Rushdie knighthood 'justifies suicide attacks', claims Pakistani minister

The "biggest evil of the world." Worse than 9/11. Worse than 7/7

An update on this story. Not just Iran is angry, but at least some in our Friend and Ally Pakistan. And they're calling for blood.

From the Daily Mail, with thanks to all who sent this in:

Salman Rushdie's knighthood was condemned by a Pakistani minister today as an affront to Muslims which would justify suicide attacks.

Religious affairs minister Mohammed Ijaz ul-Haq reportedly told the parliament in Islamabad: "This is an occasion for the (world's) 1.5 billion Muslims to look at the seriousness of this decision.

"The West is accusing Muslims of extremism and terrorism.

"If someone exploded a bomb on his body he would be right to do so unless the British Government apologises and withdraws the 'Sir' title."

Later, the remarks were said to have been denied by the minister concerned....

In Pakistan today Muslim students burned effigies of Queen Elizabeth II and Rushdie as the author's knighthood continued to cause outrage.

In the eastern city of Multan about 100 students set fire to the effigies and carried banners condemning the author while chanting "Kill him! Kill him!"

Also today Pakistani lawmakers passed a government-backed resolution demanding Britain withdraw the honour which they insist is an insult to the religious sentiments of Muslims.

I guess Townee thought the fatwa heat had cooled, huh?

Always angry, always enraged, always burning shiite in the streets - don' t they ever ever tire of it?

The West is accusing Muslims of extremism and terrorism

Uh, yeah, right - I think you'll find it's the geezers in the beards, burning shiite in the streets because, uh, someone, somewhere wrote a book, the content of which they have no idea of, who are 'accusing' muslims of extremism, and quite well.

""The West is accusing Muslims of extremism and terrorism.

"If someone exploded a bomb on his body he would be right to do so...""

Erm...

Presumably ul-haq's self-righteous peacefulness caused this little faux-pas?

Also today Pakistani lawmakers passed a government-backed resolution demanding Britain withdraw the honour which they insist is an insult to the religious sentiments of Muslims.

That seems about par for the course along with all the other rubbish, it should be interesting to see how long it takes them before they start demonstrating in London. I should think Friday after visiting the Mosque in Regents park we will see long lines of black bin liners and pajama clad followers of the religion of peace marching through Londonistan to the Houses of parliament for a peacefully demonstration. There is nothing like cultural enrichment, unless it is there culture that is being enriched.

Will these insults and humiliations to the Muslim faithful ever end !!!?

Answer: Hell No! This cult is too much a bloody joke!

Rushdie in his book essentially exposes the obvious phoniness of Muhammad for which they can’t forgive him. In his Satanic Verses Rushdie, a former Muslim, essentially admits the most likely scenario in which the con-man Muhammad, in an attempt to woo the Mecca pagans stubbornly attached to their pet gods into submission, has Allah giving clear recognition to three of their favorite deities via these versus. The ploy didn’t work so he has to later lamely claim that it was all just a Satan trick (presumably while Allah wasn’t looking) so forget it.

This knighthood is really more of an affront that those silly little Muhammad cartoons so beware the coming insanity.

As if on Satanic batteries this brainless cult just keeps on killing & killing.

Now about that forthcoming meeting of NATO-minus-Turkey ministers to discuss "new security threats to the West" and to which Ayaan Hirsi Ali and Ibn Warraq and Wafa Sultan are to be invited...

Something just occurred to me about the Muslims' claim to numbering 1.5 billion: they can't count that high.

Violence, Violence, Violence! That's the answer

Apologies ,Apologies, apologies say the most blood thirsty Religious fanatics the world has ever known? Muslims insult and desecrate and murder at whim and get away with it every single damn day! yet demand we apologise for just about everything we do even down to existing. i'm actually really tired of it all. I really wish these people would look around themselves, look at the toilets they call their homes, look at the state of THEIR own affairs and point the finger at the right people for once. Islam is an Evil envious , jealous cult that simply hates evreryone and anything that is better and more prosperous than them , which is just about Everything. all they can do is make Fatwas on everything that points that truth out. they have nothing and deserve it.

Elsewhere in Londonistan, Lockerbie-gate plot thickens:

Lockerbie bomber could be freed: ...Sources within the Scottish legal system claimed yesterday Megrahi's appeal - which was turned down in 2002 - is now likely to be reopened in a move which could eventually see him walk free.
Meanwhile, Libya demands sharia death for Kaddafi's EU hostages today... while Lockerbie victims' families protest Kaddafi's deadbeat promises.

A COURSE on Satan???

Appetizers are on Salman, everyone!

If there's a bigger evil in the world than Islam, I haven't encountered it yet.

BTW "type key" is a pain in the butt! lol always giving me problems

As a British Citizen I DEMAND that all Pakistani citizens and second generation UK pakistanis LEAVE UK forthwith. Their religion and behaviour is an insult to my sensibility. There is that OK?

New hobby..ask any muslim employee in Borders or Waterstones who seem to be taking their religion seriously (veil, silly beard, wearing pajamas etc) how much it would cost to order The Satanic Verses, an excellent book by one of Britain's greatest writers.

TypeKey's definitely playing up tonight - apologies for me dupes but there's definitely something amiss..hope they get it fixed.

In the meantime, I've got my notebook and pencils and am off for a 'Course On Satan' :)

Why are all of the signs in the photo in English?

Shouldn't they be in Pakistani?

Or don't the Pakistanis care?

Why are all of the signs in the photo in English?

Well, English after a fashion. As well as the 'Course On Satan', Al-Beeb (who appear to have the best pic I've seen of the staged FireSeethe&trade... oops sorry. ahem, 'spontaneous demonstration by devout students' so far); has also treated us to 'Monstrous Of World!'

You really couldn't make this stuff up could you? :)

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/south_asia/6763119.stm - then click on 'enlarge'to see it in it's full Islamic glory...

Think of who your friends are.

Ever hear of Sir Iqbal Socranie ? Hasn't he been a wonderful voice of moderation (advancing the agenda of the umma) ?

Rushdie supports the "palestineans" and supports the muslims in Kashmir. Isn't he another of our wonderful friends ? Yeah give him a larger voice.

Poor Britain.

It's just another rent-a-mob. We'll know how Muslims really feel when the moderate voice Islam takes a stand and oh wait...

As their cult says that Jews and Christians were turned into Apes and Pigs, I say they have a lot more to apologize before we need to apologize. I hope the Queen knights Robert Spencer next. Their entire religion is an insult to YHWH.

I'd like Britain to say something along the lines of: "Tough! He's keeping the title, now politely sod off!" - This would indeed make my day.

Remember,

Thirteen percent of American Muslims believe that suicide bombings are justified (in at least some circumstances) for the same reason as do those swell fellows in Pakistan: THE DEFENSE OF ISLAM.

Does the occasion of Rushdie's knighthood qualify as one of those circumstances in which American Muslims would sanction the murder of those who've 'insulted Islam'?

What level of 'insult' must be achieved for those American Muslims to give their personal O.K. to blowing up other human beings?

How much higher is that threshold here in American than in Pakistan?

It is higher here, isn't it?

Mr Niazi said: "The title from Britain for blasphemer Salman Rushdie has hurt the sentiments of the Muslims across the world. Every religion should be respected. I demand the British government immediately withdraw the title as it is creating religious hatred."

EVERY RELIGION SHOULD BE RESPECTED?

Try practicing what you preach, buddy!

Web link advice:

I would change the weblink on the story from the Daily Mail to the London Times:
http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/comment/faith/article1948375.ece

The reason why is because I have come to learn that Daily Mail web links on news become inoperable after a few months. So whenever I see a Daily Mail story now, I am also looking for a Telegraph or London Times version of that story.

People use JihadWatch for research purposes I am certain.

Just a thought.

He added: "The West is accusing Muslims of extremism and terrorism. If someone exploded a bomb on his body he would be right to do so unless the British government apologises and withdraws the 'sir' title."

Does this person listen to himself?

In one breath he implies the West is wrong to accuse Muslims of terrorism and extremism and in the next says it would be right for anyone to explode a bomb on his body in response to this honor being bestowed on a British citizen.

Message to Muslims: this is an insult only if you take it as such. Did you ever consider ignoring it? Did Muslims who are so offended ever consider avoiding Britain? (Silly question, but I couldn't help it!)

Clearly you are looking for any excuse to be angry. You'll make it up if you have to, even to the point of killing your co-religionists, if Gaza is any indication. We can't worry about you and your sorry cult. Go ahead blow yourselves up, but please do it in isolation. The only 'martyrs' from such an operation are the people you murder, not you. You chose that route. No one forced it upon you.

Any Muslim visitors to this site, could you please explain how these people are harmed by the title given to Mr. Rushdie? How can they possibly be this angry? We just don't understand.

We're trying to understand, you see, but it's completely alien and unfathomable to us. Even just to get this angry and hate-filled is impossible for us.

It's startling and disturbing. Please help...

"The "biggest evil of the world." Worse than 9/11. Worse than 7/7"

Yes, the worst, like the cartoons, like the Pope's speech, like the alleged flushed Quran, and so on, and so on.

Aww, you poor guys... Your puny little religion and your puny little prophet and your puny little god are so feeble that they require idiots like you to threaten death & dismemberment in order to get any "respect" (and I use the word loosely) at all.

Feh!

What exactly are these "students" studying?

And since when is it as feeble a country as Pakicrappistan's business what they do in England?!

I wish the English would tell them: MAKE US! They need to knight Bat Ye'or and Oriana Fallaci while they are at it.

what's up with typekey?

Bearing in mind Britain's PM to be, Gordon Brown, felt it necessary to apologise to India after a "d" list celebrity offensively used the word "poppadom" to an Indian, will he be demanding an apology from pakistan's leader about the burning of effigies of Queen Elizabeth II?

I'm not holding my breath.

to me it seems that islams answer to outside action is through the use of threats. cartoons, books, speechs, military defensive actions, hell pointing out what the muslims say themselves winds up with threats coming from islam. Is this not bully behavior? at what point does the rest of the world bully back for real, not a strike followed by heavy humanitarian aid. What happened to "if you do this will will do it back but worse". Is this not how England pacified most of the world? I wish the that west would look back to its earlier leaders and come to an understandiing that the world is an ugly place that cannot be fixed by us alone, but rather, those who are suffering must make the changes and choices themselves without hinderance. if they choose violence towards outsiders, then smack them hard so that they remember it and will try a peaceful solution next time. repeat when needed.

The constant global intimidation via media must be stopped. I feel an urge to incite these people further to show that I am not willing to put up with there threats and burnings of things.

When will the tide turn?

Churchill considered him self a failure because he could not convince the UK of the dangers posed by the Nazi's. draw any parallels anyone?

I have a book, Life of Muhammad, by Guillaume, Printed In Pakistan, that has the Satanic verses in it (pp. 165-166). Perhaps the Religious affairs Minister MohamMad Ijaz ul-Haq should blow himself up for this outrage.

It is, of course, deporable to think that Satan would influence Muhammed or anyone one else. Poor Son of Sam had his neighbor's dog Harvey telling him to kill. Mohammed had an "angel" talking to him.

Ancient Christian teaching warns over and over again that one should not trust visions, apparitions, lights, feelings, forebodings, euphorias, whether they seem to be of or from God, saints, angels or any other source. Too often these are deceptive and satanic, no matter how good they sound or how holy they seem. If it is from a godly source, God can find a way to confirm that the experience is from Him. These writers tell us that visions causing terror, despair and thoughts of suicide are always satanic.

When the angel spoke to Mohammed, Mohammed was scared and fearful that he had lost his senses and had to have his wife convince him not to kill himself. I'm sorry if this offends, but I believe his whole book is a satanic verse.

Has anyone read 'The Satanic Verses'?

It is a very hard book to read. I think it is because it is a translation of Arabic into English and Arabic is very flowery, spacey. I don't know how to describe it.

I got real bored with it and still can't figure out what is wrong with it from a muslim point of view.

It was boring on the level of the koran being boring. The difference being that the koran is even more kludgy with no story line.

i give my congratulations and approval to Britain for knighting Rushdie. it is as good a gesture as the Swiss banning of Islamic minarets. let's have more of this. standing up to the bully of Islam is a badge of honor. i can't think of anything more appropriate for expressing British sentiments. if Pakistan wants to punish Britain or demand an apology, let's send some troops in to Pakistan to root out all of the terrorist training grounds, and let's defend ourselves and our right to free speech, press, and the right of the Queen to knight whoever she wants. after all, we in free nations don't take orders from Islam based on Islamic sensibilities or customs. Islamic "sensibilities" are a way for Islam to bring about a certain behavior in non-Muslims that is favorable or respectful to Islam, when Islam does not deserve any such respect. Islam needs to be ruled over, monitored and watched very closely if not banned completely.
we are going to have to stand up to these Islamist brainwashed zealots sooner or later. it may as well be now.
otherwise, it will be sharia for everyone, and wouldn't sharia be fun? after all, with sharia in place, there would be no need for a Queen, a Prime Minister or a President or Congress. it would only be all Allah all the time.
Jesus Christ took all of the world's sins away 2007 years ago on His cross. past, present and future sins are gone, except for unbelief in Christ. yet the Muslims keep accusing everyone of various and sundry sins, but every sin on earth has been forgiven even while Islam keeps inventing more sins. what a guilt trip Islam is. yes we need reasonable laws to keep order, but Islam is taking orders from Satan and Satan is very oppressive.

well, i guess this reaction is not surprising to JW readers, nor should it be to whoever decided to put Rushdie on the list.
so what did that person intend ? an opportunity to show a bit of spine, with Britain weathering this storm to the end ? or an opportunity for a humiliating climb-down ? and if the latter, WHY ?
as i said in a previous post, i am not a big fan of Sir Salman, for having brought so much trouble to Britain, but backing down over this will definitely be seen as a sign of British weakness, and as such will only invite further attack.
just have to tough it out now.....

I read it once. A rather tedious book. It does have a few interesting parts. I didn't see anything in it worth killing the author—but then again, I don't follow a misanthropic religion.

Rushdie knighthood 'justifies suicide attacks', claims Pakistani minister...

The beast certainly speak's through these people's mouth's. They want us all to convert to Islam, and then they show us this stuff and worse. Islam is supposed to be a beautiful religion, and then they treat us to ugly. The only reason that Islam is growing is because it is only presented to the mentally deaf, dumb, and blind. These are the people most inclined to fall into the Islamopit. They have been down so long, Islam look's like up to them.
Allah knew that many convert's were not quite 'that', mentally incapacitated, and that it would not take them long to, 'get wise to Islam', and want out. So Allah put the dreaded 'death for apostacy', clause in the muslim's contract of submission.
The mentally deaf, dumb, and blind, are ideal candidate's for the demon's mouthpiece. They are already posessed, they know how to talk the talk,
they know what, and who, the chief demon hate's, and spend almost all their energy toward's
accomplishing the chief's goal's. Allah doe's not care one twit about Saloman Rushdie, but the demon posessed do. They think Allah want's this, but he doe's not because he is not. But the demon who speak's through them is...'justifies suicide attacks', is demon talk...

No, have not; but I've heard a lot about it. I guess under the circumstances, I'll have to buy a few copies and pass them out -- oh yes, and actually read it.

"Also today Pakistani lawmakers passed a government-backed resolution demanding Britain withdraw the honour which they insist is an insult to the religious sentiments of Muslims."

This is an opportunity for the British Parlament to pass its own resolution in response to the Pakistani resolution, telling them that their backward, primitive, immoral resolution, is an insult to civilized people everywhere, and that the religious sentiments of Muslims directly contridicts the Judeo/Christian sentiments and moral principles that we live by in the West.

Muslims believe that Islam is a respectable religion because we keep telling them it is. It's time we tell them the truth. Let them deal with it.

By the look of their sign, how is it, one man can single handedly bump Israel from satan status and the U.S from great satan status?

Pakistan has called on all Muslim countries to break ties with Britian and the West unless Britian apologizes for and revokes the knighthood of Sir Salman Rushdie. Oh, the horror. No ties with Islamic countries. How will we go on?

Has anyone read 'The Satanic Verses'?
-Posted by: R_not at June 18, 2007 3:55 PM

Why, yes, I have. Several years ago it was recommended to me as the greatest work of English literature, ever.

While I admired the fluency of Rushdie's writing, I detest, detest, detest, magical realism. Rushdie is all about magical realism, he used in Midnight's Children (I put that down.)

Anyway, you know the old saw, "If you can't dazzle them with brilliance, baffle them with bullshit."

Satanic Verses is a work of "dazzling bullshit." What it's really about, the big theme, I have no idea.

Very memorable, however, is the portrait of muhammad. Rushdie shows him to be a cynical, frustrated, showman and pretender. A kind of P.T. Barnum. One is left with the impression that Islam is his private enterprise, the greatest monotheism show on earth.

congratulations united kingdom, congratulations sir salman rushdie, i am going to celebrate by having a martini and a roast pork sandwich with my best friend abdul from pakistan.

Going to the original article, I see there is a photo of Salman and his wife. I think I will now protest my outrage that a guy who looks like Loki should pull such an attractive younger woman.

What, me jealous?

Thankfully, islamists have an open mouth, insert foot theology.

A letter in the Times

Now that Sir Salman is once more being actively targeted for death because of his book on the life of Mohammad - people in my office were wondering whether the monty python team following the success of the life of Brian will do their movie treatment for Mohammad. The department consensus at my univeristy was that it's probably best to stick with the well tested and albeit worn Jesus jokes.

Good post!

Please feel free to "explode a bomb on your body", just don't get any of your atomized fecal matter on the Infidels.

'Pakistan's religious affairs minister suggested that the knighthood was so grave an offence that any Muslim anywhere in the world would be justified in taking violent action.

"If somebody has to attack by strapping bombs to his body to protect the honour of the Prophet then it is justified," Mr ul-Haq told the National Assembly.'
http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/comment/faith/article1948375.ece

Such an extreme call (in essence) for British Muslim violence by a government official of Pakistan should be denounce by British authorities as an act of war. At least formal protest and denunciations should be make and a demand from British MPs and the PM for this Pakistani minister’s resignation. Indeed, the USA and EU nations should also protest and make this demand. We can’t have foreign ministers exciting extreme local Muslim violence this way.

" Very memorable, however, is the portrait of muhammad. Rushdie shows him to be a cynical, frustrated, showman and pretender. A kind of P.T. Barnum. One is left with the impression that Islam is his private enterprise, the greatest monotheism show on earth.

ABC News is reporting that last week a group of up to 300 would-be suicide bombers (some as young as 12) had completed a "training course" on suicide bombing. There's a video of the "graduation" ceremony. The training camp was located in eastern Afghanistan, and the terrorist leader is claiming that the bombers are being deployed to the United States, Canada, Great Britain and Germany.

Lord Ahmed described Rushdie, today, as 'a man with blood on his hands.' Since any killing during the Satanic verses furore was done by Muslims it is plain that they are the ones with blood on their hands - them or their religion. It is typical of them to talk the language of victimhood, while the real name of the game is intimidation by them. A classic example of Muslim mystification occurred on BBC radio 5 tonight when one Muslim commentator said that you have to know Punjabi to realise how offensive some of the terms used in Rushdie's book were, to SE Asian Muslims. It makes a change from the usual line about people having to know Arabic before they can discuss the Koran.

Leave Rushdie alone

Too bad the wife was able to convince him not to go ahead and kill himself. Had he gone through with it who knows... the world might have been spared an awful lot of pain and bloodshed.

Same old same old: "Islam is the religion of peace, and if you so much as suggest anything different I'll cut your f***ing head off". They are just completely deranged.

As I look at this picture of Muslim love and Muslim peace, I'm dreaming of a very big fire hose and then...Oh, sorry.

I started to read The Satanic Verses about five years ago, but boredom and lack of interest set in after several pages and I decided there must have been a garage to clean or a lawn to mow, somewhere, that was infinitely more stimulating than reading that book. I like Rushdie though. He was mildly amusing in Brigdet Jone's Diary.

The Islamic world's attitude to Salman Rushdie is an excellent topic to broach with left-wing dhimmies and naïve apologists of Islamism because they simply cannot explain it away by the stock response of "Palestine" or "Iraq". Watch them squirm uncomfortably or try to change the subject to "Palestine" or "Iraq".

It is also high time that Britain broke off diplomatic relations with the despicable holocaust-denying Islamic Republic of Iran. Moreover, the Pakistani High Commissioner in London should summoned to the Foreign Office and told that the knighthood of Salman Rushdie is none of Pakistan's bleeding business. He should also be presented with a signed copy of the Satanic Verses and told that the novel needs to become required reading in all English literature courses in Pakistan if that country is to continue receiving aid.

I think Salman Rushdie would be an excellent addition to Britain's diplomatic corps, and would be a brilliant and eloquent ambassador for the United Kingdom. An appointment as Britain's ambassador to Denmark, for example, would be wonderfully symbolic. The hot headed bearded flag burners in Karachi would have a field day.

God Bless Queen Elizabeth II for doing the right thing, making Sahman Rushie a knight. That should drive the Muslims crazy bigtime.

Rushdie, You da man. I bought your book and I pray for you. They will always despise you and want to finish you off. So far you're still standing. Rock on youngster, you have many who love your courage.

Why do these people keep picking on poor defenseless effigies? What did the effigies ever do to them?

Oh come on people, they're just having a laugh!
(which would explain why they all look like clowns)

Rushdie for EU President!

These muslims obviously are completely alien.

As a Catholic Christian I find it strange that I can go to daily Mass and I never come out of the Church so enraged that I want to burn an effigy and go demonstrate in the street, but when these monkeys and sub-human types go to their mosque they always seem to be enraged afterwards. I wonder why.

Goes to show what we are up against.

Just look at those deranged faces.

I do not know why we call Pakistan a "friendly country". It is clear they helped create, and still support the Taliban. There is massive public support for Islamic fundamentalism everywhere in Pakistan. They have Sharia law. Who the hell are we kidding that they are "friendly". Only the president prevents outright hostility and the state sponsored spread of jihad. And I fear, before long they will manage to assasinate or overthrow him. Then for the West, all hell will break loose when the Jihadis have their Nukes.

Here in the UK are millions of these lunatics. There is only one solution, round them up, close the mosques, ship them back home and be done with it. Hence at the next election, I and hopefully many, many, millions of other patriotic Brits will be voting for the BNP. They are the only party with the guts to stand up to the evil of Islam in the UK. All the others shy away from it for fear of being called a "racist". Call me what you want, call me a "racist" if you wish. I shall consider it a great complement. I shall consider it means I am a Patriot, and love my country and my culture, and want both to stay the way they are (or should I say were!!).

Save the UK from this threat, send the P*K*'s home!!!

God Save The Queen and long may the Falklands remain British!!!

Sorry Folks

Will all the moderate muslims please raise your hands........

It's comments like this from the timesonline link above that make me worry about Britain...

Why on earth was this man given a Knighthood? Firstly he doesn't deserve one for his 'body of work' but secondly - and most importantly - he should not have been given one because of the way it will be interpreted in the Muslim world. How a country so obsessively 'pc' as Britain could get this so terribly wrong is idiotic. I despair at our leaders.

Adam is more worried about the muslim world than his own. Or maybe Britain is the muslim world?

The more primitive the culture/religion, the more they resort to violence. i.e Islam, the failed experiment.

Islam should be banned in the west, all mosques should be bulldozed down and the books burned. Radical? yes!
