Chairman Arafat," whose villa and some of his loot was ransacked in a rage by those who were not part of the ruling class, that is not part of Fatah, but had to endure the spectacle of the extraordinary diversio of funds -- the same diversion of funds that goes on, and will go again at the old, accustomed levels, if as Olmert promises, Israel eagerly promotes the crazed notion that Fatah should be supported, when the Slow Jihad of Fatah is not a whit better (oh, it's more corrupt, and it differs on such matters as tactics and timing, than Hamas, but that's all) than Hamas, and both Hamas and Fatah both share the same goal of destroying Israel, destroying any possibility o0f an Infidel, in this case Jewish, sovereign state, and will each do whatever it thinks best to achieve that end. The end is illegitimate, as are the "legitimate" rights of the non-existent "Palestinian" people. The Arab Muslims are not entitled to rule in that small sliver, Western Palestine, that was the only part set aside for the Mandate for Palestine. There are vast territories, with vast unmerited riches, and twenty-two Arab Muslim states where not a single non-Muslim or non-Arab minority has a stake or say in the government, and certainly does not enjoy autonomy, nor the tender solicitude that the "Palestinians" have managed to receive, because of both the machinations of the Islmaintern International at the U.N., and assorted willing collaborators of Islam, and the Arabs (some merely antisemites, others merely wildly uninformed about the history, and the context, and the significance, of the respective Jewish and Arab claims, and certainly uninformed about Islam and its claims that cannot be met by further Israeli concessions of any kind).
The farce was exposed and Olmert had only to point it out, or at least do nothing to get between that "Palestinian" unmasking, of everything, and the spectators world-wide. But Olmert couldn't do even that. He is now trying to help -- for god's sake, help -- the suddenly wrapped-in-the-mantle-of-pious-virtue the equally violent, slightly less strident, and much more corrupt Slow Jihadists of Fatah.
Olmert is easily the worst leader Israel has ever had, worse even than Sharon, or Begin with his sentimentality and pathetic desire to please -- please the likes of his "friends" Sadat and Jimmy Carter -- at Camp David. Given its size, given its state of permaenent imperilment, given the gigantic size, and unmerited wealth, of the forces arrayed against it, Israel cannot easily endure, or even survive, much more of this political mediocrity.
It's bad enough for the United States when it is held in thrall to policies that make no sense, for the United States is militarily and economically, thank god, still the most powerful country on earth, though its political class has proved itself most adept at squandering so much of the wealth and well-being of its citizens. Tiny Israel does not have the Atlantic and the Pacific doing guard duty, nor a benign state, as the United States has Canada to its north, and Mexico that is not a military threat, whatever other kind of threat unhindered migration from the south might pose.
For Israel there is no margin for error. And Olmert and those who still take him seriously are that error.
is someone taking bets as to how soon the war will start in the middle east????????
Hopefully that "splinter Palestinian group" will be named; otherwise, it is difficult to assess its alliances and goals for itself ...
Surely by now after Arafat successfully played the name game with different groups taking the blame while he professed innocence people will be wary of this ploy?
Wouldn't take much for Nasrallah to play the same game especially as Olmert will be in Washington.
I get newsletters from an Israeli charity I give to and they said a couple of months ago that Hezbollah was rearming.
One thing we can be assured of is that the only cease fire muslims are willing to do is a cease fire, or a 'peace', so they can rearm and/or regroup.
And this is blatently obvious what the muslims have done here.
time for Israel to finish what was started last year and to hell with Shamnesty International
