I think you had better think twice. Islam is on the decline in lots of places. Nigeria for example, Christianity has been growing with over 40 million Christians now matching the Muslims population, and the majority of them are converts.
Whereever people are free to choose, the majority of people do not choose Islam but something else. Many countries with majority Muslim populations face the same fate as freedom begins to make its presence felt. People wish to determine their own destiny and so you can't put the toothpaste back in the tube. Eventually places like Malaysia, Indonesia, etc will see their muslim populations decline as they are exposed to freedom, competition in the free exchange of ideas and the exposure to Enlightenment critiques of religion, which Islam has never faced. When was the last time you saw a sheik reading David Hume or Immanuel Kant?
The fact is that Islam simply can't compete intellectually with contemporary Western philosophy. Al-Farabi or Ibn Sina aren't exactly up to date.

Elias, my heart goes out to you. Just yesterday I had a conversation with a sweet mid-twenties aged girl who is Vice President of a company I do business with. We were having lunch, a group of professional women, but it wasn't all business. I ordered some Baklava and offered to share it with everyone and this girl, who I'll call Sara, said, ooh, no thanks, they had that stuff around her house all the time and she couldn't stand it. I then asked her where she was from and she said that her family is Assyrian. I said, oh, Assyrian Christians? And she looked sheepish and said, well, no, and she hemmed and hawed and finally blurted out that she had been Christian but that she had recently become a Muslim. I kept my composure but I'll tell you I was in concerned, because this girl is very intelligent, articulate and runs the show in her office. She is not the type to stay home, barefoot and pregnant. She went on to explain that she did it for her boyfirend but that he wasn't one of "those" kind of Muslims. She said he and she still drink all the time and they eat pork , but, yeah, she's read the Koran and it's all good. I did not get into it, especially since a bleeding heart Muslim sympathizer who I've argued with before on this subject was sitting between us. But I could tell that Sara was embarassed a little bit and I kept thinking, it's because her mother doesn't know. I also kept thinking, whatever you do, don't go back to the ME or you'll find out just what happens when you run an important office,or drink a beer or have a pulled pork sandwich.
Honestly, Elias, that is the thing I cannot figure out. If anyone ever really truly knew Jesus, how could they abandon Him for Islam? I thought about this long and hard regarding Sara yesterday. I think you had better think twice. Islam is on the decline in lots of places. Nigeria for example, Christianity has been growing with over 40 million Christians now matching the Muslims population, and the majority of them are converts.
Whereever people are free to choose, the majority of people do not choose Islam but something else. Many countries with majority Muslim populations face the same fate as freedom begins to make its presence felt. People wish to determine their own destiny and so you can't put the toothpaste back in the tube. Eventually places like Malaysia, Indonesia, etc will see their muslim populations decline as they are exposed to freedom, competition in the free exchange of ideas and the exposure to Enlightenment critiques of religion, which Islam has never faced. When was the last time you saw a sheik reading David Hume or Immanuel Kant?
The fact is that Islam simply can't compete intellectually with contemporary Western philosophy. Al-Farabi or Ibn Sina aren't exactly up to date.
And it doesn't exactly speak well of Islam that you boast of the longterm slaughter of the Roman empire (Byzantium). The fact that such "consversions" came at the point of slavery or death isn't exactly something to boast of but rather indicates the obviously immoral nature of your religion.
If it makes you feel any better as a university instructor, I am responsible for a handful of people leaving Islam.

I'm not so sure this is true. I think Westerners have had a lot of what matters cut off from them by a corrupt government and from socialist nanny-staters who want us to all be kiddies in a new Eden they control.
The self-gratification is done more to alievate the boredom resulting from having real options cut off, and it isn't worse than what goes one elsewhere in the world, just more open.

Nice post, I could not agree more about Bush. He's no more a Christian than I am a Hindu. Bush used Christianity to lull the Bible Belt voters. I believe God hates this kind of thing more than somebody leaving the Church altogether. Bush is the Republican version of Jimmy Carter. We Americans will be paying the price for his fumbling for generations. We are hemoraging our wealth to people that hate our guts while our infrastructure crumbles. Elias, my heart goes out to you. Just yesterday I had a conversation with a sweet mid-twenties aged girl who is Vice President of a company I do business with. We were having lunch, a group of professional women, but it wasn't all business. I ordered some Baklava and offered to share it with everyone and this girl, who I'll call Sara, said, ooh, no thanks, they had that stuff around her house all the time and she couldn't stand it. I then asked her where she was from and she said that her family is Assyrian. I said, oh, Assyrian Christians? And she looked sheepish and said, well, no, and she hemmed and hawed and finally blurted out that she had been Christian but that she had recently become a Muslim. I kept my composure but I'll tell you I was in concerned, because this girl is very intelligent, articulate and runs the show in her office. She is not the type to stay home, barefoot and pregnant. She went on to explain that she did it for her boyfirend but that he wasn't one of "those" kind of Muslims. She said he and she still drink all the time and they eat pork , but, yeah, she's read the Koran and it's all good. I did not get into it, especially since a bleeding heart Muslim sympathizer who I've argued with before on this subject was sitting between us. But I could tell that Sara was embarassed a little bit and I kept thinking, it's because her mother doesn't know. I also kept thinking, whatever you do, don't go back to the ME or you'll find out just what happens when you run an important office,or drink a beer or have a pulled pork sandwich.
I am praying for her, as I am for you, my friend.
Honestly, Elias, that is the thing I cannot figure out. If anyone ever really truly knew Jesus, how could they abandon Him for Islam? I thought about this long and hard regarding Sara yesterday. But then it dawned on me, she must have never had any faith so there wasn't anything to lose. And the way she talked about it was like it was no big deal, but now that you've said what you have about disowning I'm positive her family knows nothing about it. But I like this girl and she's worth saving.
I am totally with you on the not being welcome thing. Look at what we've got in America now that we've welcomed the Muslims into our country. They are working tooth and toenail to use our laws against us, just like Brigitte Gabriel points out happened in Lebanon in her book, "Because they hate." It is totally acceptable to have an agreement about how you would like to run your society and then stick to that agreement. It may not be tolerant, (I hate that stupid, deceptive word,) but it is charitable. It is not charitable to invite in a Trojan horse that will destroy your culture, religious beliefs and ultimately, your families' lives.

Well, we're not all that dumb. But I do recognize that it's easier to be a Christian in America or Europe than where you live, although people here in America are becoming increasingly nastier when it comes to what we Christians think or do, and it's a concern. It is so different than it was, even ten years ago. I can't tell you how sick I am of peole rewriting history around here and acting like nobody was Christian when America broke away from England. That's all wishful thinking, nothing more, but so many people are in agreement about it that some days I find myself questioning which way is up!!?!
I believe my own eyes though, and I can see just how dangerous it is to live over in the Holy Land and the Middle East by the myriad of articles, pictures, stories and videos of the atrocities Muslims commit with seeming impunity. And I've had first hand experience with past clients who are Muslim (none in the present or future, thank you,) and I've seen first hand how they bully people and expect to get their way. I just wasn't brought up that way and I get really irritable and people know about it when someone takes advantage of another person that way. One time a Muslim couple reduced a friend and client of mine to tears, all in an effort to get their way. When the transaction was completed, the Muslim wife came up to give my friend a hug and my friend thought, get the hell off of me. You don't get to treat me like garbage and then come up and act like we're good friends. It doesn't work that way. And if I hear one more time, oh, that's just their culture, I'm going to slap someone! If that's their culture then they need to change it because it sucks.
Now Naseem, before you get the drizzles in joyful anticipation of enslaving yet another woman and inducting her into your bad joke of a cult, read what I said. She eats pork. She drinks booze and I'm sure she probably has sex too and she's not married. And the way she talked about becoming a Muslim was in the same way that I would tell you I just got a new library card, like it wasn't any big deal. I am not embarrased being a muslima at all...in fact I think I am lucky that Allah SWT has bestowed his mercy upon me.
Being a wuslim is a special privilidge ...I do skip a sura and don't do some of the things that sunni & shia do...but then I am comfortable with my compromised version of Islam.
Elias says that there would have been about 22 million Assiryian christians with only about 2 million left...well the majority of them will have joined Islam...that's the strength of Islam and those former assyrians (now probably kurds) know this.
As for speaking to Sara...please keep me informed as to how you get on...I think you'll find that her faith in Islam is a lot stronger than you think....infact I hope you get inspiration from her to convert too.

Yeah, I can see how you would interpret that as being strong in her faith.
Don't hold your breath about me converting. I'm not giving up Jesus Christ for the vanquished one. (See The Passion of the Christ. There is a scene where Allah is screaming at the end of the movie.) Anyway, someone's got to pray for your soul and I do so at the consecration, every Sunday. I pray for you and Abdullah and the conversion of the lost Muslim people.
