Alarmed by the increasing violence directed at Christians in Iraq, local Iraqi Americans are mobilizing to push for their protection.Several Iraqi groups met Friday in West Bloomfield to discuss how to publicize the plight of Iraqi Christians, many of whom have close ties to metro Detroit. The Southfield-based Network of Iraqi American Organizations sent urgent letters to the Iraqi government, the White House and the United Nations. Others are planning to rally this month in Oak Park to bring attention to what has happened in the last month to Iraqi Christians, known as Chaldeans or Assyrians....
"The situation is very, very bad," said Jacoub Mansour, a medical doctor from West Bloomfield. "We need them to protect us. We are part of Iraq, the first people of Iraq. ... We want to stay there."
As with most of metro Detroit's sizable Chaldean population, Mansour -- who was born in Iraq -- has relatives there, and he worries about them.
About half of his cousins have fled Baghdad for northern Iraq because of threats. Three of his relatives were kidnapped a few months ago. One of them was beaten severely, he said.
"It's so bad now for the Christians," Mansour said. Other innocent people are getting killed too, but Christians "are the targets lately."
Nabil Roumayah, who heads the network, fears that Iraq's minority populations soon could disappear unless the Iraqi government acts quickly. "Take some action and enforce the law," he said. "We need protection now."
Roumayah said that some leaders have said they're concerned about Iraq's minorities, but no action has been taken to protect them or to invest in Christian areas....

Now if this was the other way where muslims were persecuted, USA would have flown them in groups out of Iraq like they brought Somalis and Albanians or look at Darfur. For 20 years Christians were killed by muslim Sudanese but no word out of any western country till muslim arabic Sudanese starting killing African muslims in Darfur. Boy even that got George Clooney visit that region. Christian blood is cheap for western countries.
Pakistani Christians dont even get Canadian visas any more because Canadian embassy in Pakistan has hired muslim staff to process applications before it gets to the visa issuing officer.

Detroiters should also fear for Detroits Christians....
Locally, they are already taking action to try to make fellow Christians aware of the situation. A Chaldean gentleman was passing out flyers before mass at my smaller Metro Detroit Catholic parish- the flyer announced that Christians are being forced to convert or die in Iraq and that the White House is doing nothing about it. Included was the phone number for both President Bush and Speaker of the House Pelosi.
Sadly, many people wouldn't take the flyer; the area is not Arabic in the least, and some seemed nervous that someone of obvious Arabic descent was at the Church.

I assume that all of the mosques and Muslim organizations in the Detroit area have issued statements of support for the plight of the Iraqi Christians. Can I also assume that local "inter-faith" organizations, usually under the direction of the National Council of Churches, will hold marches, rallies and candle-light vigils for the Christians of Iraq?

Crusader, you got it right. Christians are a dime a dozen anywhere in the world. Nobody cares because they don't fly airplanes into buildings and try to obtain nuclear devices to detonate among innocent civilians.

Maybe we should! Yeah I'm being sarcastic but I can remember many Hollywood movies where Christians are always the terrorists. There was one sick movie where a Serbian diplomat brought a suitcase nuke to New York in order to detonate it. Just imagine if they portrayed a Saudi or Paki diplomat doing that? Thier governments would scream to get the movie banned but Christians, especially Orthodox Serbs, are fair game for media bigotry.
It'll be a cold day in hell when Christians start detonating nuclear weapons in cities.
