Pakistan's soldiers 'huddling in their bases' in tribal regions

Paralyzed by the Taliban threat, and/or secretly aiding the jihadists.

Friend and Ally Update. By Declan Walsh in The Guardian (thanks to John):

The Pakistani army is paralysed by the growing Taliban threat and some retired officers are covertly aiding the militants, according to a former CIA officer.

Soldiers posted to Waziristan, a tribal area that hosts an estimated 2,000 al-Qaida fighters, are "huddling in their bases, doing nothing", said Art Keller, a CIA case officer who was posted to Pakistan last year.

"Their approach was to pretend that nothing was wrong because any other approach would reveal that they were unwilling and unable to do anything about Talibanisation," said Mr Keller, who has visited Waziristan.

Don't we all feel safe with them guarding Pakistan's Nukes?

What nukes??

Naseem has often advocated jilbabs here. These 'soldiers' (and I use the term as loosely as the original article) sound like good candidates to be fitted for them - head to toe.

If Musharraf - 'our staunch ally®' - falls, maybe a good idea would be to annex Pakistan to Afghanistan, and make Hamid Karzai responsible for not only Afghanistan, but Pakistan as well. It's not like he's doing such a bang up job in Kabul, so why not add Pakistan to his area of coverage?

Gee, that sounds like our government's approach in dealing with jihad: Deny that there is a problem with the RoP, attack a few insignificant players on the sidelines to create the appearance of doing something, meanwhile send aid to the jihadists in the hopes of winning their hearts and minds.

I'm glad that someone, anyone, in the CIA is aware in some way of Talibanisation (aka. jihad).

They are doing exactly what we thought they were doing....nothing. I mean, not doing what Mushy was saying.

ex CIA is probably part of the "shadow government" with clinton holdovers, they put the blame on Libby for outing supposed important cia person in hidding, aka valerie the blonde bimbo you see on all the covers. so much bs going around the beltway.

Rumor has it that there are some emergent openings for Christian leaders in Iraq. The new Country of Hamastan is absolutely virgin territory, awaiting the introduction of the teachings of Jesus. The tribal regions of Pakistan could also use some comparative religion training.

To further the cause of mutual understanding and respect between the world’s great religions, perhaps some people should spend their time introducing our Muslim friends to the Christian faith instead of calling people names.

forty or fity navy bombers would quickly take care of the talli in pakiland......... but bush is not prez enough to do it........

Ya gotta love 'em, more 'good' news from another of our 'friendly' allies. WAD unless more people wake up.

"huddling in their bases, doing nothing"

Hey -- maybe these are Moderate Muslims.

These are the true 'Muslim Warriors' no civilians and children to hide behind no cowardly roadside bombs to deploy so lets all hide.

"Our staunch ally" indeed.

Bush certainly picks 'em.
