DUBAI (AFP) - Al-Qaeda threatened in an Internet statement on Monday to escalate attacks against the "enemies of Allah" in North African countries, warning Muslims to stay away from government sites."The Mujahedin (holy warriors)... have many hidden surprises for the enemies of Allah in the countries of the Islamic Maghreb, which will come in an escalating sequence," said the Al-Qaeda Movement in the Islamic Countries of the Maghreb.
"We call upon all our Muslim brothers to stay away from the centres of the infidels and official apostates, as well as security (gatherings) of army and police," it added in the statement posted on a website used by Islamic militant groups.
"The Mujahedin are determined to target their quarters, centres and barracks with all available means of detonation, bombing and demolition," added the statement whose authenticity could not be verified.
The statement also claimed that many attacks on military targets had been cancelled "only due to the presence of Muslims."
Well, that will continue to be a problem in North Africa.

A shame--I've been to Morocco. A very beautiful country with a diverse people. So far enough people there oppose Al-Qaeda's agenda for it to make significant inroads, but I fear this might change. If Morocco falls, I have the feeling Spain would be next on their target list.

...that is odd...the presence of Muslims certainly doesn't stop the Iraqi Muslims from killing Muslims if they are near attacks on coalition targets....ANd Al-Qaeda has said Iraq was important....

I can´t explain how the americans have so respect and good opinion about Morocco, from Morocco the razzias en Western Europe began and the invasion of Hispania, and Morocco is now ocuppying a former spanish territory that couldn´t have the right to be independent because it was occupied by Morocco.
The moroccans in Western Europe is synonim of drugs, and DEA isn´t pressuring Morocco for the tolerance with the drugs. And many other things.
I don´t understand the respect for Mohammed VI and his father Hassan II, dictatorships who made impressionant repressions and live in opulence with the people dying in famines, and we have to remember the 2/3 of the moroccan population don´t know write and read.

Franze, I think the respect people had for Morocco is just due to the fact that, at least for tourists (I visited it back in 2004), it's a beautiful, laid-back country with plenty to see and do. I don't know of very many people who had, or have, respect for its tyrannous rulers; and if there are some, they are utterly out of their minds. No one's saying it's perfect--far from it. But as a tourist destination, it does have much to recommend itself.
Why don't these cosmic losers find something better to do with their lives?
Every new outrage should be met with swift calamity raining down on their heads.
