More fantasy-based policymaking. By Deb Riechmann for Associated Press (thanks to WriterMom):
WASHINGTON - President Bush is set to announce new aid to help the embattled Palestinian president create a viable state that can co-exist with Israel, administration officials said yesterday.“The president sees there is an opportunity there now to show the Palestinian people a choice between the kind of violence and chaos under Hamas in Gaza and the prospect ... for an effective, democratic Palestinian state,” said national security adviser Stephen Hadley.
Taking on a more personal, high-profile role in the conflict, Bush planned to speak today at the White House about U.S. financial and diplomatic support for President Mahmoud Abbas. He controls just the West Bank after the Islamic militant group Hamas gained authority in Gaza last month.
Hadley did not elaborate about the type of financial assistance Bush planned to discuss. But a senior administration official indicated the president would announce aid above the $86 million that the White House already has requested from Congress to help provide security for Abbas.
The administration also has said it would contribute $40 million to the United Nations to help the Palestinians, particularly in the Gaza Strip now controlled by Hamas.
...no more foreign aid to Muslim entities...not one more dime....
The Administration does not understand that the war against Israel is based on Islam. It is not susceptible of the kind of "solution" that so far has been offered, whether that "solution" is called a "two-state solution," or the "Oslo Accords," or something else cooked up by Dennis Ross, something tirelessly worked on by the officious likes of Aaron Miller and Richard Haas and Martin Indyk and all those other "Middle East experts" whose entire professional lives have been spent ignoring the central importance of Islam, and who somehow always end up on their feet, despite their record of non-accomplishment and miscomprehension (but that is the story of official Washington -- all shall have prizes, all shall end up with rewards no matter what) who then end up directing or working at think-tanks or foundations with the word "Middle East" or "Near East" in their name, funded -- so misguidedly -- by some supposed well-wisher of Israel, a mighty-morph billionaire or someone else, who deludedly assumes that that the indyks and rosses will somehow be helpful to Israel's case -- they haven't been and they won't be, not in any serious sense -- when they have devoted decades of efforts, to pointless "negotiations" and "treaties" which are based on completely ignoring Muslim views of treaties with Infidels (based on the Treaty of al-Hudaibiyyah) and indeed, intent on ignoring all of Islam -- its tenets, its attitudes, its atmospherids -- without which any discussion. much less an attempt to "solve" the Lesser Jihad against Israel, is simply silly.
I sure am tired of hearing the same old drivel from Bush and others that for a few dollars more palestine will be a peaceful, law abiding country. There was not one shred of evidence before Hamas took over that this was going to happen and it will NEVER happen in any of our lifetimes. Why can't these politicians understand that? The fact that Arafatpig, head of the PLO, had accumulated over 6 billion dollars shows just how insane it is to trust such a corrupt bunch of terrorist scum. Fatah, Hamas, Hizbollah-they're all the same-doesn't matter who runs things. A cesspool still stinks, regardless of who controls it.
The $40 million figure is bogus. It is above and beyond what we already send to the Palestinians through UNRWA (UN Relief and Work Agency). Every year the West sends around $500,000,000 to this agency to feed, house, school, and provide medicine for the Palestinians. This half-a-billion dollars is given to 25,000 UNRWA employees, 99% of whom are local Arabs. Congressman Kirk has identified widespread corruption and waste.
Every month or so, UNRWA calls for ‘urgent’ emergent funding. That is probably what the $40 million is about. Here’s another one released today asking for an additional $30,000,000. Um, by the way, please provide $8,000,000 in cash.

'The administration does not understand that the war against Israel is based upon Islam" said Hugh. And how right he is.
Yet the US, the 'Quartet', the thugocracy known as the UN, Russia, China, and of course the entire arab and muslim world, all vote to dismantle the state of Israel with concessions, towards peace. Especially, the Israeli left, who are the only one's supported by all the above players with their money's. That may seem pejorative, but then, it is why I respect Robert, Hugh and the the others here who speak of the shortsigtedness of the surrender and appeasement demanded of Israel.... such as by the Pope of the Catholic Church.

Pope urges Peres to advance peace
Pope Benedict XVI urges Peres to work towards peace between Israel,
Palestinians as president
Ronny Sofer
Pope Benedict XVI urged Shimon Peres to advance peace between Israel
and the Palestinians in his new capacity as the President of the
Jewish State.
Peres will be sworn in as president at a special ceremony at the
Knesset on Sunday evening.
"On the eve of your appointment as the President of the State of
Israel I would like to express my deepest wishes and congratulate
you for you appointment to the highest ranking position in your
country," the Pope wrote in a letter sent to Peres.
"Many people around the world, as well as Israel's citizens expect
you to push the government and other relevant bodies to do
everything to advance peace," the Pope added.
"Mr. President," the Pope added, "Your reputation and achievements
are exceptional, clear and absolute in the field of peace and the
pursuit of justice. I am sure you will continue to influence and
incite courage in other leaders to deal with the challenges of the
future in the clear hope to advance the good a peace."
"This will be the best way to defeat the deadly terror and violence
that are condemned by the whole world. The terrorists are betraying
humanity," he said.
Israel's Ambassador to Italy Oded Ben-Horin said the Pope's letter
was personal, warm and unusual.
Peres was congratulated by a string of world leaders that included
the presidents of Egypt, Jordan, Russia and China.

Meanwhile, Islam teaches it's children to homicide infidels, that there never was any Temples in Jerusalem,, that Jews lied to keep Mohammad out of the Torah, etc etc etc- And that is the peace of hell they offer, and which the Pope of Rome supports.

It is not the highest ranking position, but a ceremonial one.... where Presidents advocate for Israel, not as Shimon Peres, plans to do,
with his advocating for the surrender of all of Judea, all of Samaria, and surrendering to the position that Israel should be part of and like the EU- a universalists place, not a Jewish homeland and cornerstone of the western civilization that it is.

"WASHINGTON - President Bush is set to announce new aid to help the embattled Palestinian president create a viable state that can co-exist with Israel, administration officials said yesterday. "
Fatah's "constitution" calls for Israels destruction....they have a couple articles that are the same as Hamas'. I think Article 7 and 19.
"The president sees there is an opportunity there now to show the Palestinian people a choice between the kind of violence and chaos under Hamas in Gaza and the prospect ... for an effective, democratic Palestinian state,” said national security adviser Stephen Hadley."
I find this amusing since I would think that Gaza wont' be violent and chaotic now that Hamas has taken control. Similar to Taliban rule of Afghanistan, they will probably be more ordered than under any time of Fatah rule....isn't that what Muslims always give props to the Taliban for, bringing order to Afghanistan after years of fighting and instability?
What a joke....these guys will do everything they can to pay their Jizya tax.
All you hear from moslems is how "palestine" is being "oppressed".
Let the moslem world support "palestinians". They have the cash, it was stolen from us. (I can throw that word around too)
AND I do not give my permission to send my hard earned money to foreign governments. We as citizens and tax payers should have the final say on what happens to our money. Foreign aid is an exercise in futility.
Until the "Palestinians" stop teaching the demented Islamic dogma that the rocks and trees, in the Last Days, will yell out:
"Oh Muslim, oh servant of Allah, there is a Jew behind me, come kill him!"
-this move is just pouring our treasure down a rathole.
Can't they just send the funds to Mr. Spencer and Fitzgerald instead?
It would do more good for us.
"a viable state that can co-exist with Israel" What a farce.
But finally today some optimistic information out of Israel, showing at least some vague remnant of a sign of anti dhimmitude. The article below out of Ynet should be studied all over the infidel world.

Kiryat Gat teens warned against dating Bedouins
Southern town's municipality holds 'emergency conference' aimed at 'preventing a disaster'. Police representatives say, 'Bedouin's goal is to take advantage of the girls'
Matan Tzuri
The Kiryat Gat municipality has decided to act against a phenomenon it has been dealing with for years: The southern town's female teenagers fall in love with young Bedouins and leave home.
An "emergency conference" held in the city on Sunday was aimed at "preventing a disaster," according to Haim Shalom, the conference's initiator, who heads the municipality's community, welfare and health department.
At the start of the conference, the organizers presented a 10-minute film titled 'Sleeping with the enemy'. The film included testimonies from young women whose Bedouin boyfriends did not let them return home after they asked to end the relationship.
During the conference, the organizers presented quotes which they claimed appeared in the Koran, such as "a woman can be beaten as long as her bones are not broken and no blood is spilled."
The Yad L'Achim non-profit organization handed out leaflets containing controversial messages at the entrance to the conference. The leaflet was titled, "One day he will break your heart and ruin your life. 500 cases. You don't want to be the 501st case."
The leaflet include s alleged quotes from the Koran: "One can beat and abandon a woman in order to ensure that she behaves in a disciplined manner", "The Muslim husband treats his wife like a slave" and "A Muslim wife is considered the husband's sole property."
According to the leaflet, "No matter how advanced and educated he is, this is the Muslim perception toward women, which he grew up on. Does this suit you?"
Representatives of the Kiryat Gat police also took part in the conference and addressed the audience.
"Their goal is to take advantage of the girls," the officers said. "There is no element of love or an innocent friendly relationship here."
Attorney Micha Gabai, a Kiryat Gat resident who presented the legal aspect of the phenomenon, was not as extreme as the other speakers.
"Let's not forget that there are also good Arabs. There are also Jews who act like these Bedouins," he said.
One of the reasons for the conference was the 2006 murder of 16-year-old Mika Dabab, whose body was found burned near the Bedouin community of Rahat. An investigation revealed that Dabab was romantically involved with a young Rahat resident, and tried to break up with him several days before she was murdered. The young man refused, kidnapped her from a discotheque and murdered her.
Rahat Mayor: Why use racism?
"We in the Bedouin sector do not encourage romantic relations between Bedouins and Jews as well. It hurts our families just like it hurts the Jews. It causes a lot of difficult problems and internal conflicts which often end in violence," Rahat Mayor Talal al-Krenawi said in response to the Kiryat Gat conference.
"If there are children as a result of these relationships, it becomes a burden on our society. The difference is that we oppose this just like the Jews, but we never used racist expressions.
"If a romantic relationship develops and it is pure and real, I would say that we live in a democratic country and that a person is allowed to live with whomever he wants. In any case, one can oppose something without presenting racist opinions."
As for the quotes from the Koran, al-Krenawi said, "All the quotes presented are not real and are absolute nonsense. On the contrary, the Koran supports women's rights and has said more than once that a woman must not be harmed.
"In general, the Koran does not present violent stances. I suggest to those who brought these quotes to go study before they write nonsense. The Koran is holy, and the person who wrote those quotes does not understand anything."
Here is a good start: Since the Israelis have arabs in their government - all aid is suspended until Israelis are included in the arab government of the West Bank.
Until the arabs include Israel as neighbor - screw them.
Give and give and give and give and give. Grovel. Grovel some more. Beg. Then give and give and give. Apologize, grovel and give and give and give.
Oh no, not another attempt by the Americans to export democracy. Has it ever worked, anywhere?
I don't think the world can stand much more or this.
Talk about not learning by experience.
I can only presume that the art of diplomacy has ceased to mean anything, and has now become a goal in itself.
Umm, Bush is claiming that going with Abbas offers the "prospect of an effective" government???
Where is even one shred of evidence that Abbas or any other Palestinian leader is capable of governing effectively?
Why is Bush peddling this nonsense? He must know that even if he squeezes Israel enough to sign a final status deal with Abbas, it won't be five years before the conflict is in full swing again.

Wow.. has he not seen the countless internet videos, mission statements by various Islamic groups, all calling for the destruction of Israel?
In order for a secular peace to work both sides must desire to end the bloodshed. Muslims in the Middle East have made it quite clear that they do not wish to end the bloodshed until Israel no longer exists. The Islamic definition of peace is "When EVERYBODY is a Muslim - then we will have 'peace.'"
So as long as the rest of the human races chooses not to be a Muslim - then Muslims will continue to wage a war of violence and oppression.
I wouldn't figure that concept would be too hard to get, too horrible to think about..yes, but not too hard to intellectual understand.
Agreeing with monkeywho.
I have read the Hamas Charter, and both PLO Charters (1964 and 1968) in their entirety. They are ugly documents. Hate and aggression steam off them, like heat off summer bitumen.
The Palestinian Muslims (and, sadly, at least some of their dhimmified Christian compatriots) will not be satisfied until the state of Israel is destroyed and all Jews therein have either been killed, driven out into exile, or reduced to virtual slaves (gotta have somebody to pay jizya and to do all the work). The Muslims are after nothing less than a second Shoah. They had a considerable hand in the first Shoah, when they succeeeded in pressuring the British to cut off Jewish immigration to 'Palestine' in 1939, thus condemning to death thousands of Jews who might otherwise have fled Nazi Europe by the south-east gateway.
Just out of curiosity: in anti-Israel propaganda, much is made of United States aid to Israel. In one sickening text that I read, the author identified Israel as Wicked King Ahab, the USA as Evil Queen Jezebel, and the Poor Palestinians as Naboth (conveniently forgetting that in the original story Naboth was a good Jew who wouldn't sell his land to the King because Torah Law forbade it).
How much aid, per capita, does Israel receive from the USA; as compared to how much, per capita, the 'Palestinians' receive from the same source?
Further - how much aid per capita do certain Arab Muslim states, and other Muslim countries such as Pakistan, receive from the USA?
And if one adds together the amount of aid by USA to 'Palestine' plus S Arabia, etc, etc, how does that compare to the amount given to Israel?
Honestly: might as well be hung for a sheep as for a lamb. The Muslims are all convinced the US is showering Israel with vast amounts of money, and not giving them (the Muslims) anything at all, so it really shouldn't make any difference if the US turns round and says, right, if that's what you THINK we're doing, we'll do it. No more guns, ammo, or one cent of jizya for you; we'll go to a war economy and do without your oil; and BTW we'll REALLY back Israel - you ain't seen nuthin yet, folks.
I will gather all the nations and bring them down to the valley of Jehoshaphat. Then I will enter into judgment with them there on behalf of My people and My inheritance Israel, whom they have scattered among the nations; and they have divided up My Land" (Joel 3:1-2).
God's ancient promise in Genesis 12:3 is still very much in effect: "I will bless those who bless you, and the one who curses you I will curse."
Mr.Bush brings curses upon the US by his actions.
Hey Dumbledore!
Glad to see you here. I got Yaacov Lozowick's book out of the library and am finding it very useful and fascinating. In fact, he has an about-to-go-extinct blog, and when I posted a comment on there he sent me his e-mail spontaneously with a very nice note, so now I have a chance to ask him what he thinks of some of the developments since he wrote the book. If you Google his interview with Michael Totten last summer, you'll be interested. I was a bit surprised by some of his opinions there, esp. about unilateral disengagement at the very end, and I'll be interested to see what more he has to say about it.
I agree with everything you say here. I would only add that we shd. definitely open up the Alaskan pipeline full throttle, as it were. No sense tying oil independence to environmentalism so tightly, IMO.
But you beat me to it concerning the comparison between the amounts of money. I saw a truly vile article linked from LGF last week or the week before (LGF was deploring it, of course) talking about "the cost of aid to Israel." It was horrible and pathetic. It started with an admitted $3 million in "open" aid (which is a drop in the bucket compared to the amounts Bush is talking about here to Palestinian terrorists, too) and then went on to talk a bunch of rubbish about how the need for the U.S. oil reserve is all the fault of our support for Israel, so the cost of the oil reserve is to be chalked up to Israel's account, how we have a trade deficit with Israel, and on and on. It was _so_ stretched to find some large-sounding dollar figure they could say was the "cost" of our support for Israel.
As for their wanting another Shoah, boy is that right. I was reading a blog discussion of what conservatives would do if there were (hypothetically speaking) Muslims battering at the gate vs. extremely socially liberal people governing the "city"--the hypothetical question was, how bad would the social liberals inside have to get before you gave the keys of the city to the Mullah outside? Speaking as someone _very_ socially conservative, I basically said, "Are you kidding? Of course I'd resist what I considered to be the evils of the social liberals, but I would _never_ give the keys of the city to the Muslims battering the gate." I also pointed out that this would, in essence, amount to handing over the Jews within the gates to a Nazi-like group--obviously an evil act.
