NAHR EL-BARED, Lebanon -- Heavily armed foreign jihadists have been entering Lebanon from Syria from around the time Western authorities noticed a drop in the infiltration of foreign fighters from Syria to Iraq, Lebanese officials say.Syrian authorities, hoping to disrupt Lebanon so they can reassert control of the country, "have stopped sending [the jihadists] to Iraq and are now sending them here," charged Mohammed Salam, a specialist in Palestinian affairs in Lebanon. "They sent those people to die in Lebanon."
Maj. Gen. Ashraf Rifi, commander of Lebanon's Internal Security Forces, said about half of the militants who have been battling Lebanese forces in the Nahr el-Bared refugee camp outside Tripoli for nine days had fought previously in Iraq.
"They are very dangerous," he said in an interview. "We have no choice, we have to combat them."
Better send Diane Sawyer and Pelosi to have a good talk with Syria, you know how well that helps.
W. said he would go after those countries that aid and abet and train terrorists. Not only has Syria done so (along with Iran) but against OUR OWN TROOPS. Syria's meddling in Lebanon is viciously destructive and self-serving.
Come to think of it if Bush were to strictly adhere to his stated policy, the U.S. should attack Israel for directly aiding the murderous Abbas.
Could Syria have been bought off. After thay pulled out of Lebanon, we might have been able to detach them from Iran. The price would have been high, but it would have been too high?
I guess these jihadists are just a roving bunch of mercinaries, going wherever, Iran-Syria tell them to go, and killing whoever Iran-Syria tell them to.
It looks like the cesspool is in Syria-Iran. If you really want to get rid of mosquitos, you have to drain or poison, the pond they are hatching from.
A great deal of this is an attempt to distract from the impending tribunal hearings into the assassination of Former President Harrarri. The battles at the Nahr al-Bared Camp is intensifying everyday if not every hour. Lebanon now has to be concerned with other fronts being established by Syria, and Iran's proxy jihadist army Hezbollah. The US is sending in ammunition supplies at a steady rate to the Lebanese Army, US destroyers are pounding Al-Qaeda Camps around Somalia--but of course the war on terrorism is just a bumper sticker.
duh - Yeah, it would be the thing to do. And, BTW, it won't hurt our rep in the world to just go ahead and be the bastards they think we are anyway. Drain swamp, kill the gators & make leather goods is the right paradigm I believe.
poet - Yeah, but when is Pres. Jorge Arbusto or as he affectionately known in other places Pres. Spineless George going to ever do what he says he would do? Hell, he wants to give the SW US back to the reconquista crowd - MECHA and La Raza. And that comment about Israel is just dumb.
So, there are areas that need addressing, open borders need to be closed down before you can control the bad guys coming into your country. Applies to Iraq, Lebanon and the US. All need to control the borders to control the bad actors but I do not see it happening. Makes one wonder, it does.

Why weren't the Lebanese incensed about "foreign occupation" in all the time Syria ruled? Could it be that Islamic rule (meaning a Muslim ruler, not necessarily Sharia law) is not "occupation"?
Iran and Syria are using jihadists as un-uniformed soldiers. When they go across a border and attack, it is an act of war, not by Allah, but by the rulers of the country that sent them. When the un-uniformed attackers in Iraq kill US/coalition soldiers, it is no different than uniformed soldiers attacking them. In the case of this enemy, no uniform, 'is' the uniform. Iran is sending its soldiers to kill Americans, all acts of war, indivdually or collectivly, and we are determined to go the diplomatic route, and 'talk' to them.
Bush supporters are deserting him, because his administration gets shttier, and shttier, by the hour. HE gets shttier and shttier by the hour.
I wish Bush would quit making Michael Moore right, now 'thats' disgusting...
Declare being "out of Uniform" as being "In Uniform". This way the Civilian Death Count will fall dramatically.
