Olmert admits defeat, and tells the residents of Sderot to get used to jihad attacks. When has the leader of a nation ever spoken this way? The sooner the Israelis get a new Prime Minister, the better.
By Hana Levi Julian for Israel National News (thanks to WriterMom):
(IsraelNN.com) Prime Minister Ehud Olmert warned in a speech at the annual Caesarea Conference Thursday night that Sderot residents should not expect to be completely protected against Kassam rocket attacks fired at the town from northern Gaza. The Prime Minister declared that his government cannot offer reinforced rooftops for every edifice within rocket range, saying: "A country cannot protect itself ad infinitum, because there would be no end to it."
He added that providing rocket-proof structures to all the city’s beleaguered residents who have suffered continuous rocket attacks for seven years, would come at the expense of the security establishment's operational needs.
The Prime Minister also took a swipe at the media and said it should not "encourage, even mutely, demands of citizens that no normal government could accept."
Stom ta jora Olmert. Ma nisrat lech bamoch?
"A country cannot protect itself ad infinitum, because there would be no end to it." -- Olmert
There IS no end to it, you fatuous moron.
It is a sovereign country's continuous responsibility to protect its citizens against attack. There is no more important national task.
You're fired. Or would be, if sane Israelis prevailed.

How do you combat Islamic suicide bombers;
Since the Islamic bomber is dead you need to do something that will discourage others from taking/following in its footsteps and/or encourage their neighbors to stop others from doing these acts.
Also since you don't normally have an exact location of their base to destroy and it seems force is the only message that is heard in the Islamic world, what to do?
How about a lottery of escalating proportions and diminishing timeframes?
In the case of Israel and Gaza, Israel should place a grid on Gaza the size of which correlates to the blast damage of one of their medium sized bombs, say a 500lb device.
When the first rocket from Gaza hits its arbitrary location in Israel, Israel pulls the first random lottery grid number and gives 24 hours notice for people to get out of blast range. If a second rocket hits draw two numbers and give 12 hours notice, third gets 4 numbers and 6 hours, forth 8 and 3, fifth 16 and 90 minutes, sixth 32 and 45, etc.
For each week that goes by with no attacks back the numbers off one click to encourage the absence of attacks.
Have it all televised with before and after photos, with the advance notice there should be minimal loss of life but it would spur the populace to rein in these people who commit these crimes.

Go to hell, Olmert! Get out of the way and let others, who are suitable to lead, do their job.
(No Hebrew transliterations were harmed in the production of this post).
A country cannot protect itself ad infinitum, because there would be no end to it."
Then the point of having a country is...what?
So then, the Jews are going to pack their bags again and go where? To another ghetto? To the ovens? Where?
Olmert is sounding more and more like george bush every day -- "can't protect the citizens;" "can't protect the borders;" "can't do "...anything really.
Well perhaps these people CAN do something; take everyone elses money and either keep it for themselves or redistribute it to organized murderers.
Better yet, maybe Olmer and bush should just take a hike!
That the leader of a country under constant threat of destruction from it's "neighbors" like Israel is could hold such a view is mind boggling. The Israeli Parliament should hold a no-confidence vote NOW! They cannot afford to have this idiot as Prime Minister one second longer.
Ehud Olmert is the Manchurian (er, Islamic) Candidate.
"The Prime Minister also took a swipe at the media and said it should not "encourage, even mutely, demands of citizens that no normal government could accept."
Well, no , you can't reinforce every rooftop within rocket range, but that's not the only idea out there...
From the linked article:
"Olmert did not relate to the oft-repeated demand of residents to lead a comprehensive military offensive into Gaza to crush the terrorist infrastructure as was done in Judea and Samaria in Operation Defense Shield in 2002"
He makes a show of throwing out an unworkable idea, and ignores the obvious good idea.
(and how can the media encourage anything mutely?..what does that actually mean?)
arm the citizens of Sderot with their own rockets...every time rockets fly in from Gaza...the citizens of Sderot unleash their own rockets in reply....
...I suspect the Israeli rocketeers could actually hit something.....
Does Isreal have an impeachment process?
Betrayal of a government's primary responsibility to the nation it serves. Go NOW.
Olmert speaks like a cartoon character
Israel needs a NO CONFIDENCE VOTE NOW!!!
Bibi where are you?
How long will it take to get Netanyahu back in power?
Answer: Same as the time it takes for another serioius attack on Israel by any of her enemies--Fatah (though Israel is now kowing to the clan of Arafat/Abbas), Hamas, Hizbollah from whichever country(s) they stage the attack(s).
Prediction: Before this fall--the EU, the USA, and UN will all jam Israel to "make peace" with these enemies based on a presence of useless UN troops in the region.
"A country cannot protect itself ad infinitum, because there would be no end to it."
-- from Olmert's speech above
Which is worse? The offense to English, or the offense to common sense?
Israel not only can, but must, protect itself, as Olmert awkwardly and incorrectly put it, "ad infinitum" -- and the idea that it is an outrageous demand by citizens that the state protect it from unceasing bombardment is itself outrageous. It can do so, but it can do so best if it recognizes clearly that what it faces is not "Palestinian" nationalism but a Lesser Jihad, by Arabs. And by other Muslim states as well, to the precise degree that the peoples of those states have no other identity, and wish to be as "Arab" in their lineage and outlook as they can: see Pakistan. In a few cases -- Kemalist Turkey, and Iran under the Shah -- some Muslim regimes were able to cultivate relations with Israel, not least where the population was contemptuous of the Arabs, as is true in Turkey and Iran. But the war on Israel is indeed a war on an Infidel polity, on land once in Muslim hands, and the very idea that non-Muslims, even if they were there first, even if the land had been left in desoltation and ruin by its various Muslim overlords, even if it was well on the way to being depopulated (see the evidence supplied by Western travellers to the Holy Land in the mid-19th century) until Jewish settlers revived it, the land still must be again in Muslim control.
Once this is clearly grasped, and not only by a group of scholars of Islam, but by the main figures in the Israeli government, and by the entirely inadequate Israeli media, and once it is further grasped that all negotiations that lead to all treaties are pointless because, given that Muslim jurisprudence regulating treaties with Infidels is clearly, unambiguously based on the Treaty of Al-Hudaibiyya in 628 A.D. (see Majid Khadduri, "Law of War and Peace in Islam") then, and only then, will the farcical "peace processes" be stopped, or no longer taken seriously, and the only way for Israel to protect itself and, not incidentally, to make war lessz likely, is through recognition that only "Darura" or Necessity -- the necessity of holding back because one is too weak and the enemy too strong -- will prevent the Arabs from again massing for attack.
And only when all of the instruments of Jihad -- of the Lesser Jihad (or, more accurately, one of the many Lesser Jihads), that against Israel and that Greater Jihad which is merely the sum of all the local Jihads -- are recognized -- the Money Weapon, Da'wa, and demographic conquest (with different effectiveness and importance in different theatres of the Jihad-war), and finally, when it is understood that Isarel cannot and should not yield any further, for a glance at the map tells one - and tells the Arabs and Muslims -- why. For if the size of Israel makes no difference to the Jihad condcuted against it (Israel could be ten times as large, or one-tenth as large, as it now is, and it would not matter), then Israel must think only of how best to deter, how best to force the Arab states to invoke "Darura."
And so too must those Infidels outside of Israel -- for whatever measures Israel feels compelled to take are not different from what, on a possibly different time-line, the nations of Western Europe will have to consider.
Jihad is guerre a outrance. Every "peace" treaty is in reality a "truce" treaty; hudnas are supposed to last ten years (though they may be "re-newed").
Read Khadduri. Read Antoine Fattal. Read Schacht, and Snouck Hurgronje. You'll have to educate yourself, I'm afraid -- for Muslim apologists, and their non-Muslim collaborators -- have steadily taken over many academic departments, all over the West, and with smiles and guiles and ostentatious expressions of being "interested" in the students -- those chicken-and-pita dinners, that deep interest in those students, that they might "discover the truth about Islam, behind all the fables, and the stereotypes" -- well, what do you expect the American young, aged 18 to 22, to do? They know no better -- how could they?
So auto-didacticism is now the great national undertakinig -- or should be.
Don't reinforce endless roofs, kill the rocket launching lunatics.
End them.
That's how you end attacks.
No jihadis, no problem.
Olmert should study some American Football. Where everyone knows the best Defense is a good Offense.
Is Olmert really the problem or are the Israeli's just unwilling to respond Offensively?
A major Military Operation against any one adversary in the region is likely to incite all the others to join in.
Where is Israel going with the MSM blaming them for the war while expecting them to fight it with "proportional" force.
Israel will be hit with indirect fire from every direction under the Sun from every Rocket the opposition can launch while Israel will be haunted in the press every time their precision weapons go off.
UNIFL, caught in the Kill Zone, will run away with the EU screaming bloody murder. The UN will demand a cease fire if Israel is seen to be winning. While the US twists in the wind trying to support the "aggressor".
It will be irrelevant to the Media in it's reporting that Israel is conducting operations against entities who openly declare their desire to destroy them.
Israel is forced to play the Game of "nice" until such time as its opponents do something justifying a major counter operation.
The Media has already created the conditions where Israel is just expected to absorb these sporadic Rocket attacks as it is. Even Major operations after another Kidnapping could be hard to justify given the general outcome the last time. It created the term "Disproportional Force". Hardly the Baggage a Military Operation needs to be conducted under.
Sad that appearing right means more than being right.
Look over here and realize that Bibi is not the answer.
(I nearly spilled my coffee reading this headline)
What a cripple! I've heard of poor leadership, but this goes BEYOND poor! Olmert has no business being at the helm of a country like Israel. They need a tiger, and he isn't even a pussy-cat -- he's more like a worm.
With leadership like this more lives are going to be lost; and with friends like Olmert, who needs enemies.
The citizens of Sdrerot need to arm themselves and attack the Gaza Strip every time they are attacked and impose a stern price over the palestinians.
They need to do it together so, if their government crack down on them, they will need to arrest hundreds of people and risk armed confrontation with their citizens.
If the government is unable to defend them, it is their duty to defend themselves. And if the government try to prevent them, is their duty to oppose the government.
Oh, Bibi! What ARE you thinking?
"A country cannot protect itself ad infinitum, because there would be no end to it."
Hey, that sharp Prime Minister Ehud Olmert doesn’t miss a tautology does he? Here’s another one for him:
If death-cult Muslims determined to kill you live nearby with weapons and you don’t destroy them outright, then you will always be living with a group of Muslims nearby trying to kill you.
Now if only he could do inferences.
Shy Guy
I had been an avid fan of Bibi for the last 10 years. Thanks for ridding me of one of the few statesmen that I admired. :-(
Actually, looking at Silvan Shalom's comments about the age of the Badr Brigade members being the problem, looks like Likud itself is unfit to lead. Maybe we should look to Avigdor Lieberman - a better Lieberman than Joe.
It's depressing Ad Infinitum.
Greetings:
The is what happens when you elect a mayor to chief executive.
National defense is not filling potholes.
(With apologies to Guiliani and Bloomberg.)
Olmert is looking for the Harry Reid award.
If Olmert does not believe that the Israeli Government can provide security for its people, he needs to stand down at once and make room for someone else who feels confident that she/he is up to the task.
Oh, Bibi! What ARE you thinking?

Last time I looked Netanyahu was for the "two" party state, and his history is also full of caving to the US Presidnet (Clinton) and the State Dept. to give up "more land" for "peace"...Bibi is NOT the answer. His IS a politician first.
Cosmic String,
Excellent suggestion. Let them know in advance the reaction they will get. Then let them choose between peace and war.
It's what I wish we could do for the larger Muslim world. Present a list of cities and let them know we will pick one to destroy. They won't know which one until the missiles and bombs fly. They can consider it their "reward" if we ever are faced with another 9/11. A couple on the list have to mean something - like Mecca and Tehran.
As for Olmert:
Maybe he was clumsy with his words but I sort of get what he was saying. If the Israelis aren't willing to destroy their enemy they can't expect to be protected. Haven't too many Israelis chosen peace at any price? It may be the price is continued rocket attacks. Until the people decide that is unacceptable and they are willing to do what is necessary to stop it, what is the government supposed to do?

Good plan, just make sure that Qom is near the top of the list.
Not to defend him but what is a guy to do when you have no support?
How does the U.N. help,by condemning them for defending themselves?
They prove thier desire for peace everyday.
They prove they are not the instigators of all the BS everyday.
If or when they attack they are the ones to catch the condemnations, not the ones provokoing them.
Hey if it were me and i knew i would have the war crimes and crimes against humanity charges no matter what i did. This would be a diggerent conversation.
Possibly the only fault i see is all Israelie leaders past and present have done too much of what the American leadership have wanted.Like they even know or understand the problem in the first place.
This eternal conflict should be the wests first clue of what islam and muslims are and it isn't.Hasn't even rang a bell.
The only thing thats registered with those dog piles in washington are the soon to be new Illegal alien citizens,of which only God knows the true number.I am willing to bet anything it's more than 12 million.
If the fools still think it's only a "few extremists" in the islamic problem than the low number of 12 million for the Illegal Alien problem is probably a farce.
Isn't this treason? Why is he still in power? Does he have any suggestions as to what to do when you give up defense in the face of so much danger? I keep seeing the news about that guy and it's just getting more and more unreal.
I heard a rumor that Olmert was going to resign? Is this true?
Boy I tell you what Israelis will be at the dentist on mass.................... mashing there teeth!!!
Manhigut Yehudit.
I'm sorry to be the one to tell you but strike two.
I repeat: Manhigut Yehudit.
