A technical point, Robert, (with great respect and not wishing to detract from the humour of your remark!): assuming these doctors were working for the National Health Service as hospital doctors, which appears to be the case, they would not need to worry about failing practices as they would be salaried employees of the NHS. (The NHS is an extremely PC organisation and the political embarrassment will make an interesting sideshow to all this.)

There is an interesting and, I think, encouraging aspect to this situation.

Many people living in the towns and cities where the muslim population is large (London, Bradford, Oldham, Burnley etc.) have long been aware of the growing threat.

However, in many areas of Britain - especially rural Britain - the PC/multicultural brigade has had a willing and persuadable audience, simply because that audience has not been directly affected by the "Londonistan Effect".

These Brits (perhaps the majority of the population) have not felt threatened by gangs of muslim 'youths' on the street, have not seen areas nearby become a foreign ghetto, do not have a mosque in their neighbourhood, do not see 'halal' signs on their local butcher shop. Sure, they may read the Daily Mail and agree with it in principle; sure, they may see the hijab on TV and express an opinion. But it isn't in their backyard, it isn't personal, it doesn't affect their lives. So they have stayed asleep.

BUT .... and this is the encouraging part ..... almost every single one of them, at some time in the past thirty years, will have been seen by a doctor who is Pakistani or Iraqi or Iranian or Jordanian. These doctors are spread (thickly) throughout the NHS, and therefore throughout the country, and have been for two generations.

This could 'bring it home' to so many; make them 'sit up and take notice' - maybe even 'wake them up'.

Nothing like having a trained medical professional to help you (The West) slit your own throat so you bleed out properly...

Official profiling? They'd sue so fast and have the government reveal each and every factor they use in assessing risk. Of course it would be for discovery, but the papers would be happy to print it.

The Supreme Court - someday they'll say immigration laws are a violation of human rights. Will he be able to learn the full identity of his physician?

May he ask to meet with that physician beforehand?

May he ascertain that physician's experience?

May the patient inquire as to religion of the physician?

May he inquire as to Politics?

May that citizen refuse a physician with whom he has no, or little faith in the doctor's professional skills, or feels generally uncomfortable?

Perhaps because the doctor is muslim?

You are just not being fair! Dr Mohammed Ashr’s father back in Jordan has been interviewed on British TV and said his son is a devout muslim who could never be a terrorist! He just came to Britain to further his training and his father is appealing to the King to help him.

There might be a problem here, I think the British civil liberties lobby will not allow terror suspects be returned to Jordan because it’s not safe for them.

I would disagree with the execution plan in this instance; this person really needs to suffer for his actions and death would be a release from the mental torment and physical pain he’s inflicted on himself. It will even distort the perceptions of people trained in the sciences where skepticism and doubt are essential to logical thinking. I think we must be skeptical re Divine governance and presence in the universe, and skeptical re serendipity as well. Beliefs treated as facts are a narcotic that closes the mind.

On a separate matter: I have been thinking re Karen Armstrong's description of Muhammad as the peacemaker in Arabia. That is like describing Vito or Michael Corleone as peacemakers with the five families. The early history of Don Muhammad and Islam is Desert Godfather. Armstrong is another example of beliefs acting as a narcotic on the open mind. The open mind is open to the facts, to critical analysis of facts. (There is no equivalence between the peacemaking of Jesus and Don Muhammad, e.g. To believe that is to believe in an absurdity. It is contrary to the facts.)

Re Don Muhammad: I think one could make a movie that parodies the Godfather movie with Islam. In such a movie the "peacemaker" eliminates all his rivals, as in the Godfather. In the end, Don Muhammad, who takes dictation from god, has everyone bowing to Las Vegas after the Muslims kill Moe Green.

David, imagine my alarm when I had a wuslim anesthesiologist for my surgery last year! I told the hubby to keep an eye on my recovery so he'd know whom to sue! Fortunately, I think since we was a western convert, he still believed in the oath.

Freud long ago noted that physicians were akin to murderers (but their more pathological impulses had been sublimated for the betterment of society). Does the Koran enable potential killers to sublimate those killer impulses? Perhaps for some, perhaps not for others. (Does the Koran loosen, rather than strengthen, the bonds of broad, universal, societal goals? Rather than exercising discipline and restraint, it becomes a means to loosen societal requirements. Thus, if you want to become a mass murderer, no problem, you can use "jihad" as the excuse.)

Another irony, of course, is that Britain's "academics" are boycotting Israeli academics. I think that the far more worthy nation to be subject to an academic boycott is the UK. I don't want to see UK "academics" here. And I don't think the UK should be training Muslims as biochemists, nuclear researchers, etc. And so long as Britain continues to train such people, the greater the need for an academic boycott.

It seems a rational response to begin checking whether these doctors past patients died of suspicious causes.

Could extremist Muslim doctors/nurses/aids who wanted to blow non-Muslims up be also secretly murdering/misdiagnosing/harming patients? It is a rational question, especially since UK polls indicate that a large portion of the Muslim population (was is 1/3 believes murdering non-Muslims is an acceptable political response to their countries foreign policy).

Given this situation, I don't think it would be bigoted at all to refuse treatment from Muslim doctors and nurses. Yes, most are good honest people wanting to do good on this earth, however given the behaviour of their coreligionists, we non-Muslims are getting justifiably worried about all Muslims.
