EU to adopt passenger profiling…sort of

Finally, a step in the right direction. "Terrorism: European Union Plans Passenger Profiling," from AKI :

Brussels, 3 July (AKI) - An airline passenger data recording system for the whole of the European Union is among new measures being prepared by the European Commission, justice and security commissioner Franco Frattini announced on Tuesday in Brussels. The plan will offer all member states the option of establishing "national databases of passengers from across the world who fly through their airspace."

It is hard to believe that it took the EU almost six years since 9/11 to start getting its house in order…a little.

Frattini is also drafting legislation that will make it a crime to post bomb-making instructions to the Internet, he said.

In "Website bomb-making lessons to be outlawed across Europe," the Times Online adds:

Internet service providers (ISPs) would face charges if they failed to block websites containing bomb-making instructions generated anywhere in the world, EU officials said.

"It should simply not be possible to leave people free to instruct other people on the internet on how to make a bomb - that has nothing to do with freedom of expression," Mr Frattini said yesterday.

Back to AKI:

Washington and the EU late last month agreed to share transatlantic passenger data. The accord covers such information as booking details, traveling companions and travel history. A passenger's frequent flyer miles, credit card number, email address and telephone number could all be made available to the US authorities.

Requests for a special meal appear unless they indicate the passenger's race or religion, in which case the data will not be provided under the deal, which has sparked criticism on civil liberties grounds.

The US government demanded access to information about everyone flying to the US from the EU in the wake of al-Qaeda's 11 September 2001 attacks on American cities.

The EU is missing the point. I can't recall the last time a Christian or Jewish suicide bomber tried to take down a commercial aircraft. If the EU plans to establish a profiling program then it can't ignore the role that religion plays in the story. Religion is the driver. To ignore it is nothing short of negligence.

Profile if you must, but please don't offend them by insinuating that they might be Muslim terrorists!

Until Muslims stop their insane violent tendencies, profiling is a must.....

Requests for a special meal appear unless they indicate the passenger's race or religion, in which case the data will not be provided under the deal

But this is an important security alert item, and is being deliberately excluded for fear of Muslims.

Fear of Muslims has been the main driver in this war. Fear to publish cartoons, fear to criticise Islam, and now the new PM of the UK, to even mention Muslims and terrorists in the same sentence. Pathetic.

EU bureaucrats are idiots. Not providing data doesn't give privacy, because the mere fact of the omission tells you something: the passenger is either Muslim or Jewish. Except for the extremely rare Arab Jew, their name will tell you which is which. For anti-semitic EU dhimmicrats this may be the point, since we know they won't be profiling Muslims.

What special meal would indicate race?

Borg, you beat me to it! I was just asking myself what special meal would identify you're black?

If the muslims knew we were looking especially hard at those who insist there is no pork, then they would eat pork to stump us. They would say 'it is ok since killing the infidel is more important to allah'.

Keep in mind that the 19 who did 9/11 ate, drank and were merry in Las Vegas and other shadey activities. They look at anything, any sin, they do before they become shahid as ok since all will be forgiven afterward.

I read stuff like this and know that people still don't know our enemy.

This is the big rule put out by the big MO - 'war is deception'.

I'd congratulate the EU on this move except for the fact it took SIX years for this to happen. When it takes that long to implement common sense (and only after a lot of mindless soul searching and hand wringing) then it's no wonder why the enemy feels that victory is ultimately theirs.

Firstly note:

The plan will offer all member states the option of establishing "national databases of passengers..."

It's only optional!

Secondly, does Requests for a special meal appear unless they indicate the passenger's race or religion, in which case the data will not be provided under the deal... mean that the authorities will a take special interest in vegetarians but ignore religious muslims eating halal? Those bloody vegetarians, they should all be shot!

Living in the UK I can tell you that the Irish have been profiled throughout the 30 year IRA campaign. There has never been a murmur of protest anywhere it was just commonsense.
Isn't it an indication of the political clout of Muslims that Europe is still dragging its feet?

Why not use reverse profiling?

Anyone who is a non-Muslim should be segregated and forced to travel seperately from Muslims.

(And I bet not one of them would complain.)

small steps. small steps. it's a start.
