DEARBORN -- The U.S. Treasury Department on Tuesday declared a Dearborn-based charity a front for the terrorist organization Hezbollah as FBI agents shut the group's offices and carted away boxes of records.FBI agents raided the offices of Goodwill Charitable Organization Inc. on West Warren Avenue near Schaefer Road. They also raided the nearby offices of the Al-Mabarrat Charitable Organization on Schaefer, though the Treasury Department did not designate Al-Mabarrat as a Hezbollah front, and the FBI allowed its offices to remain open.
Nobody was arrested or charged at either charity and area Muslim leaders urged the public not to rush to judgment.
The FBI in Detroit has used a strategy of fighting terrorism by attacking terrorists' suspected funding sources and Tuesday's move against Goodwill Charitable Organization is part of that effort.
In a 2005 filing with the Internal Revenue Service, the Goodwill Charitable Organization said it helps the poor, not specifying whether the help is given at home or abroad.
But the Treasury Department said the group -- which has no connection with Goodwill Industries of Greater Detroit -- is the Dearborn arm of the Iranian Martyrs Foundation, a group with offices in Lebanon and elsewhere that the U.S. government said funds the designated terrorist groups Hezbollah, Hamas and Islamic Jihad and aids Palestinian suicide bombers and their families.
Hezbollah and Hamas are active in Lebanon, while Islamic Jihad is based in Syria. All three are militant Islamic groups opposed to Israel with links to Iran.
Some area Arabs and Muslims consider Hezbollah and Hamas resistance fighters, not terrorists, though groups such as the Council on American Islamic Relations recognize the terrorist designations and urge Muslims not to support the groups.
I want the FBI now to do the same here in Bridgeview, Illinois next.
That pigmosque is a warehouse of weapons waiting to be used and too close to my 'hood.
All mosques, as muslims, are commanded to further the cause of islam whether it is using weapons, or storing them for future use.

Hungarian, I think you are correct. If I hadn't read their koran I probably would have thought the opposite, but now I know that it is nothing but a book of battle tactics against us. And I have also read somewhere that an imam's main duty is to preach jihad.
Also of note is that the Goodwill Industries have sent them cease and desist letters asking them to stop using the trademarked name, "Goodwill."
I can only conclude that this is an attempt by GCO to dupe unsuspecting good-hearted Americans out of their hard earned cash.

Human beings have always been in competition with each other and will always be in competition with each other. In good times, the competition may be for the good-looking girl, for the job promotion, or for an elected office. In bad times, the competition is for things like food, water, and maybe one day oil. Competition in bad times is less civil than competition in good times.
The people who argue that multiculturalism will end conflict are wrong. It will just make conflict more up close and personal. The sooner a Constitutional Amendment is introduced to remove First Amendment protections from Islam and declare it as a corrupt racketeering organization, the better off everybody will be.
Islam is a cult posing as a religion so it should not have any protections under the 1st Amendment.
Come on now, in any islamic society anywhere today there is no equivalent of rights or amendments so why let them use our laws against us?
It is time to outlaw islam or at least reclassify it as a death cult.

Charity a front for Hizbollah in Dearbornistan?
I am absolutely flummoxed by this news.

The Goodwill Charitable Organization is indeed small potatoes and has had declining revenues since 2000.

Their exempt purpose listed as "Providing assistance to poor people."
Their activities for the year are described as "Providing assistance to the unfortunate people in need of emergency medical attention and support of living expenses (community service)."
It appears that the same 3 directors have controlled the organization since formation.
The Detroit News article states that on the "charity's" 2005 IRS filing, no mention is made of whether the community services are performed at home or abroad. However, a change in the Form 990 for 2005 now provides a checkbox to indicate if any of the grants made were foreign. The box was not checked, indicating that the organization is representing that the money was spent in the US.
Debbie Schlussel mentions the Al-Mubarat Charitable Organization as being the larger organization that was left untouched (no assets frozen). Al Mubarat is indeed a much larger organization, with revenues of nearly a million dollars in 2004.
Al-Mubarat filed an incomplete Form 990 with the IRS, failing to fill out major portions of the form and failing to attach required schedules. Another indication of thumbing their noses at the law.
No doubt the forms filed by both organizations bear little resemblance to reality.

The search function isn't particularly good. I had a hard time finding the Al-Mubarat filings because Guidestar had the name spelled Al-Mubarrat in their database.
Recent events (in particular)have convinced me that not only is our government not looking out for our best interest, it is actively working toward our demise, while publicly claiming the opposite. Charities are important because they allow the people to solve their own problems and not rely totally on the government. What a shame that the community of charitable organizations remains so quiet while their form of operation is so abused.

How interesting that the reporter would mention CAIR in this article without including its status as an unindicted co-conspirator in a Hamas funding case. Did he think that of no significance in an article about an Islamic charity's funding of a terrorist group? Instead, he gave CAIR a free plug, even going so far as to imply they condemn terrorist groups such as Hezbollah and Hamas.

Excuse me? Did I read that right? The US Treasury and the FBI did not designate the Al-Mabarrat Charitable Organisation as a front organisation raising funds for Hezbollah?
This organisation sounds suspiciously familiar. Could it be linked to the Al-Mabbarrat Charity Association, founded by Sayyed Mohammed Hussein Fadlallah in Lebanon in 1978? The same Grand Ayatollah Fadlallah who, when spiritual leader to Hezbollah, was widely believed to have issued the fatwa sanctioning the 1983 bombing of the US Marine Corps base in Beirut, killing 241 people.
And they did not regard this as a Hezbollah front?
So much for the myth of the moderate Muslim? When is the world going to face it...where ever Islam goes, support for terrorists follow.

You have got to live here in Metro Detroit to really understand just how well people are so ignorant of Islam. But what really surprised me was that the Detroit News and local news media actually made this a headline.
Sounds like Michigan is becoming a real Mecca for such news.

I live here and I cant stand this area ! extremely rude , non english speaking buisness owners everywere [at least they dont speak it when I'm around } these people have taken over so much that in places you might think your in iraq!from billboards to street signs and buisness signs all in arabic , I personnally avoid these areas whenever possible , and never give them my buisness ! I drive out of my way to find a real american store that apreciates my american money ! and now they want to put thousands more iraqi refugees in warren ? A year ago I blogged about three men from Dearborn, caught in Ohio with many cell phones and (two of them) thousands of dollars.
