The Messiah must be on the way. Human Rights Watch condemns Palestinian war crimes and makes no mention of Israel or the "occupation."
"Gaza: Armed Palestinian Groups Commit Grave Crimes," from HRW:
(New York, June 13, 2007) – During recent fighting in the Gaza Strip, armed Palestinian groups have committed serious violations of international humanitarian law, in some cases amounting to war crimes, Human Rights Watch said today. In internal Palestinian fighting over the last three days, both Fatah and Hamas military forces have summarily executed captives, killed people not involved in hostilities, and engaged in gun battles with one another inside and near Palestinian hospitals. On Saturday, armed Palestinians from Islamic Jihad and the Fatah-affiliated Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigade used a vehicle with a “TV” insignia to attack an Israeli military position on the border with Gaza.
“These attacks by both Hamas and Fatah constitute brutal assaults on the most fundamental humanitarian principles,” said Sarah Leah Whitson, Middle East director for Human Rights Watch. “The murder of civilians not engaged in hostilities and the willful killing of captives are war crimes, pure and simple.”On Sunday, Hamas military forces captured 28-year-old Muhammad Swairki, a cook for President Mahmoud Abbas’s presidential guard, and executed him by throwing him to his death, with his hands and legs tied, from a 15-story apartment building in Gaza City. Later that night, Fatah military forces shot and captured Muhammad al-Ra’fati, a Hamas supporter and mosque preacher, and threw him from a Gaza City high-rise apartment building. On Monday, Hamas military forces attacked the home in Beit Lahiya of Jamal Abu al-Jadiyan, a senior Fatah official, captured him, and executed him on the street with multiple gunshots. On Tuesday, there were reports of additional killings of individuals not involved in hostilities.
In the June 9 incident, four armed Palestinians drove a white jeep bearing “TV” insignias to a fence on the Gaza-Israel border and fired at Israeli soldiers. The Israelis returned fire, killing one Palestinian. Spokesmen for Islamic Jihad and the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigade, an offshoot of Fatah, claimed responsibility for the attack. An Islamic Jihad spokesperson denied that Palestinians had put press markings on the jeep used in the June 9 attack, and accused the Israeli military of doing so after the fact. However, photos taken by the Associated Press as the attack was under way show the letters “TV” written in red on the front of the jeep.

Sorry, you missed one, Jay. I knew it was too good to be true. From the article:
The Palestinian Journalists Union on Sunday criticized the use by armed factions of press insignia in a statement: “The use of vehicles that carry ‘Press,’ ‘TV’ or other signs ... exposes journalists’ lives to danger, gives the Israeli occupation a pretext to target and kill journalists and restricts their ability to perform their professional and national duties. … We demand all parties stop using these methods.”
Concerned,
HRW is quoting the Palestinians. HRW themselves did not mention the "occupation".
HRW is just weeping because Muslims are killing Muslims. What else is new?
The siege of Sderot is also a war crime -- and it involves civilians. Think we'll hear HRW taking up their cause? Think again. The HRW is a racist organization, concerned about the "violations" of the "rights" of only one group of people -- that's Muslims. No one else merits a mention in their calculus (unless of course it happens to be condemning Israelis or Americans of "war crimes", or "crimes against humanity" etc. -- then, of course, you get the standard demonizations).
Years ago HRW lost all credibility, and that remains the case.
frankly, let's just keep them all in a ring and let them kill each other. fewer for us to 'negotiate' with...
Any surprise here ? None.....I find it all quite amusing really...."Palestinians" ....though I prefer Hugh's description alot better....the Arab Shock Troops are savages...animals...I'd like to see some officials from the EU visit Gaza on a "fact finding" mission and promote their vision of peace in the Gaza ....
Greetings:
The fixation on the use of the "TV" markings tickled my old timer's brain about an incident during my sojurn in South Vietnam.
A film crew was sent out to our company in the bush by our higher echelon. My squad was going out on a patrol and our company commander asked our squad leader if he wanted to take them out on our patrol. Without a split-second of hesitation, he asked, "Do I have to bring them back?"
Where you stand depends on where you sit.
Unfortunately, some vile scumbag in UN pay by the name of De Soto managed to make HRW look good by publishing a report that managed to blame America and Europe for the fighting. Why? Because we refused to pay our money to Hamas unless they accepted Israel's existence. Dear me, how criminal. Now I can go and murder anyone I like, and if I am prosecuted I can say "it was the fault of the Government for not paying me more money"!
Jay, you Christo-phobic,
Your comments about the Messiah hurt my Christian feelings. I declare a crusade against you, infidel!
I too was a amazed that HRW actually did something right. Loved the headline, btw :) :)
Dim flickerings of human intelligence to be sure.
Noteworthy however that this is a complaint about hamas and fatah killing mohammedans.
Mohammedans remain the victims-of-choice for the ritualized institutions of politics and media.
So it is not clear that this declaration represents any basic departure.
In all likelihood Jews, Christians, Hindus and Buddhists are still fair game.
I don't expect to hear HRW complaining about murders in Thailand anytime soon, much less Kashmir, or Egypt or Israel.
