Iraq bomber strikes U.S.-allied sheiks

After penetrating layers of security. Now how did he manage to do that? Might there have been some among the security personnel who sympathized with his jihad?

By Bushra Juhi for Associated Press:

BAGHDAD - A suicide bomber apparently targeting a meeting of U.S.-allied Sunni sheiks penetrated layers of security and blew himself up in a hotel lobby on Monday, killing four tribal leaders and at least eight others, police reported.

The sheiks were associated with the Anbar Salvation Council, which had taken up arms to help drive extremists of al-Qaida in Iraq from the western province of Anbar....

The bombing at the high-rise Mansour Hotel, on the west bank of the Tigris River in central Baghdad, struck at about noon as the lobby bustled with members of news media organizations headquartered at the hotel and other guests, witnesses said.

A man wearing a belt of explosives walked into the lobby, approached the group of sheiks meeting there, and detonated his bomb, said a police officer based at the hotel, who spoke on condition of anonymity.

He identified four tribal leaders killed as former Anbar governor Fassal al-Guood, sheik of the al-Bu Nimir tribe, Sheik Abdul-Azizi al-Fahdawi of the Fahad tribe, Sheik Tariq Saleh al-Assafi and Col. Fadil al-Nimrawi, both of the al-Bu Nimr tribe. Three of al-Guood's guards also were killed, the police officer said.

"It was a great breach of security because there are three checkpoints, one outside and two inside," said Saif al-Rubaie, a 28-year-old hotel worker who saw the blast.

This has got to be an inside job... I wonder if the security detail was also in on it...

"After penetrating layers of security. Now how did he manage to do that? Might there have been some among the security personnel who sympathized with his jihad?"

Hmmm. I'd say the prime suspects all had first names that start with 'M' and end with 'mad'.

Sounds like the security on our borders, Mr. President.

We don't have any credible security on our borders to penetrate!

...from now on, tele conferencing only...

Unfortunately this is a negative circumstance for us when potential allies are killed.

Part of Osama's playbook.

When he arranged the killing of our ally Afghani leader (Mansour?) in having the assasins pose as a two person camera crew.

There must be a way to get to Osama and remove him.

Ooops, sorry for re-iterating Mr. Spencer's comments in my last post. I went straight for the news article, and did not read Robert's comments until just now...

Cheers,

Bush "freedom" includes indulgence of terror incitement in mosques of occupied countries, while terror "hero" videotapes are sold openly in streets where US soldiers are sniped. Bush "freedom" means: indulgence, subsidization or maintenance of Islam grounded tyrannies in Asia, and importation of the perverse Muslim-disease into the West.

BUSH SURRENDER, Sept. 16, 2001 (Islamic Center, DC)

THE PRESIDENT: Thank you all very much for your hospitality. We've just had a -- wide-ranging discussions on the matter at hand. Like the good folks standing with me, the American people were appalled and outraged at last Tuesday's attacks. And so were Muslims all across the world. Both Americans and Muslim friends and citizens, tax-paying citizens, and Muslims in nations were just appalled and could not believe what we saw on our TV screens.

These acts of violence against innocents violate the fundamental tenets of the Islamic faith. And it's important for my fellow Americans to understand that.

The English translation is not as eloquent as the original Arabic, but let me quote from the Koran, itself: In the long run, evil in the extreme will be the end of those who do evil. For that they rejected the signs of Allah and held them up to ridicule.

The face of terror is not the true faith of Islam. That's not what Islam is all about. Islam is peace...

Another way to put it: those who live by the sword shall die by the sword.

How many suicide bombings did these sheikhs approve prior to turning against al Qaeda? How many coalition soldiers died at their hands or with their approval?

Questions: Who manned the checkpoints?
Where Americans are posted, are they supposed to defer to the Iraqis posted alongside them?
The lobby "bustled with news media". Where was al-Jazeera? Are they or any of the other Arab or Iranian news agencies missing a "reporter"?

This has got to be an inside job... I wonder if the security detail was also in on it...

Doctor Bulldog,

My thought too. How long will it take the Iraqis to say it was indeed an inside job - that the US killed all these tribal leaders in retaliation for their attacks on American soldiers in Anbar?

Just like Muslims (and some Democrats) said 9/11 was an inside job by Bush administration?

You know that, one way or another, the US will be blamed.

PMK

Isn't it more than just a "problem" with the check-points? Who was the "master mind" in bringing these leaders to Baghdad in the first place?? Why bring them to this hotel? Whose decision was that?? (yeah, let's get all the tribal leaders from Anbar province -- whom we've also advertised to all and sundry as being "allies of the U.S." together in one hotel, in Baghdad...yeah, brilliant.) Does the U.S. have any small inkling as to the nature of the enemy?? or are they completely delusional?

Ditto for CNN and all other major media outlets.

That's one way to end a meeting with a real bang alright; it's all dumb luck -- just a lucky shot.

After all, people walk around all the time with bomb belts; it could have happened anywhere.

The tide is turning against al queda.

supercargo-

Exactly.

It's dangerous when a fool presumes to tell you about someone else's religious beliefs ...especially ones that he never bothered to study, himself.

Bitten by his own stuptifyingly stupid sound bite.

Ah yes, another of those unsolvable mysteries for the Pentagon geniuses. Like last week's conundrum: Why did 80% of the al queda senior jihadists suddenly decide to high-tail it just hours before the U.S. conducted raids on their safe houses in Barquba? When only those muslims "on our side" knew of the plans? Must have been allah's will, right?

A little bird told them to skedaddle.

"Inside Job"? Not really. Just self preservation at work by those manning the checkpoints. If you were manning a security check point would you want to discover and then confront the bomber and run the risk of being blown up? The guards probably just give the bomber a pass, take an early lunch break and live to see another day.

Assalamau Laikum all,

The US has to take some of the blame for this tradegy. It was your inititative...and IMHO one of your better ideas...and it should have been secured by you.

At the end of the day...although many of the dead can no longer sheik a leg...the real losers are the amerike.

supercargo,

The face of terror is not the true faith of Islam. That's not what Islam is all about. Islam is peace...

They sure try to get a lot of mileage out of that 3% peace, don't they? lol

Naseem,

...although many of the dead can no longer sheik a leg...

lol lol

Naseem, you laugh at your fallen "brethren" who can "no longer sheik a leg"? You think this is funny? you're sick, incredibly sick.

Naseem,
Are you saying Iraqis can't run their own country? Then we really DO need to occupy it, don't we?
