The EU is far more anxious to pronounce takfir against the jihadists -- that is, declare that they are not Muslims -- than are the jihadists' fellow Muslims. And that's just one reason why this intellectual straitjacket is stupid, and suicidal, unless it is thrown off in time. But right now, Gordon Brown is happy to oblige the EU dhimmicrats.
"Europe Tells Britain: Don't Say 'Muslims,'" by Alison Little for the Daily Express (thanks to all who sent this in):
Secret EU guidelines have been drawn up warning governments not to link Islam and terrorism. The politically correct directives are believed to be behind ministers not using words such as “Muslim’’ about Britain’s terrorism crisis.
Yesterday the Daily Express reported how Gordon Brown’s ministers had been told to avoid inflammatory language when speaking about the attempted car bomb attacks in London and Glasgow.
Neither the Prime Minister in a major interview nor Home Secretary Jacqui Smith in the Commons referred to Muslims or Islam.
Last night critics pointed to a classified EU document sent out to all European governments offering “non-offensive’’ phrases to use when discussing terrorism.
Banned terms were said to include “jihad’’, “Islamic’’ or “fundamentalist”.
EU officials said the “common lexicon’’ aimed to stop the distortion of the Muslim faith and alienation of its followers in Europe. European governments had previously agreed on the need to develop a “non-emotive lexicon’’ for use in discussion to avoid “exacerbating division’’.
Gerard Batten, a UK Independence Party MEP, claimed Ms Smith’s statement was “evidence that the Government is now cutting its suit to suit the European Commission’s cloth’’. He is demanding that the full lexicon be published.
But the Home Office insisted: “The Home Secretary uses her own words. She did not draw on any other source.’’
Even Labour former Foreign Office Minister Denis MacShane said yesterday that “Islamist’’ was an “accurate description’’ of the ideology behind the terror attacks....Hugo Robinson, of Open Europe thinktank, said: “Brussels has no place telling national governments how they should deal with the real and immediate threat of terrorism: The EU’s so-called non-emotive lexicon won’t do anything to stop dangerous extremists targeting Britain.’’
A Foreign Office source insisted the “common lexicon’’ was not an exercise in “political correctness’’ but an attempt to find a “common vocabulary and definitions’’ for statements about terrorism.
Sure.
Funny, I was just thinking about this issue when this post appeared. I was ruminating on how surprised people are when I mention Gordon Brown's recent edict along these lines. They simply don't know about it, and are always dumbfounded.
Ostriches. Heads. Sand.
All those who have been skeptical about the mateial presented -- the secret covenants, secretly arrived at -- by Bat Ye'or in her "Eurabia" might consider at this point re-reading that book, and understand the point it was making. They should look around, look at how splendidly members, both Muslim and non-Muslim collaborators, forming an Islamintern International, have penetrated and risen high in the U.N., and in various NGOs, and in those academic departments and fields that concern themselves with teaching about Islam, or "comparative religion," or Middle Eastern history, or current events in which Islam's role is or should be so obvious (as in the Lesser Jihad against Israel). A conspiracy does not requre a unified group. It does not require a group conscious of other members of that group. It merely requires, in the case of Islam, that those who are Muslims act, in a fashion that need not be co-ordinated, to protect Islam from scrutiny, to use every kind of taqiyya-and-tu-quoque argument available as part of the non-stop fog machine, and to enroll ignorant or wilfully denying Infidels in the same campaign -- enrolled because they want, at all costs, not to recognize unpleasant truths that, once recognized, would demand to be dealt with in ways that appear to them too complicated, or too difficult, to possibly propose.
Failures of will and failures of intellect. It happens with other things too, but not on such a scale, and not with such clear and disastrous results -- and not at a time, when there is still time, to handle things at far less human, and civilizational, cost.
Our elites need a little more circulation. You don't have to be Pareto to understand that.
In code g. brown, "sneaky little sand monkeys who worship allah." Wink wink g. brown. The people will never know.
"... offering “non-offensive’’ phrases to use when discussing terrorism...."
....terrorism is offensive...non offensive prases do not apply....
...it is past time to take off the gloves and call terrorism by any offensive terms that apply...
...if it is a duck...call it a duck....
...are we surrounded by political imbeciles?...
.....terrorism is violent, Islam uses terrorism, see how easy it is to say that....
It was curious how that beetlelike type proliferated in the Ministries: little dumpy men, growing stout very early in life, with short legs, swift scuttling movements, and fat inscrutable faces with very small eyes. It was the type that seemed to flourish best under the dominion of the Party.
Like this is going to help. Until the leaders of the West address the root cause which is Islam, they will never get a handle on the problem.
This is a tactic that will succeed in the furthering of Islamic jihad and the eventual downfall of western culture it is a winning strategy for those who seek the destruction of western civilization.
Trying to look on the bright side here - this takes things to such an extreme that it has the potential to maybe wake some people up the lengths that our governments are willing to go to place Muslim sensitivities above national security.
It is obvious that there are many people who believe that this is a tiny minority of extremists or that they are angry about the Palestinians or about the war in Iraq, or they are angry about poor economic opportunities or whatever - but even these people know that these are in fact Muslims for God's sake!
So when the political authorities start issuing Orwellian guidelines to not state something that is so bloody obvious to everyone, I just wonder whether that is SUCH an affront to common sense that it might not backfire altogether by pissing off alot of people that may have been willing to entertain one or another "grievance theory" explanation for why Muslims are engaging in terrorism but will not be willing to be treated like an utter fool.
You never know what it takes to wake some people up. I was surprised by the impact of the cartoon jihad in waking up so many people. Evidently it was the assault on free speech that did it for many. This is also an assault on free speech not to mention a huge insult to the intelligence of the average citizen. Might this not make the average citizen just a wee bit angry?

As long as you're not hurting anyone's feelings.
Here is a statement issued by the Committee Against Hurt Feelings Everywhere:
"If you are not sure if saying the sky is blue might hurt someone's feelings, it is best to refrain from saying it. While it may be an acceptable belief in your own community, in today's multicultural society, you can no longer assume that saying such things will not hurt someone else's feelings. ______ is the most multicultural city in the world and we want our great immigrant communities to feel respected and welcomed for their tremendous contribution.

Terrorism has a name, and it's....umm....uh....
...those trans-racial, pan-ethnic persons of (non) color who may or may not be from one of those countries that we can't name because we don't want to single them out. Well, glad to finally get that one hashed out. Now I know who to watch out for. Does anybody have a picture of one of these pan-ethnic, trans-racial persons so I can easily identify them? No? Hmmm, what to do....what to do...
"Islamophobes of the world, Unite!"
"Stop Muslim immigration now!"

Thoughts for today:
1) All animals are equal; some animals are more equal.
2) You have not converted a man because you have silenced him;
Ridiculous, isn't it ?
Is there any politician out there with the balls to call a spade a spade, and a muslim terrorist a muslim ?
Anywhere ?
This attempt to hide the truth must be ridiculed at every opportunity. It, in all of its arrogance and delusion, is such a fat target. Let's talk it up with friends co-workers, and those political figures who supposedly "work" for us.
MP: "This attempt to hide the truth must be ridiculed at every opportunity."
I know that most readers/posters here are regular readers of LGF but just in case, this satire by Iowahawk posted there shouldn't be missed:
"UK Warning: Look Out For People Doing Things"
http://iowahawk.typepad.com/iowahawk/2007/07/uk-warning-look.html
Especially funny lines:
"The elevated alert levels come on the heels of a "week when London and Glasgow narrowly escaped potential events that intelligence experts say may have been related to diverse groups of people doing things. Initially police had specifically asked the public for information relating to doctors driving automobiles, but that initial warning brought angry denunciations from the British Medical Association and the UK Automobile Association.
"This directive unfairly singles out and targets British medical professionals, a great many of whom are loyal and patriotic citizens," complained Dr. Hamish Meldrum, chairman of the BMA.
"Sir Trevor Chinn, Chairman of the UKAA, warned that the earlier directive would "spark a backlash against the British motoring community and promote a climate of fear and carophobia."
"On Tuesday, new British Prime Minister Gordon Brown met with representatives of the medical and car communities and announced that the government would henceforth prohibit occupational and transportational profiling by public officials. Brown said further government communications would prohibit the use of certain prejudicial words like "doctor," "Vauxhall," "podiatrist," "propane," "Asia," "drive," "ticking noises," "panic," and "the." Brown also announced the formation of a blue ribbon multicultural community advisory board chaired by Dr. Mohammed Ibn-Yasin of the UK Islamic Podiatric and Car Bombing Club."
I have the perfect answer to this controversy.
If the security services are to dedicate themselves to the protection of the sensibilities of ethnic minorities, at the expense of the safety of the population at large, then let their "services" be paid for by those who benefit.
Also, let those services be disestablished as public services, because they will serve no such function. Thus they are entitled to no public recognition, or judicial influence. (After all, if they want to run protection rackets for the muslims, why shouldn't we treat them like common gangsters.)
Meanwhile the rest of us can start from scratch. Free from the jizya obligation, we might even have a chance of building a good society in our own homeland. I propose we should call it England.

No, sorry you may not say that the sky is blue.
Some people in this world are only gray shade able. Saying that the sky is blue disenfranchise them and makes them feel different. Not that there is anything wrong with only seeing in shades of gray. I once had a friend who was "color blind". He said he got along ok, but then again it's always greener on the other side of the fence.
h.beale - LOL!
Did Orwell expect that Islam would help bring "1984" into being?
I believe the great historian of religions, Mircea Eliade, some thirty or more years ago worried that Europe would be lost to Islam. I think something to that effect is in one of his memoirs or journals.

All political thinking for years past has been vitiated in the same way. People can foresee the future only when it coincides with their own wishes, and the most grossly obvious facts can be ignored when they are unwelcome.

Political chaos is connected with the decay of language... one can probably bring about some improvement by starting at the verbal end.

There are some ideas so wrong that only a very intelligent person could believe in them.

This person laughs that Britain isn't British even now. That muslims control Parliment, House of Lords, all of Britain and that muslims rule. The views of Britain's non-muslims no longer count.
What will happen when his snide statements come true?
Dhimmitude for Brits.
exsgtbrown wrote: "... are we surrounded by political imbeciles?..."
Indeed we ARE surrounded by political imbeciles, and oathbreakers, traitors and quislings.
European politicians are allowing Europe to be conquered in slow motion by the Musulmen, meanwhile, here in the US our treasonous bastard politicians are encouraging the invasion of the US by the Mexicans.
When the "civil war" begins, will we be able to say out loud who is MURDERING us???
That's it...
I now declare the EU to be in violation of the human right to Free Speech.
EU = Terrorist Group.
“A Foreign Office source insisted the “common lexicon’’ was not an exercise in “political correctness’’ but an attempt to find a “common vocabulary and definitions’’ for statements about terrorism.”
Why do we need a “common vocabulary and definitions”? So the EU is at last making it absolutely clear it’s telling us what to think. Haven’t these idiots ever read Orwell?
What were they then?
"Haven’t these idiots ever read Orwell?" - JFGR
Yes, but as has been pointed out before, they understand it to be an instruction manual, and not a cautionary tale.
