So in response to said award to bin laden, should we be doing somthing to "celebrate" like, I don't know, burn a pakistani flag (or embassy), hang bin laden in effigy (since we can't find the real thing)? Maybe a poster of sir Salman and a sign that reads "behead those that insult Sir Salman"?

This would be my first seethefest so a little guidance from veteran seethers would be a big help.

At a more naive time in my life (like, 24 hours ago), I would have thought this award would go to a recipient because he did some good scholarship or something crazy like that.

But, no. It's just an attempt to annoy those whom the prize committee blames for their own bottomless frustration and the failures of their society.

I hope future recipients will appreciate just exactly how much their effor at legitimate scholarship is being recognized when they get this award.

My most immediate thought on how to respond to this is to go to my favorite gun dealer and buy another thousand rounds of .223 for my AR-15. The danger is real and is clearly all around us.
If this is what the most revered of this "religions" spiritual leaders have to offer...then I truly believe we must prepare for war.

Why didn't the Islamic scholars honor Tashbih Sayyed? He was a moderate Muslim who stood up and said that Islam should not be used to justify violence. That's honorable isn't it? That's worthy of accolades and praise, right?

Why didn't they honor Ayaan Hirsi Ali, who said that Islam must be reformed to end its religiously justified violence. You'd think the vast majority of moderates would be lining up behind her, shouting "You tell 'em, Ayaan!". They're lining up alright, but not behind her; and they're yelling very loudly, but their message is not one of moderation.

There are moderate Muslims and former-Muslims who have claimed that Islam is peaceful and that it is only being "hijacked" and "twisted" by a few misguided extremists. Why do the Islamic scholars put out fatwas calling for the murder of those moderate Muslims in the guise of blasphemy, and then give honors to Osama Bin Laden?

How can we not draw conclusions from that?

One must understand that these Muslim scholars are indeed true religious scholars, whose understanding of Islam is orthodox and thoroughly grounded in Islam's core beliefs and precepts, and whose actions are in accordance with these beliefs. We must continually remind ourselves of the following:

1. Islam obliges all members of the Umma to wage war against the infidel world, until the entire globe is under the sway of Islam and Shari'a law reigns supreme. Thus, all believing Muslims should be regarded as warriors, members of an advancing, inexorable army. To confer upon bin Laden, who has so distinguished himself by orchestrating the assault on infidel America, the title of "sword of Allah" is perfectly appropriate, as he has acted as a soldier of Allah should. Furthermore, he followed the proper protocol before attacking, the protocol followed by the Prophet himself, as he "invited" America to convert to Islam before attacking, forbearing to do so until it was clear that American would not acquiesce.

2. Islam, as the final revelation of Allah, supersedes all previous scripturally-based religions. It is a perfect religion, and the Koran must be accepted as the direct, uncorrupted word of Allah, fleshed out and clarified by Hadith and Sira. To criticize or reject any aspect of Islam, including the view that Muhammed is the Perfect Man, is to apostasize, and the penalty for apostasy is death. Thus, Rushdie, having questioned the inviolability of Muslim dogma, has apostasized. The fatwa sentencing him to death is entirely in keeping with orthodox Muslim jurisprudence. It is fully justified.

3. The only legitimate state is that which is based upon Shari'a law, which is Allah's law. Infidel England, with its constitutional monarchy, has no legitimacy for Muslims. And for the infidel sovereign of an infidel government to ennoble an apostate Muslim, and provide him sanctuary and protection from the fatwa issued against him calling for his rightful death, constitutes a grave insult to Islam, and is viewed additionally as an act which defies Islam since it prevents the implementation of Shari'a law; the sentence cannot be carried out. And that means that the advancement of Islam is being blocked, an act that cannot be tolerated, and must be avenged. It is Darura (necessity) that prevents full-scale war from being waged by the righteous members of the Umma against England, for England, alas, is too strong at this time for such a war from being successful. But there will and must be a future reckoning, as Muslims do not forget. And Rushdie, by accepting the knighthood from the infidel state of England, has once again apostasized, as he, by his acceptance, upholds and legitimizes the infidel, man-made government of this state. Is there any doubt that this man is a traitor to Islam, and deserving of death?

4. Muslims who are embarrassed or discomfited by all of this are not True Believers, but are in fact heterodox. Whether due to ignorance of Islam's core beliefs, or indifference, the secular members of Islam do not have a theological or juridical leg to stand on. For Islam is what it is, and the secular Muslims don't, in fact, count. They don't matter.

Remember what Ibn Warraq said: "There are moderate Muslims, but Islam itself is not moderate."

Where are the formal protests by our US government at this Sword of Allah “honor” for bin Laden, tolerated by the Pakistani government, with clear calls for violence by at least one of its ministers? After all, bin Laden murdered over three thousand Americans on 9/11 and hundreds of Americans before.
