Of course, Join the Caravan is readily available online, but nonetheless, this is a good principle to uphold. Would these "civil libertarians" have fought for the right to circulate Mein Kampf among Germans in the U.S. during World War II?
"Court upholds ban on bin Laden book," from AAP, with thanks to the Constantinopolitan Irredentist:
Civil libertarians have failed to overturn the ban on the sale of two books, one containing a preface written by Osama bin Laden. In the Federal Court on Thursday, Justice Richards Edmonds dismissed an application by NSW Council for Civil Liberties Inc relating to the books Join the Caravan and Defence of the Muslim Lands.
The Classifications Review Board banned their sale last July after concluding both books "promote, incite or instruct in matters of crime or violence".
But the civil libertarians took issue with that conclusion, also arguing the two decisions involved errors in law.
The books originally were allowed for sale, but were banned after the federal attorney-general asked for a review of the December 2005 Classification Board decision.
Justice Edmonds said the review board noted the author of Join the Caravan, Sheik Abdullah Azzam, was often referred to as the Godfather of Jihad.
His motto, quoted in the book, was "Jihad and rifle alone. No negotiations. No conferences and No Dialogue".
"The review board considered that the book was `written in an emotive and passionate appeal to Muslims undertaking Jihad'," the judge said.
It also considered the book was, in its own words, "one of the principal inspirations for thousands of Muslims from all over the world to go and fight in Afghanistan to defend Muslim blood, property and honour".
The second book, written by the same Sheik, contained a preface by Osama bin Laden.
Banning books is not that effective in stopping the spread of violent memes. More effective would be stopping the immigration of any more human vectors of the jihadi meme.
Banning books is never a good idea. I would heartily recommned readers of this website to study Hitler's 'Mein Kampf' and Sayyid Qutub's 'Milestones' (if they have not already done so) to gain a clear insight into the nature of contemporary fascism. See for yourself, the influence that Nazism has had on contemporary Islam
It is the islamofascists who are desperate to ban and burn books which do not accord with their views.
Reasoned argument (not the suppression of bad argument) is the most effective way of dealing with Islam and Islamofascism.
Censorship is a bad thing.
Now our liberties have to be taken away, yet another great benefit of Third World Immigration.
If this ban had been overturned, then I would hope some Aussie would force the reintroduction of 'Mein Kampf' and force the civil liberties group to support its distribution.
What's good for the goose...
I read "Join the Caravan." It was actually written around 1979, and the jihad it refers to is the fight of the Afghan rebels against the Soviet invaders of Afghanistan. It exhorts Muslims all over the world to help their Afghan brethren fight the Communists.
Back then, during the Cold War, Western nations like America were actually relieved to find Islamic fundamentalists arming against the Communists.
Unfortunately, "Join the Caravan" is just as relevant against WESTERN infidels as it was against Soviet infidels. All the jihadists have to do is point their guns in our direction instead of at Russia. And now, that same book is being used to incite Muslims all over the world to fight us.
And only now is the West getting upset over the book.
It's an amazing thing, that anyone can write a book, and as soon as the work is published, it take's on magical property's. It's existance and availability is protected and fought for. People who dont know the author and have not read the book, will come out of the woodwork to defend it. People just do not like censorship. But there are some book's and writing's that should be censored. The problem with censorship is that it is alway's abused. So unless it is imposed, by an abuser, it is unworkable.
Book's are like subliminal advertising, they leave another's idea's in your head, that may get sent to the recycle bin, or they may not. Idea's of irrational hate, sanctioning violence, encouraging cruelty, or any other concept that appeals to the lower, or purient interests, opposes our manhood, crushes spiritual value's, and mean's slavery.
Sound's like the Quran, a book that is ferociously protected. It cant be banned, but it can be discredited, as probably the most damaging book ever written...And standing behind that, the false god of Islam, Allah...
What kill's a religion, is to be 'found out'. More and more people are 'finding out' about Islam, and already, knowledge is killing Allah. This is a form of group censorship, a concensus, a shunning, of all thing's Islamic. The people can, and will write their own book on Islam, and no one will be able to censor it...
Not only do I oppose the banning of books in general, but I have inherited a WWII-era translation of Mein Kampf (and my family is of German descent). Knowing the enemy was more important than fear of his ideas contaminating our society and it is so today.
Besides, censorship of books became superfluous when people stopped reading because the television was invented. PapaBear is right, Keeping would-be immigrants out is much more effective.
...Muslims love censorship, they burn books, loot libraries, destroy cds, records, and tapes of historical events....Muslims will give you the death sentence for being caught with banned books or literature...Muslims rewrite history b00ks,and allow a very limited amount of knowledge, Islamic knowledge that is, to filter out...
Robert nothing much useful will ever be achieved by waving the "banning band" around. Ever.

This blanket condemnation of censorship is nonsense.
One could use the arguments against censorship to protect virtually anything that might be used to attack our basic moral standards and rights.
Why, there are many titles just waiting to be written and distributed through our school libraries.
For example:
"Hands off boy/man love"
"Murderers and bank robbers are people too"
"Pedophilia for everyone"
"Lop off an infidel's head today"
"The Protocols of the Elders of Zion"
Why should we tolerate literature that promotes destruction of our Western societies and serve as manuals of destruction for enemies in our midst?
Just don't buy the damned craptastic book.
And thereby let the publishers go broke.
(And have the OZ intelligence people keep a note off all who buy it, since it is a terrorism incitment document, which simple self-preservation requires that their secureity services to take due note of.)
The stranglehold the PeeCee Left has on elite media and academia means that the practice of banning books will, sooner or later, be used against Christians, conservatives, opponents of homosexual practice in general, and everyone outside the PeeCee pale. I join the posters here who think that the land of Oz had made a bad move.
I am 150% behind the poster above who said that knowing the enemy is more important. And, yes, I have read both Mein Kampf and the works of Mao--both of whom, barring deathbed conversions, are probably burning in Hell right now and bitterly ruing every word they ever penned (along with Muhammad, Al-Bukhari, Hazreti Ali, and others).
