Keystone Kops Alert: the Administration may have noted his appeal for calm during the Cartoon Rage riots, and thought it had found a "moderate." When officials found out he was a wanted terrorist, they withdrew the invitation.
"U.S. invites terror suspect to dinner -- he declines," by Les Zaitz in The Oregonian, with thanks to all who sent this in:
The Bush administration may have a new weapon in the war on terror: the dinner invitation.A designated terrorist with ties to Oregon was invited to sit down with U.S. government officials and their guests at an embassy event Saturday in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Soliman al-Buthi, 45, is well known to the Treasury and Justice departments and the National Security Council.
In 2004, he was designated a terrorist under an alternate spelling of his name for his role in operating the Al-Haramain Islamic Foundation in Ashland. The first entry of a Google search using his name as spelled in the invitation says he "has been linked to al-Qaida funding."
Treasury officials said classified evidence shows the now-shuttered foundation in Ashland helped fund al-Qaida and had "direct links" to Osama bin-Laden. Al-Buthi also was labeled a terrorist by the United Nations and became an international fugitive two years ago when a federal grand jury indicted him for tax fraud and money laundering connected to the Oregon charity.
Al-Buthi has denied any connection to terrorism.
An engineer by training, he popped into the news again last year in a controversy over Danish publication of a cartoon highly insulting to Muslims worldwide. Al-Buthi, speaking for a newly created Islamic organization, appealed for calm as Western embassies were besieged by protesters.
His Portland attorney, Tom Nelson, suspects al-Buthi's posture in the cartoon episode drew the invitation.
An embassy political officer in Riyadh, the Saudi capital, invited al-Buthi to a restaurant dinner honoring the chairman of the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom....
Nelson said embassy officials must have known they were dealing with a designated terrorist. Nelson said al-Buthi intended to attend the dinner but the lawyer advised him not to step onto embassy grounds, which would make him subject to arrest. Otherwise, he was safe from capture because the U.S. has no extradition treaty with Saudi Arabia.
In an e-mail to The Oregonian, al-Buthi said "I was surprised, particularly because I am supposed to be a fugitive from the U.S. government!"
Al-Buthi said the U.S. embassy called Tuesday to confirm he was coming.
On Wednesday, after The Oregonian began questioning federal authorities in Washington, the embassy withdrew its invitation.
Disgusting! Shall we? When I seen Bush two days ago go give Africa billions of dollars for aides!
I thought why? why us? Why isn't that money going to help on the war?! F' aides let the dhimmi's handle that! Or how about Germany, China? Bush we need to win! Focus! Now we have more people ready to be beheaded! This is unnessary! A chip! Would turn things around totaly!
Now he is dining with them?! Maybe he can sleep in the Lincoln bed! Shall we invite a terrorist in today for dinner, how about an illegal? They are so easy to find! I see them every day! They all are very private and will not smile or look at you! I feel their resentment! Thankyou Bush!
God now I hear Cher singing baby I want to be friends with you. . . someone is.. singing...babe!
The newly-appointed "czar" for All-Homeland-TipTop-Security-and-War-on-Terrorism Matters at the State Department, Mack Sennett, was unavailable for comment.
al-butthisaid: "I am a fugitive?!"
I won't sit and eat with a Muhammadan. I know what they think of me: I'm a kafur, lower than a beast.
And what do I think of them?
They are the very incarnation of the DEVIL. I have NO Christian mercy regarding muhammadans. I have a phobia regarding all things muhammadan beginning with their evil prophet and ending with the disgusting spectacle of their exploding babies. The sooner this evil cult is wiped off the face of the earth the better.
Am I an Islamophobe?
You betcha!
i was thinking this was either a VERY clever attempt to get him to step onto U.S. property, or some illiterate BOOB at state who can't be bothered to check with CT officials!!!
good grief...
I just sent an email asking the president to step down , Now I need to send another?
Homeland security isn't worth a hill of beans!
They do not address anything! Bobanic plague in the zoo at Denver! nothing! Animals have died there with it. It will not take long for that because fleas are hard to control! Just like these people, homeland does not address it! What do they do but wait! Just like the U.N. just there to please themselves! A-o's!
Why can't we all just get along?

Looks like I WAS WRONG about President bush!
He IS NOT a traitor to his country after all!
No, Mr bush is simply nothing more than a garden variety moron, dolt, idiot, buffoon, and perhaps a low end psychopath.
Yeah, sure, I know he's got a fancy degree from a fancy ivy-league univeristy -- doesn't speak very well of the university in my book.
At least the engineer is smart enough not to show up for this meeting.
GAWD, he's dumber than I could have ever imagined!
I mean, bush -- not Soliman al-Buthi!
Pardon me while I laugh -- the only alternative is to cry and I don't "do crying."

'It's the government stupid'(not to be taken personally), the left hand never knows what the right hand is doing;
I dont think Bush and the Bushmen are dumb at all, I think they are dogedly following an agenda. The reason that Bush appears stupid is because we dont understand the agenda, at least most of us dont, and Bush is not going to tell us just what it is. The American public are screwed no matter who comes out on top. America is under attack from all sides and inside. Muslims are not causing all of this, it appears Bush is attacking us as well by his immigration attitude, and his insistance that he knows better than all American people, about most everything. He no longer actually represents America, because he gives not twit what we think. Nor is his agenda altered by it. He has shown his true colors so many times, it's amazing he still gets support from anyone. The liberal elite on the other side are every bit as disasterous, which is why we are screwed...Help is not on its way, so I guess we are just going to have to help ourselves,
in any way we can...
Please, Muhammad, come to dinner!
Please, Muhammad, move to my country!
Please! Pretty Please! With Whipped Cream and a Cherry on Top!
DETROIT - Immigration aid workers here expect that as many as half of the nearly 7,000 Iraqi refugees who will be brought into the United States by the end of September will settle in the area.
Lutheran Social Services of Michigan has received government data on numerous refugees recommended for resettlement, said Belmin Pinjic, the service's director of refugee services.
"That's the first sign that someone is in the process and should be coming," he said. "How long that process should take, we don't know."
The agency has already started to contact the prospective refugees' family members who live in the Detroit area, Pinjic said.
The Department of Homeland Security said this week it has approved the refugee applications of 59 Iraqis who should be arriving in the coming weeks. The department provided no details about where they would settle but said it has already completed interviews in refugee cases involving more than 700 men, women and children.
The Bush administration announced in February it would allow up to 7,000 Iraqis into the U.S. by the end of September — up from 202 in 2006. It would be the largest Iraqi influx since the 2003 invasion.
=======================
Yup, "we're fighting them over there, so they won't follow us over here." ;-)
--George Bush
Guess who's NOT coming to dinner.
I suggest he try the fugu.
Actually, that statement IS true, because we're fighting them over there, so we can BRING THEM over here.
Nor is his agenda altered by it. He has shown his true colors so many times, it's amazing he still gets support from anyone. The liberal elite on the other side are every bit as disasterous, which is why we are screwed...Help is not on its way, so I guess we are just going to have to help ourselves
You could be right especially in light of this piece:
Last week, WND reported President Bush had signed May 9 a little-reported National Security and Homeland Security Directive (NSPD-51 and NSPD-20) that granted extraordinary powers to the president in the event of a declared national emergency, apparently without congressional approval or oversight.

http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2007/05/20070509-12.html
Houston-based KBR, formerly the engineering and construction subsidiary of Halliburton Co., has a contingency contract in place with the Department of Homeland Security to construct detention facilities in the event of a national emergency.
Sections 23 and 24 of NSPD-51/HSPD-20 specify that Annex A and the classified Continuity Annexes are incorporated into the directive, even though they remain secret and are not available for examination as part of the published document.
http://worldnetdaily.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=55923
Well, maybe bush is a traitor after all!
I don't see the Republicans in office and shudder to think what hillary and obama will do with the possible detention camps and the by then, pre-existing NSPD-51/HSPD-20.
Good gawd, we are under assult and a revolution is already underway in our own country, but maybe we are the ones that are stupid for stubbornly refusing to acknowledge the obvious?
And those terrorist training camps are still operating in New York the last I heard; nobody is even talking about another Waco or Ruby Ridge!
The folks at Waco were only dangerous to themselves, but the government had no problem burning up women and children alive; and no problem with shooting unarmed people in the back.
Maybe that's the difference -- if a group is a real dangerous threat the governmetn and police do nothing; if they are women and children and pose more of an imagined threat, they shoot to kill.
With nuts at the helm, you're right; we are screwed.
"The Bush administration announced in February it would allow up to 7,000 Iraqis into the U.S. by the end of September — up from 202 in 2006. It would be the largest Iraqi influx since the 2003 invasion."
Who, exactly, gets to make these decisions? And is there any way that we-the-people, whom our duly-elected government is supposed to serve (as in, "take care of", not as in "offer food to be consumed"), can register our protest without waiting for next year's elections?
You can try - email or call him. There is a website on contacting him.
I wouldn't hold up too much hope of him listening though - he doesn't seem to listen to even the ones who vote for him. And neither does Congress people listen. They are too concerned with lobbyists, special interest groups, their own agendas to listen to us. And when they come up for vote - people keep voting them back into office. I got some real winners here in California - and Pelosi got voted back into office. It is like they take their heads out of their anal cavity long enough to vote, then they quickly go back in. And they will vehemiantly defend her, and others like her such as the Clintons.
This joker, Soliman al-Buthi, features prominently in the autobiographical work entitled "My Year Inside Radical Islam" by Daveed Gartenstein-Ross. The author grew up in a Jewish hippie family in a little hippie mountain village in Oregon. He gravitated towards Islam, and then (fortunately) gravitated away and ended up being an FBI informant. Daveed helped the FBI build a case against al-Buthi and the "so-called" charity.
I enjoyed reading the book as well as hearing the author speak at a book store close to my home.
Out of curiosity, I visited the govt. site
and just happened to discover a couple of interesting vacancies:
vacant position
Under Secretary for Economic, Energy and Agricultural Affairs -- Vacant
The Under Secretary serves as the senior economic official at the State Department; advises the Secretary of State on international economic policy; and leads the work of the Department on issues ranging from energy, trade, agriculture, and aviation to bilateral relations with America's economic partners.
vacant position
Under Secretary for Arms Control and International Security -- Vacant
The Under Secretary leads the interagency policy process on nonproliferation and manages global U.S. security policy, principally in the areas of nonproliferation, arms control, regional security and defense relations, and arms transfers and security assistance.
KNOCK KNOCK "Helloooo . . .anyone home?"
Don't worry. Mack Sennett is still there -- obviously.
Actually, it was a zionist conspiracy...
On the menu was pork chops.
;-)
God can you imagine you are the world's worst nightmare terrorist (in your mind) and you get invited to dinner by the President of United States! Kinda puts a damper on things! huhnn?**?
Makes a good cartoon!
"...dinner honoring the chairman of the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom."
You really can't make this stuff up.
This must have been soo embarrassing to explain to those "alleged" terror buds.
Why did he turn the "honor" down, again?
No doubt.
I Take back homeland security doesn't amount to hill of beans. They help....they have stopped planned attacks on us. They just need to do better. It is a small hill of beans.
