Shocked -- shocked! -- to discover a jihadist in the family. From the Evening Standard (thanks to all who sent this in):
They spent yesterday being questioned at at a high-security police station after they were dramatically arrested on the M6 at the weekend.Junior doctor Mohammed Asha, 26, and his university-graduate wife Marwah were held because he is suspected of playing a key role in the car bomb plot.
But yesterday their families expressed bewilderment at the suggestion that they could be terrorists. Dr Asha's family said he loved Britain, while his wife's tearful parents said their daughter was innocent.
Saudi-born Dr Asha, who grew up in Jordan, was training to be a neurosurgeon at the University Hospital of North Staffordshire in Stoke-on-Trent, while his 27-year-old wife looked after their twoyear- old son Anaf at their suburban home in Newcastle- under-Lyme.
Hospital colleagues said they were 'astonished' that the well-respected, quiet doctor could be accused of plotting mass murder.
"My son is incapable of such acts," said Dr Asha's father Jamil Abdelkader Asha from his modest home in Amman, Jordan.
"My son was happy in Britain, he was always telling us. He didn't feel he was the brunt of any negative sentiment as an Arab or a Muslim, on the contrary.
"And he is not the type to get involved in political issues – at university he wasn't even a member of any student unions. He is a devout Muslim like the rest of us, but he is not extremely religious. He didn't have time for religion because he was always studying."
How interesting that Asha père equates the intensity of one's Islamic religious commitment with the possibility that he might become a jihad terrorist. This is an equation that no Western public figure would dare to make. Has Old Man Asha been hauled before the "Islamophobia" tribunal yet?
"He is a devout Muslim like the rest of us."
Guess that kinda sums it up doen't it ?
I also find it interesting that the son had expressed happiness and satisfaction with Britain. Does that negate the alienation-produces-jihadis-theory, which only once again lays blame at the feet of the West?
Cinder
"He is a devout Muslim like the rest of us, but he is not extremely religious."
How are you devout without being religious?
"He didn't have time for religion because he was always studying."
So what makes him devout?
And what was he studying - the Quran?
Guess we know more about islam than they do.
Shouldn't they all be aware of the duty of jihad?
Aren't most of their imams saying this is the right thing to do?
Jamil Abdelkader Asha said:
"He is a devout Muslim like the rest of us, but he is not extremely religious. "
It struck me when reading about the American Taliban. A young muslim who goes on a "religious journey" will end up with a AK-47 in his hand. A devout Muslim has contempt for and is compelled to attack non-Muslims. We see this over and over again. Its a fact and we in the West need to deal in facts. PC blinders need to come off.
"My son was happy in Britain, he was always telling us
- Yes, I bet he'd come home every day from work and say to his family...
"Woopee-doo, I love this country, hell yes I do, Britain is so great, yup yup, I'm so incredibly happy to live here, Britain is the best country in the world! I'm so lucky to live here in this great land. I'm just so so happy, like I've overdosed on some NHS prozac or something! woohoo!"
I very much doubt this. Hence, when the family says how he was 'always' saying how he was happy to be in Britain, I am convinced that the family are lying.
We should be asking muslims, 'why do you guys follow a murdering thug like Mohammed'? Even those 'moderate' muslims need to be asked that. If they start realizing what they are following then maybe they can start getting a clue as to why a family member would follow the big Mo's words and deeds more closely.
I am convinced that the family are lying.

In a number of the terrorist investigations in the US. The family will end up perjuring themselves. It's comical how quik Muslims resort to lying.
My immediate response -- perhaps way wrong -- is that the family is honestly bewildered. The implication that some Muslim parents might be convinced to leave the fold if they come to understand what Islam really is.
More and more, I think we should take the position that we agree with Muslims in one respect: that legal treatment of Islam should be different from the legal treatment of other religions. In our case, though, the opinion is that civil rights law should not pertain to Islam and that first amendment clauses pertaining to "religion" should not, either.
Yes, the change would cause terrorism. But terrorism when Muslims are 1.5 percent of the population is far less of a problem; and perhaps the change in legal status would give us a way to start restricting Islamic immigration and even find ways to deport citizens. God willing.
I will not leave a comment on this site for absolute FEAR of sounding like an Islamophobe.
Nah, just kidding!
I am SOOOOO tired of this response to questions about IZLAMIC TERRORISTS (Oooh, the horror! Don't call them Muzlim!).
Why do our reporters even bother? Just film a short bit of the relative, and merge with previous audio involving the questions, dubbing over the older names used.
"My son, ____, could never..." Just make sure there's appropriate pauses around the name, and you're in business!
You could even add a laugh track...
So naturally we shoud be increasing the number of students we allow into our country from muslim lands. /sarc
This should be a wake up call for the INS to revoke the visa and deport (assuming they can find them) all muslim students in this country. And we should be looking particularly close at med students.
"My son was happy in Britain, he was always telling us. He didn't feel he was the brunt of any negative sentiment as an Arab or a Muslim, on the contrary."
Yes the west is a very tolerent place, unlike the Islamic world. Racism is in check ... unlike the Islaic world.
You Arabs, and Muslims are doing your best to try and undo all of that though. Ever hear the phrase, "One bad apple"? As this escelates ... and it will you Muslims will have nobody to blame but yourselves when you loose everything ... life, liberty, property, freedom. The west will do what it needs to preserve itself.
When America leaves Iraq on whatever terms. It will be viewed as a victory for Islam all over the world. There is a high probability that this will change all of the rules of engagement on both sides ... one reacting off of another, because thimes they are a changin'.
"And he is not the type to get involved in political issues....He didn't have time for religion because he was always studying."
IOW, Islam is the gateway to radical political activism.
Michael Kinsley once said that "A gaffe is when you accidentally tell the truth."
This dad just committed a gaffe.
Oh, they're always "incapable."
Yet, actual world events tell a different story.
Reality, anyone?
The Islamic families of captured jihadists always tell the same story. 'My little boy Abu could not be a terrorist, he is a good boy, only interested in Islamic studies, soccer, and girls. Otherwise he is a normal boy and not a trouble maker.'
Yes, and I bet he sings in the mosque choir as well.
Didn't all the members of the Saudi 911 hijackers parents say the exact same things? No way could their son do this? ok then. it really must have been an inside job then, cause no Muslim would harm anybody. lol
"...only interested in Islamic studies, soccer, and girls. Otherwise he is a normal boy..."
Because an interest in soccer and girls make you ABNORMAL to muzlims?
What IS this guy really trying to say? A gaffe is right, because I don't like what I'm reading here.
And his mama sez: "He would never do a thing like that"
And his daddy sez: "He would never do a thing like that"-
And his sister sez: 'He was a good muslim'
and his brother sez: 'He was a good muslim'
And the nutroots will continue to report this schlock until the lights turn blue. And blame US for Muhammedan madness.
Why are there only complete A-holes working in the MSM?

His father admits his son's radicalism here. Notice his son is innocent not because of his Islamic world view but rather because of incapacity. (He was busy at the bank so he could not blow up the stage coach). His son could not have done this because he is "Incapable because he is not political." His father does not say he could not have done this because he lacks a religious motive. He did not say Islam forbids this.
Dad says his son could not have been plotting to kill the infidel because his son was too busy and happy studying infidel medicine. This is a flimsy denial from another liar. Dad is probably proud of his verminous son.
“He is a devout Muslim like the rest of us, but he is not extremely religious.” From the article above
So he’s not a part of the tiny minority of extremists he is actually part of the large majority of moderates? It is beginning to look like there is a tiny minority of non islamists. The difference between Christianity and islam is, in Christianity Jim Jones is an aberration, in islam Jim Jones is the norm. My survey says, 9 out of 10 Manson family members agree, islam is peace, as in rest in peace. Ya hear that Mr. President, helter skelter baby.

Since I posted the quote on the top, I have no idea what you are complaining about. Please explain...
Well -- the more devout a Muslim becomes -- the more violent and radical his/her actions will be.
What's wrong with this picture?
The father is lying. When I was a young foolish socialist, everyone in my family knew it. We'd debate politics and I'd froth at the mouth over the evils of American imperialism ... and other rubbish.
Sure the father wants to save his foolish son, but don't believe that he did not know his son was an extremist. Lots of people likely knew and did nothing to report it to the authorities.
This reminds me of the unibomber who was caught only when his brother read the unibomber manifesto and told police that "it sounded like what my brother use to say."
He said 'he was not the brunt of negative sentiment'.
Muslims are not being descriminated against. They are choosing to attack the west from inside the west.
Rocks and trees talked to the big mo foe, he was married to a 6 year old. Kind of leads me to believe that mohammed asha, with the priviledges that he had, must have, like the big mo foe, been doing some magic mushrooms.
"My son was happy in Britain, he was always telling us."
Of course he was happy. He was thinking that with that many infidels all around him, how could he miss? The 72 virgins were "in the bag" so to speak. (Which brings up an interesting question. Do the virgins of paradise have to wear burkas?)
The other excuses are
1. He is innocent
2. He was influenced by other people - "radical" preachers in the mosque.
3. The Jews did it - this is always believable in the Muslim world.
duh_swami,
Just saying WE would consider an interest in soccer & girls normal for our sons, and the FATHER's implying it's abnormal.
He certainly makes his case FOR jihad quite apparent just with that li'l comment.
That's all...shoulda been clearer in my post!
Miss_Anthrope...The father did not say anything about soccer that I know of, I was sarcastically refering to the collective muslim parent's, who alway's defend their innocent jihadist children...It should have been I who could have been clearer...thanks
And what was he studying - the Quran?

"He is a devout Muslim like the rest of us."
That's should be enough for a deportation order.
I'm sure the same would be said by the father of al-zawahiri, too...lol...

I could possibly believe that the mother would not know anything because as Islamic women, unless they are specifically recruited, they prepare and serve food, clean, provide sex and above all, look the other way or get a beating.
"ok then. it really must have been an inside job then, cause no Muslim would harm anybody. lol
