Homegrown jihadists plotting mayhem in New York

"Hashmi lived here most of his life, and he didn't feel he was an American."

"Pros say maniacs are right here and plotting mayhem in the city," by Thomas Zambito for the New York Daily News (thanks to Atlas Shrugs):

The trail of terror leads into the city's very own backyard.

Neighborhoods in Queens, Brooklyn and the Bronx are spawning homegrown radicals, and some are plotting horrific acts to rival the 9/11 attacks, city and federal investigators say.

[...]

Shahwar Matin Siraj's failed plot to blow up the Herald Square subway station in 2003 was hatched after he saw photos of prisoners abused at Abu Ghraib. His lawyer said he felt a duty as a Muslim to respond.

Brooklyn College grad Syed Hashmi's anti-American fervor was stoked by exposure to al-Muhajiroun, a terror group whose leader voiced support for attacks in London and the U.S., those who know him say.

Hashmi, 27, was reared in Flushing but felt increasingly isolated by his devotion to an ancient culture that seemed at odds with the ideals of America, according to his friends.

Before his 2003 graduation, he invited an al-Muhajiroun speaker to the college's Flatbush campus.

"Hashmi lived here most of his life, and he didn't feel he was an American," said Azeem Khan, the assistant secretary general of the Islamic Circle of North Americans in Queens. "He wasn't afforded the opportunity to feel part of the community or have a greater relationship with the community or feel accepted."

Hashmi was extradited two weeks ago to face charges in Manhattan of conspiring to send money and military gear to Al Qaeda forces in Afghanistan. His lawyer says he may have been an outspoken political activist but he has never committed a crime.

Near the bustling intersection of Brooklyn's Atlantic and Flatbush Aves., a sign outside the Ahlul Bayt Islamic Library reads, "Islam is the Solution."

Across the way is Al-Farooq mosque, which the feds identified as an Al Qaeda funding source in 2004.

The mosque is not far from the former home of the House of Knowledge bookstore, where the feds say Moroccan-born owner Abdulrahman Farhane, 52, talked about raising money for jihadists with a man who was a government informer.

Farhane pleaded guilty to conspiring to send money overseas and recently was sentenced to 13 years in prison.

Recordings of Farhane led the FBI to a Bronx jazz musician, Tarik Shah, who pleaded guilty to conspiring to train Al Qaeda operatives in martial arts.

Shah's radical leanings were evident in 2000, when he and others tried to use a mosque in upstate Poughkeepsie to rally members for a jihad. An armed confrontation with the leader of the mosque, Anwar Clifton Kearney, led Shah to look elsewhere.

Kearney said he was busy trying to help a struggling flock support themselves, but Shah had something else in mind.

"They were talking about jihad, and we can't even pay our rent," Kearney testified recently.

Well, after all, what's important?

"They were talking about jihad, and we can't even pay our rent," Kearney testified recently.

Mr Kearney has got it right of course when he suggests a proper explanation of Jihad.

'Jihadtopaytherent'

There are no doubt a million possibilities here for defining the correct meanings for Jihad.

Jihadtogrowabeard
Jihadtohavealaugh, although this is stretching it a bit because Muslims as a rule don't do that kind of thing often because in order to do so, jihadtohaveasenseofhumour.

Across the way is Al-Farooq mosque, which the feds identified as an Al Qaeda funding source in 2004.

Wait a minute, the feds identified this place in 2004 as a funding source for Al Qaeda?

And it's STILL in operation?

Okay, I'll take the bait; why is it still in operation?

The mosque is not far from the former home of the House of Knowledge bookstore, where the feds say Moroccan-born owner Abdulrahman Farhane, 52, talked about raising money for jihadists with a man who was a government informer.

This bookstore is a known hang-out for Al Qaeda types who are plotting to kill us -- it too, is STILL in operation?

What about that terrorist training facility in upstate New York -- known to the feds -- has it been shut down?

Didn't think so.

I suppose nothing will be done about the 300 some odd crazies that want to blow themselves up in our streets won't be stopped either?

So, I'm glad these particular nut-jobs were stopped and obviously someone in the FBI is doing their jobs, but I would feel better if these mosques were ALL closed down because they are breeding grounds for murderers.

...I have seen "homegrown" men wearing Muslim garb in Queens. I observed with a wary eye...In the back of my mind I am reminded of the every increasing captures of similiar men caught in varying stages of plotting to kill Americans....They are stand offish and behave in a most peculiar manner....I suspect they hate Whitey and Islam offers them a way to fight back...I suspect they, as does Hashmi, do not feel American (they may, in fact, feel they are victimized by the very laws of the land)...Muslims definitely try to intimidate people by their mannerisms and clothing....I sense they could easily resort to being violent...They are making such assumptions easier to make...

.....be vigiliant and report all suspicious activities to authorities....do not be intimidated...

Across the way is Al-Farooq mosque, which the feds identified as an Al Qaeda funding source in 2004.

Let's see. The thought police want us to believe that if we link Jihad-Islam-Muslim together we are committing a crime.

Well here's a twist on that. The linkage here being Disaffection-Muslim-Islam-Jihad.

Sounds like your normal Muslim-Islam-Jihad=Loser.

I have a neighbor on Long Island who lives next door to 5 young Muslim males who all rent and live in one house. She is afraid to even look at them, especially when they all roll out the prayer rugs in the back yard.

"Hashmi lived here most of his life, and he didn't feel he was an American," said Azeem Khan, the "He wasn't afforded the opportunity to feel part of the community or have a greater relationship with the community or feel accepted."--according to the assistant secretary general of the Islamic Circle of North Americans in Queens.

What exactly does this mean? We hear this frequently. The implication seems to be that the responsibility falls on Americans to be sure that Muslims "feel like Americans" and that they have the right "opportunities."

Misguided fanatics like this want to live by rules that Americans reject, practice odd rituals of behavior that interfere with their employment and social interaction, they reject the American form of government, yet launch a complaint that one of their own "doesn't feel American." Who among us would be sympathetic to such an excuse?

I wonder, do they ever elaborate on exactly what opportunities they are not afforded? Muslims practically own a significant number of universities in the US. They have mosques galore, and a plethora of Islamic nonprofit organizations ready to defend and support them. Employers bend over backwards to accommodate their unwillingness to touch alcohol or meat, etc.

What more are we expected to do? Here's an idea: Lets set up some nonprofit organizations to go around to universities and mosques and offer courses to self-disenfranchised muslims on how to feel American. The course could start with the benefits of "taking responsibility for one's own thoughts and actions." Then go on to "learning to play with others." Then "the legal system as a workable alternative to blowing things up."

'Islam is the Solution'.
Islam is a toxic solution which ought to be be poured down a drain pipe before it poisons all
Humanity.

"Anwar Clifton Kearney"?

This suggests two distinct plausible possibilities.

#1. The Old Sod, or Irish, Explanation:

Former reader of James Clarence Mangan with a heartfelt crush on Dark Rosaleen, former admirer of James A. Joyce and dear dirty Dublin, or would it b County Galway, descendant of a long line of deeply Catholic farmers, and of one in particular who not only managed to attend a hedge-school but to make it to America, a former admirer -- practically a stage-door-johnny at one time -- of entrancing Geraldine FitzGerald, a former student at a parochial school in America, or possibly a private one, and someone who, under some crazed misunderstanding, some mental and emotional disarray, decided to become "Anwar Clifton Kearney" in total thralldom to Islam, or something that he allows himself to believe must be "Islam."

#2. The Land O' Goshen, or African-American, Explanation:

Former reader of the Bible and listener to Sunday sermons that in content and rhythms -- that Hebraic parallelism -- formed the basis for the speech of black leaders, former admirer himself, or at least the descendant of a long line of admirers (whose Sunday-Go-To-Meeting best he still retains as a dim memory), of jazz and blues and Gospel music, without which that "Black Experience in America" (now a staple of college curriculua) cannot be understood, former admirer of Martin Luther King, and possibly even of Bayard Rustin, presiding genius behind the March on Washington, and someone who under some crazed misunderstanding, some mental and emotional disarray, decided to become "Anwar Clifton Kearney" in total thralldom to Islam, or something that he allows himself to believe must be "Islam."

...Not feeling American?....would you accept a one way ticket to any Muslim land courtesy of the US government?.....Ha...didn't think so.....

"He wasn't afforded the opportunity to feel part of the community or have a greater relationship with the community or feel accepted."

Oh, I see. It was the COMMUNITY'S fault. Every time he tried to reach out to the community, he was rebuffed. No doubt, Toastmasters, the office softball team, and the YMCA refused him entree. I'm sure he tried to volunteer with Special Olympics, the local soup kitchen, and an adult literacy program, but they all found excuses for why they didn't need his help. Why, even the local nursing home staff told him they didn't want a person-like-him reading to lonely residents.

Poor ol' Hashmi, just another victim of those mean, nasty, ugly Americans.

So the hamas sets up shop in Gaza, and within a week issues this decree.

Now, think about all those mosques operating freely in Western countries; think about their bleating about "discrimination"; think about all that money flowing in from the house of Saud.

If we refuse to stop these individuals NOW because of our self-delusions about more intellectual, more etc. -- do we really imagine that once these muslims, now our welcomed guests, will be as charitable toward us once THEY are in power?

Yes, they are coming into power alright!

Ellison is already in Congress; look around at your local elections for municipal government -- there are lots of islamic sounding names running for office; and a lot of realtor/brokers with islamic sounding names too.

There IS a war going on NOW on many levels.

Read the clip and think about this JW article in that context.

Abu Saqer accused the leadership of the Gaza Christian community of "proselytizing and trying to convert Muslims with funding from American evangelicals."

"This missionary activity is endangering the entire Christian community in Gaza," he said.

About 2,000 Christians live in the Gaza Strip, which has a population of over 1 million.

Abu Saqer said Hamas "must work to impose an Islamic rule or it will lose the authority it has and the will of the people."

His comments come after gunmen Sunday attacked Gaza's Latin Church and adjacent Rosary Sisters School, reportedly destroying crosses, bibles, pictures of Jesus and furniture and equipment. The attackers also stole a number of computers

Okay - don't look at them directly but watch them. If and when the time comes, still don't look at them directly, but keep your focus on the front sight. Be prepared and watch them.

In my area we have bosnians, palestinians and others. Many bosnians. I have a friend I email with and her family lives very near Bosnians who are still practicing Muslims. I tell her to watch them and she always agrees. She tells me her kids don't like to play with the Bosnian children because "they're mean."

I made sure she had the details on the Salt Lake City Bosnian back on St. Valentine's Day. I think I sent her a link from this site. Thanks.

vacation plans
==============
I'm going on a vacation up through Boston, New York, Washington DC and Philadelphia in a few weeks. My children are old enough to learn and understand the history of the American Revolution and are able to discuss the underlying principles laid out by the Founding Fathers. We need to go this year before they get too old and are no longer interested in the topics. We'll save the California road trip for those years...

but anyway, I'm going up East for a couple weeks. Because I'm half crazy and an old Boy Scout I believe in being prepared. I'm taking a 'survival kit' along with me in case we get caught in the middle of something.... We'll be in Boston on the 4th among 700,000 other targets. I'm taking my Mossberg 590 along too, just in case we have a serious incident. It's a damned shame to have to think this way, but it's going to be worse than that before it gets better in my opinion. Regimes like Iran will have it no other way. Something wicked this way comes and it won't be denied.

Robert or Anyone -

Is there a list of foiled attempts of terrorism in the U.S.? I don't think that most Americans are aware of just how many there have been because, as we know, the MSM just doesn't discuss it. I would like a list so that I can send it to friends who are skeptical about the Islamic threat.

Also, Robert, I am really enjoying "Blogging the Koran"!

Thanks,
Cinder

I have compiled (quite easily, I might add) a list of murders and attempted murders carried out by Muslims acting on the basis of what the founder of Islam taught them.

And Daniel Pipes speaks of it:

http://www.danielpipes.org/article/3450

Cinder you may also want to go through the spreadsheet kept by thereligionofpeace.com, but this will be some work... the running total since 9/11 is over 8200 incidents now, worldwide.

Well, NYC is a known sanctuary city. Sort of stupid if you ask me after they are the ones on the top of the jihadist's lists for attacks. But NYC is also a left wing kook city - and they are probably still hoping that appeasing muslims is still the way to go, I suppose. I suppose the heads up their cavities are comfy up there, I can't figure out why else they haven't woken up.

As for muslims not fitting in. Well, gee they don't do anything that Americans do. I listed a bunch of activities that we do and never do I see a bearded, turbin wearing or scarf wearing, robed individuals doing. And they are the ones who are told in their koran to not make friends with us - it isn't the other way around. Do you see any of them at a baseball or any sports game, a movie, a roller rink, a ski resort, a play, an opera, a pizza parlor, the beach or a swimming pool after school with their parents and siblings or a girlfriend/boyfriend, the races (any type), etc. Anywhere? I see them scurrying out of grocery stores, in full tent dress, and the women is never alone - she has her herd of kids and a male accompanying her - not someone I want to approach and say 'hi' to.

They come here and have no intention of assimilating. Now, everyone is all up in arms about illegal immigration. I don't like the idea either, but the Mexicans and Chinese illegals assimilate. They like to go to a movie or a restaurant once in a while. They like chatting and taking a walk with me at lunch. They like joining little groups and doing things like knitting, reading books, taking art classes, etc. (we have some groups that do these things at work, and art classes are taught at the city center)

I wish our government would get out of their heads these people, muslims, are here to be assimilated because they are not. If their kids are friendly, it is taken out of them as they grow up.

A_Plague_on_Both_Houses

Thanks! Your last post about the 8200 incidents seems about right to me in light of everything that I see Robert post. Every other post seems to be about yet another incident of possible terror or an indictment of someone providing money for terrorism.

The general American public doesn't have a clue! I am afraid that when all is said and done, the MSM is going to have a great deal to answer for since they continue to repress or at least dismiss this information.

BTW, I have asked this before, but do you see a rapid increase recently in activity? There is the rapid radicalization of Pakistan, Palestine, and, now possibly Turkey? I get a feeling from all that I am reading that there is a definite stirring of activity in all these cells that are sleeping, even here in the U.S. - almost as if they are waking up.

I feel much like stockpiling a lot of groceries and supplies just in case.

Cinder

CJ-

Very well put.

To assimilate first means that you have to get off your ass.

We need to stem this uncontrolled tide of potential jihadists.

(As Bush, etc., invite in more future sleeper terrorists... as "students" and "refugees" [7,000 new visas alone for more college-bound Saudis, etc.] from Muslim lands... in their delusional quest to look "nice" to global Mohammedans -who have nothing but contempt for infidels, and who are really aiming not to emigrate but to colonize.)

I live exactly one block from the mosque (al Farooq) and the "house of knowledge" bookstore. They also have another store where they sell "islamic stuffs". Cracks me up everytime I see it. It's one block in Brooklyn that seems to be getting smaller each year - due to all of the new trendy shops and restaurants. There used to be about 3 blocks on Atlantic that were over-run with muslim crap. Now its only one. Thank God.

[...]

Well Cinder, I do agree it seems that the frequency and pace of events has accelerated even during the time I've been tuned into it. Especially those reports of 'Sudden Jihadi Syndrome' inside the United States. Maybe some of it stems from the incidents being framed properly now, whereas earlier they may have been seen as something else. I'm not sure. I do see and hear more and more references to 'jihad' 'islamofacism' 'homegrown terrorism' and people calling it 'death cult' '7th century barbarism' 'cult' 'facism' 'movement to dominate the world' 're-establishing the Caliphate' and so on... people seem to be connecting the dots more and more at a grassroots level. This moves upward into the media and those who are quoted in the media, so it's working.

But the problem itself? It seems to be gaining momentum around the world and inside the United States, agreed. It's going to be worse before it gets better, I see no way around this eventuality. Iran won't be stopped without action and if Pakistan falls to jihadis we'll have to act. Israel is going to have another battle too as far as I can see. The United States will have to do something about Iran and Pakistan whether we want to or not.

Someone stick this article under Ted Kennedy's fat face. Colin Powell's too. Of course they don't have to live among the riff raff (fenced off, heavily armed guards) or ride the subway or public bus. They are not affected by public schools or any of the inconveniences of the average man in America, but they want immigration.
Who was it that said "eat the rich"?

Who was it that said "eat the rich"?

Steven Tyler of Aerosmith? :))

One of the most devout looking muslims I've seen in our side of town runs the local army surplus store. Talk about a wierd feeling. Stocking up on supplies, survival handbooks, holsters.. then you get to the counter and "!Uh..HI there buddy!!"

Also, I recently drove past the Churches Chicken in Kingwood Texas and lo and behold... "Now Serving 100% Halal Chicken!!"

Awesome!

Plague - When you are in Boston, it may help to keep in mind that the guys in 1775 who started the ball rolling also had to "carry" in their own country. One of my favorite bits of poetry begins

By the rude bridge that arched the flood
Their flag to April's breeze unfurled
Here once the embattled farmers stood
And fired the shot heard 'round the world

If you get a chance, be sure to take 'em to Lexington and Concord.

Remember how dismissive Mayor Michael Bloomberg was a few weeks back about the threat against the Kennedy airport fuel line? Move along folks, ain't nothin' to see here.

I live in nyc and am very concerned about what is going on in my area around the East Village and Lower East side. There is a section centered largely around the Madina Masjid Mosque on 11th street and 1st avenue. The mosque is in a windowless red brick building with nothing on the outside except signs showing Islamic supremecy and security cams. But what's even shadier is that it is a fundamentalist Mosque that is attended almost exclusively by bearded men most of whom also wear Afghan garb.

What goes on at this Mosque is not known, they are strangers and have almost nothing to do with the wider community. The lone exception I am aware of was an "interfaith" meeting that occured last year. Relatives of mine attended this community meeting which consisted nothing more than angry Muslim men yelling at a local Catholic priest that Americans should not sing "God Bless America" because Allah would never bless America!!! The area around the Mosque is also being transformed I've noticed a dramatic increase in the resturants serving halal food and most of the new clubs and lounges are Middle Eastern themed Hookah Bars. There are virtually one of each on every block now.

I am the third generation of my family to live in this area and I feel like a foreigner. These Salafists picked the perfect neighborhood to settle in and infiltrate. This is an extremely liberal and (too) opened minded neighborhood that has always welcomed immigrants so no one dares to question what the latest arrivals are up to. Even worse many seem to enjoy nothing more than a ritually slaughtered kabab and and a hookah and to fiddle while Rome burns.

This is a pic of their Islamic supremacism outside the Mosque along with a billboard of a topless Kate Moss across the street that surprise surprise they did not like:

MP - I'm going to Boston for precisely those reasons you mention. We'll walk up Bunker Hill and see the site of the Boston Tea Party.

I want them to understand in a material way what Philadelphia Freedom meant to those farmers and what the fight demanded of them. Farmers begat Founding Fathers and Framers of Constitutions. We'll go to Philadelphia and the National Archives in Washington to see the tangible results of risked lives and fortunes beginning in Lexington and Concord.

I want them to understand why Franklin said 'We must all hang together or we shall all hang separately' and what they really meant.

Philadelphia Freedom is THE National Treasure man. It's time we understood that again. I will begin with myself and my daughters, but I'm not stopping there.

Dont Tread On Me.

Plague - Here's hoping you and your family enjoy a safe and educational vacation. If the D.C. leg of the trip allows you any free time, take in Annapolis (30 miles from D.C.) which has a nice harbor, more 18th century buildings than Williamsburg, and the U.s. Naval Academy.

Thanks MP - I appreciate the warm wishes and I was thinking about Annapolis as a place to go if we have time. The B & Bs are too expensive for use to stay in the town (I checked), but I'd thought about it. I've been to Annapolis in my younger days when I used to travel around on the motorcyle during summer breaks. Annapolis is a beautiful place and I'd like to go back this time around if we have the chance, but we'll have to stay up in Bethesda or some place where I can get reasonable rates via hotwire.com

We have our share of these in California, too, as we've seen in such incidences as Lodi mosque.
(the county just north adjacent to me).

I don't know about the east coast, but here, they're being watched like a hawk.

Annapolis would be a fine day trip, especially is you schedule travel from your Bethesda hotel to avoid rush hour. Bethesda to Annapolis approx. 50 minutes. Another alternative is Alexandria, VA (right on the beltway.) Much nicer than Georgetown, and full of G.Wahington sites including Mt. Vernon - only a few miles out of town down a scenic parkway that follows the Potomac River.

Agreed - we're going to Mount Vernon. Thanks for the recommendations.

Actually there are three windows on one side but they are covered by two layers of black bars and difficult to see through.

No, he REFUSED to assimilate. Just like most of the Muslims coming to this country now. Thank you bloody liberals for the "Hate America" first crap that it taught to all ages in our public schools now-a-days.

He didn't feel like an American...because he is anti (duh!). And speaking of them coming out into the community like we do..I doubt that..then they can't be in their mole holes (compounds) or hidden rooms/ making bombs, explosives, weapons ..etc. Time for Muslim men and women take those hot sweaty clothes off so we can see whats attached to them. Those long garbs can hide any number of things from weapons to explosives, even vials of poison.
