Dear Mr. Fantasy

Some people just don’t get it. They’ll stand in the midday sun and swear that night has fallen. They will stare down the barrel of a gun and claim they see an olive branch. Welcome to the world of Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert.

"Things in Gaza are turning around, Olmert says," by Ahiya Raved for Ynet:

Olmert spoke in a conference held by The Foundation Fund (Keren Hayesod), an organization dedicated to raising funds for Israel all over the world.

“I'll be meeting with President Mubarak, King Abdullah and Abu Mazen on Monday, and together we'll try to create a fresh start for us and for the Palestinians," he said.

Another fresh start. Someone please remind me how many of these starts we have seen. I have lost count.

"We'll have the hand of the US guiding us. President Bush wants to see the vision of a Palestinian state co-existing peacefully alongside Israel realized before he leaves his presidency.

Forget it. The Palestinians will see that it never happens. They don’t want it to. They never did. There may be a Palestinian state, but it will never co-exist peacefully alongside Israel.

Some say it (the violence in the Strip) only proves we have no partner for peace. I choose to see the chances, not just the difficulties. I think things in Gaza are turning around for the better.”

The icing on the cake. Things in Gaza are getting better? Excuse me, Mr. Olmert…but have you watched the news lately? Are you aware that Iran is sitting in your backyard? Are you aware that the worst kind of Islamic state is just on the other side of a security fence?

Are you serious?

I call for more posts with references to Traffic.

After reading the article Robert, I think I'll go dig out my CSN disks and listen to good old 'Dear Mr Fantasy'. You know..... Something to take me out of this gloom.

I wonder if Olmert has a copy of 'Carry On'.

He certainly does......Carry on........

"President Bush wants to see the vision of a Palestinian state co-existing peacefully alongside Israel realized before he leaves his presidency."

Mr. Olmert, your duty is to your CITIZENS. I am a loyal American, BUT - as far as Israel's national policies toward Gaza and terrorists go, screw what Bush wants. Bush might want to be able to flap his arms and fly before he leaves his presidency; that doesn't mean you need to do anything to help him accomplish it.

And it shall come to pass, that in all the land, saith the LORD, two parts therein shall be cut off and die; but the third shall be left therein.

And I will bring the third part through the fire, and will refine them as silver is refined, and will try them as gold is tried: they shall call on my name, and I will hear them: I will say, It is my people: and they shall say, The LORD is my God.

For I will gather all nations against Jerusalem to battle; and the city shall be taken, and the houses rifled, and the women ravished; and half of the city shall go forth into captivity, and the residue of the people shall not be cut off from the city.

Then shall the LORD go forth, and fight against those nations, as when he fought in the day of battle.

And men shall dwell in it, and there shall be no more utter destruction; but Jerusalem shall be safely inhabited.

And this shall be the plague wherewith the LORD will smite all the people that have fought against Jerusalem; Their flesh shall consume away while they stand upon their feet, and their eyes shall consume away in their holes, and their tongue shall consume away in their mouth.

Zechariah 13-14

Mr. Olmert and Mr. Bush both need to be committed.

Did Bush and Olmert share a padded cell in a past life? It is obvious that Bush lacks even a rudimentary grasp of the Israeli-Palestinian debacle, and his incompetent Secretary of State is equally inept and clueless. Ms. Rice is cronyism in action, the hallmark of the Bush administration. But what is Olmert's excuse? He lives in this endless nightmare, yet can't see the forest for the trees. Before he follows Mr. Bush's guidelines, he should take a look at Iraq.

If a genie popped out of a lamp and offered me one wish, it would be that the American people didn't have to choose between a lousy candidate for president and a hideous candidate for president in the next election. I would love to vote for someone that I truly admire and believe in instead of the lesser of two evils, but I guess that's a fantasy too.

You're wrong Wishbone; that title is a Traffic reference, not CSN.

"I think things in Gaza are turning around for the better.”

That's an astonishing statement. Amazing. Sad.

Robert,

I sense an understandble deep frustration and you don't need me to me to tell you but this is the daily grind.

don't let the bastards grind you....down.

My plan is to relocate the entirety of Israel to the midwest and then let the middle east sink into the shitpit it's always been since about 600AD.

Can I get a U.N. resolution on that one?

dfobare-

Little bit presumptuous aren't we mate? I know who wrote and originally recorded the bloody track. I simply prefer the CSN cover of it, along with just about everything else they recorded.

The 'reference' was to the song, not the artist. Of course, being 'wrong,' I wouldn't be expected to know that would I?

Olmert seems to be placing the situation in an unrealistic light, but perhaps he's simply indicating that he wants to remain positive and open during the discussions. Doing this type of thing may work when you're sitting across from diplomats from certain civilizations ( ie, western, south american, buddhist, japanese or hindu.... and sometimes maybe even Orthodox)

but it won't work with reps from Sinic and Islamic cultures. The appeal to force is at the top of the list for both of these.

Olmert is approaching people from the Islamic culture with tactics that will fail to produce his desired results.

Another example is all those people in Europe (Jacaques Chirac would be a good example) and other parts of the world who now sincerely believe (due to relentless state-sponsored brainwashing) that Israel is the cause of Islam's present bloody global jihad (but isn't).
