Fun for the whole mullahocracy
While Bush pushes fantasy-based policymaking, in Iran they're constructing policy-based fantasy. By Farhad Pouladi for AFP (thanks to WriterMom):
TEHRAN (AFP) - Iran on Monday launched a computer game with a strong political message that mixes the standoff over its nuclear programme, the mystery of missing diplomats in Lebanon and its hatred of Israel.Players of the game "Special Operation 85: Hostage Rescue" play the part of a special agent battling to release captured Iranian diplomats and nuclear scientists from the clutches of his US and Israeli foes.
The game has been produced by the Union of the Islamic Students, which was behind the infamous "World Without Zionism" conference in 2005 where President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad called for Israel to be "wiped from the map".
"In this game we are not promoting terrorism and violence. By freeing Iranian hostages we are promoting selflessness, devotion and defence of our country," said the group's secretary general Mohammad Taghi Fakhrian.
The eight-level game starts in Iraq, where a young married couple who are Iranian nuclear scientists have been captured by US forces while making a pilgrimage to the Shiite holy shrine in Karbala.
Enter Iranian special operations officer Bahman Nasseri, whose mission it is to save the couple, named Saeed and Maryam, who have now been spirited away to a prison in Iran's arch-foe Israel.
He slips into Israel and locates their prison.
In a twist, here he finds locked away not only the young scientists but also four other Iranians who in real life have been missing since disappearing in northern Lebanon at the height of the civil war in 1982.
There has never been any official confirmation over the fate of three Iranian diplomats and one photographer. But Tehran believes they were handed over to Israel by Lebanese Christian forces and are still alive.
A successful player completes the eight levels by killing US and Israeli soldiers, stealing their laptops which hold secret information and finally liberating the scientists and the diplomats.
UPDATE: "We tried to promote the idea of defence, sacrifice and martyrdom in this game" -- more information on the game from this Sydney Morning Herald article (thanks to Jay).
Hah! I'll take them on in Counter-Strike any day.
We need to create a counter computer game -- where U.S. agents work to cause a civil war in Iran.
Oh, wait, we're already playing that game, just not on a computer.
Computer game??! Hey, let's show them how it looks for real!
Ah, the moles have done their job well. Now the minds of Iranian youth can atrophy like those of the West.
Nyah-hah-hah!
They should make it a MMORPG. I'm sure some of the WOW crowd would make it a little more challenging for them.
Don't you just love the way they can live in the middle ages and the 21st century at the same time?
JUST THINK OF HOW COOL VIDEO GAMES WILL BE WHEN THE WEST IS CONQUERED BY ISLAM!
Hey, they've aready plagiarized Mickey Mouse, so why not start stealing Western video games too?
Instead of Super Mario Brothers they could have Super Martyrdom Brothers, where they run around collecting bomb materials while trying to avoid the police, trying to blow themselves up in shopping malls and buses.
They could replace "The Legends of Zelda" with "The Legends of the Mahdi", and have him going around taking out all the infidels and establishing a new world Islamic paradise.
They could have a Muslim version of the Sims where women are not allowed to talk in public and have to wear burkas in the summertime, and men get to have tons of wives with no minimum marriage age, just like Mohammed. Whoever hooks up w/ the most wives wins!
Man, Muslim video games rule!
I think a Flintstones theme would work: Fred & Barney at the Lodge planning their next jihad.
Or maybe SpongeBomb Squarepants, a young martyr.
I am sure that allah, the great satan, and his bitch mohammed are delighted with this.
They should have a Mortal Kombat where you could play cool characters like Ayatollah Khomeni or Rage Boy and go against guys like President Bush or Tony Blair or Rush Limbaugh.
I doubt the mullahs will get into it because it will make them feel small not being able to operate the game and defeat the west.
On the other hand it will make recruitment easier. All they have to do is ban video games except for military training. Kids will be lined up at the suicide belt fitting assembly line.
Western intelligence services should copy this game and packaging exactly, with the bonus addition of a GPS to each, and then flood them into Iran through Iraqis black marketeers.
Good for keeping tabs of the fanatics.
Their skills, paid for by US taxpayers, too.
Reminds me of that film where the kid plays a nuclear war game only to find out its connected to real life missile silos.
Fantasy-based...
So, whatever happened to General John Abizaid, CENTCOM from 2003-2007?
http://www.fernleynews.com/1400000/GOV/Abizaid_new_NV_resident.html
He at least deserves credit for not signing on as a lobbyist.
The US "Attack Department" should take this threat seriously. They should engage Iran through Playstation 3 no less, nad defeat them. Hopefully the US Attack Department can do the same to turn things around in Iraq, and this will have a ripple effect throughout the ME, and we can institute democracy electronically.

"Shall we play a game?"
The world has gone mad. I get the feeling that this madness also preceded WWII. It almost seems inevitable. The stupidity of the human race amazes me. A threat, as palatable as the air we breathe, threatens us; but, we refuse to confront it in a realistic manner. I know, that the posters at this site understand. It's unfortunate, but the majority
don't understand, but some are getting there. There lies my dilemma. We face the agony of Sisyphus. Must we all push that rock up an unending slope, only to have come rolling back on us.
Only a jihadist-junkie could come up with something so stupid as a form of entertainment. I'm surprised it isn't designed to blow-up when they reach the eighth level. They just LOVE that sort of thing. Morons.
I forgot the word it.
That smiling mullah appears to be amused, maybe even having fun with his jihadist video game, which he wouldn't be holding in his fat, filthy hand if not for Japanese or Western technology. I do believe the demonic ayatollah Khomeini decreed that there is no fun in islam, so what's up with these guys? Fun and games are forbidden in islam, unless they're all about maiming, torturing, and killing non-muslims. Allah would never deny muslims the pleasure of killing infidels, even if it's make believe. The way muslims bend the rules is so islamic.
DEBKAfile Exclusive: Pakistani forces backed by US special units are closing in on al Qaeda’s No. 2 Ayman Zawahiri and possibly also Osama bin Laden

It is from DEBKA which has a mixed bag of calling things.
Take this for whatever you think that it is worth.
I have an idea - can we have an online version of Risk, where obviously the map shapes and the number and list of countries/empires will be different, and there can be a total of up to 8 players - which would be a combination of 'n' human players and (8-n) computer players. All the computer players will be Jihadis, taking names from different Muslim empires - Arabs, Turks, Afghans, Moghuls, et al, while the human empires can either be preset (Byzantine, Persian, Russian, Greek, Serb, Indian, et al). The human players can go to war with each other if they like, but objective of human players of the game would be to wipe out all the computer players i.e. the Jihadis before they battle each other: to that end, make the computer players a lot more redoubtable than the humans so that there is less of a tendency of the humans to battle each other.
For troop refills, it will be a function of the number of countries a player has, and at the end of each turn, if a Islamic country is conquered, the human player gets one troop, if not, the human player has to answer a pop quiz question on Islam from a deck of cards (think Trivia), which, if answered correctly, earns him 2 troops. Ownership of continents obviously earns more, and wiping out a Jihadi player adds 50 troops to the human conqueror.
Those of you who've ever played Risk would know what I mean.
This is the only way they'll ever win anything against the civilized world...
Hey, at least it's a step up from that pathetic jihadi bee in Gaza.
.....the Iranians are a bunch of selective hypocrites...recently they were running around arresting men for sporting western style haircuts and wearing western style clothes.
In the photo you can see clean shaven young men with western style haircuts and western style clothing...yet they are not being pursued by the religious police...maybe they are the undercover religious police....THe Iranians must be practicising selective arresting meant to intimidate its own people...and to instill a sense of fear and uncertainty....
Someone should send them a virus and the game blows up itself. what ever happened to those squairrels in iran with the surviellience gear?
History may be repeating.
Fast forward.
Iraq nation building occupation ends with American troop withdrawal:
Faced with an ineffective Iraqi government, continuing hatred between Sunnis and Shiites with no end in sight, fatigue and deteriorating morale among the over used and abused American troops, resistance to continue the war on the part of the American people and a rebellion in Congress with a threat to cut off funding, a reluctant President George W. Bush finally agreed to bring American forces home.
The failure of the Iraqi war supporters to admit that President Bush's Iraqi nation building occupation policies had been ill advised and a profound failure would have a huge impact on their psyches and its impact would be manifest in their desire to involve the American nation and it's military in yet another war and nation building occupation that they felt could be won this time thus bringing them vindication.
Many Neocon internet web sites and Neocon radio talk shows would support the false idea that President Bush's Iraqi nation building occupation policies had been going very well and with just a little more time and just a little more surging and just a little more stay the course the Iraqi nation building occupation would have resulted in the building of a successful democratic, rule of law Iraqi nation that would be an ally in the war against terror and serve as a shining example for the rest of the Middle East.
They believed that President Bush's Iraqi nation building occupation policies had been visionary and brilliant and would have soon succeeded, except for being betrayed at home, the infamous 'Stab in the Back' theory.
This 'Stab in the Back' theory would become hugely popular among many Neocon internet web sites and Neocon radio talk show hosts who found it impossible to accept the fact that President Bush's Iraqi nation building occupation policies had been an unmitigated disaster.
During the actually Iraqi nation building occupation fiasco, many Neocons became obsessed with this idea, especially laying blame on what they called "defeatist cut and runners" and "surrender monkeys" in America for undermining the Iraqi nation building occupation effort. To the Neocons, and so many of their followers, the American congress men and women and other Americans who did not support President Bush's Iraqi nation building occupation policies would become known as the 'Defeatist Criminals.'
If the developer's inserted any easter eggs into the game, we can get them hung for apostasy.
Meanwhile, back in America, our forces are learning how to operate the Reaper. However, our system is no game and it will be killing the enemy irl.
The Reaper Comes.
The characters are named Saeed and Maryam? Isn't that David and Mary?
And the hero is Bahman? Where's Mohammad?
Last year muslims were killing ice vendors because Mohammad didn't use it, now this. Muslims really are confused.
Do you think the students who designed this got their training at Al-Ahzar? Or on scholarship at an infidel U?

Turkish poll candidate shot dead
An independent candidate has been shot dead in Istanbul ahead of the 22 July general election in Turkey.
Tuncay Seyranlioglu's car was hit with gunfire on a highway as it was taking him away from a television studio, the Anatolia news agency says.
The 42-year-old businessman owned a construction firm and a newspaper and had been hoping to be elected as an MP for an Istanbul district.
Two Turkish troops have meanwhile been killed in a clash with Kurdish gunmen.
The soldiers were killed by suspected rebels from the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) as they patrolled a rugged area near the south-eastern border with Iraq and Syria.
Turkish troops have been massing along the border with Iraq amid a recent rise in attacks by the PKK.
Turkey accuses Kurdish separatists of staging attacks from inside Iraq.
Deadlock
Three people travelling in Mr Seyranlioglu's car were also hurt, the Associated Press news agency quotes a member of his campaign team as saying.
None of the three is believed to be in a critical condition.
According to the Dogan news agency, several people were detained by police in connection with the attack.
Elections have been called early in Turkey amid a deadlock over a package of constitutional reforms proposed by the current government.
The reforms include a proposal for the president to be elected directly by the people, rather than by parliament.
They were put forward by the governing AK party, whose candidate for the presidency, Abdullah Gul, was repeatedly rejected by parliament. MPs accused him of Islamist leanings.
Turkey's current president and its secularist establishment have vowed to resist what they regard as the Islamist agenda of the AK party.

The Sharia police, or Hisbah, say they will soon commence raids in an enclave in northern Nigeria's ancient Muslim city of Kano - dubbed by locals as "pleasure island".
Abubakar Rabo Abdulkarim says he wants to rid Kano of sin
The Hisbah have given themselves the task of enforcing morals and Islamic law in the city but so far, have largely left Sabon Gari, or New Town, alone, complete with its bars, brothels and night-clubs.
But they say they must stamp out such "sinfulness" in case it "pollutes" the rest of the city.
Sabon Gari has always been a district populated by "settlers" or non-Muslim southern traders and professionals who have settled and worked in Kano.
But after years of ethnic and religious violence, much of Kano's small Christian population withdrew further to Sabon Gari to seek safety in numbers.
This has resulted in a peaceful co-existence between residents of the area and the rest of the city.
Sabon Gari also happens to be one of Kano's biggest ghettos, with blocked sewers, gullied streets and piles of rubbish on almost every street corner.
Cannabis is also openly smoked in this part of the city and pipe-born water is even rarer than in the rest of Kano.
'Open secret'
Kano is among a dozen states in northern Nigeria practising Sharia law, despite initial strong opposition from the federal government, Christians and human rights groups.
More than a dozen Muslims have been sentenced to death by stoning for sexual offences like adultery and homosexuality since the Sharia legal system was introduced in 2000.
Many others have been sentenced to flogging for drinking alcohol.
Two petty thieves have also had their hands amputated - but no death sentences have so far been carried out.
The BBC News website learnt that some Muslims often cross the religious divide - under the cover of darkness - from the Sharia part of Kano to Sabon Gari for dancing, alcohol and sex.
"I often bring many of them here at night to drink," says Mohammed, a taxi driver in the city.
"It's an open secret, my brother. The code is thou shall not be caught," he says with a knowing smile.
Mohammed wouldn't say whether he also makes the nocturnal pilgrimage to the city's pleasure island.
"As long as no-one sees you, you remain a good Muslim and the Hisbah can't come after you."
'Instruments of sin'
Even in the Sharia part of Kano, prostitutes often disguise their trade by covering themselves up in the Islamic veil.
Sabon Gari is one of Kano's biggest ghettos
But now, the Hisbah are saying enough is enough.
"Sharia has been very successful in Kano. So, we cannot allow a tiny spot in the city to ruin our successes so far," Abubakar Rabo Abdulkarim, who is in charge of operations at the Hisbah, told the BBC News website.
He says his men will soon launch a raid on Sabon Gari to cleanse it of all "instruments of sin".
But Mr Abdulkarim also understands the complex cultural nuances of his environment.
Beer smuggling
"Sharia is not a one-day affair. We will get there very soon. Knowing the nature of our environment, we have to be really careful," he says.
He says he has started by reducing the amount of alcohol that goes into Sabon Gari without actually entering the district.
"We mount checkpoints on the main roads leading into the city and impound all lorries attempting to bring alcohol into our city. So, in fact, all the beer you see in Sabon Gari was smuggled in."
But Obinna Amaechi, sitting in a roadside bar with a beer bottle in his hand, is not worried.
"They are not serious. They come here at night and join us at the bar and now they say they want to come and destroy the beer parlours? I think they are joking," he says nonchalantly.
Bar-owner Chidinma Anakwe or "Madam Cash", as her customers call her, further points out that that the Hisbah said non-Muslims would not be affected by Sharia.
"They say Sharia is for the Muslims. As for me, my religion does not stop me from selling or taking alcohol, why should they try to interfere with my business?" she asks.
Madam Cash runs a roadside bar on a main road in Sabon Gari. Despite her passionate defence of her liquor trade, she wouldn't want her picture taken, afraid that her bar might be singled out by "some people" for cleansing.
Massaging the system
Her fear is common among the Christian and animist residents of Sabon Gari.
Having been through many ethnic and religious clashes, in which hundreds of people were killed, they have learnt to massage the system rather than rock the boat.
Kano is an ancient Islamic city
Many of them reacted almost violently when attempts were made to take their pictures or those of their bars.
"As long as they remain this careful, they will keep their businesses and the Hisbah may never come here," Solomon Gapsiso, a Christian who has lived in Kano for more than a decade, said.
"The Hisbah are only joking," one sex worker said with what seemed like a genuine carefree attitude.
"Even for Saudi [Arabia], ashawo dey - there are prostitutes even in Saudi," she said.
Mr Abdulkarim says other societies may tolerate sex workers, but his green-uniformed Hisbah will not allow Kano to become the modern-day Sodom and Gomorrah.
However, there is yet another district where Mr Abdulkarim and his band of Hisbah volunteers will not go, even if they rid Sabon Gari of its "sinful" night life - the army and police barracks.
These also boast small "mammy markets", where alcohol is freely sold and sex-workers operate unhindered.
It is unlikely that Mr Abdulkarim's unarmed patrol teams could venture into these enclaves, suggesting Kano will continue to implement Sharia in patches for a long time to come.

Saudis prepare to behead teenage maid
By Tim Butcher, Middle East Correspondent
Last Updated: 2:58am BST 17/07/2007
The imminent execution of a teenage maid in Saudi Arabia drew fierce criticism yesterday and provoked condemnation of the kingdom's prolific use of capital punishment.
The case has brought fresh attention to the draconian Saudi criminal justice system which is expected this year to set a new record in its use of the death sentence.
Mohammad Rezina, mother of Rizana Nafeek, with two of her daughters at home in Sri Lanka
Human rights campaigners yesterday urged the authorities not to behead a 19-year-old Sri Lankan maid found guilty of killing a baby in her care.
According to the Saudi authorities, Rizana Nafeek admitted strangling the four-month-old boy while feeding him with a bottle.
But Nafeek, whose job was not meant to include child care, has denied making any such admission. She claims the child had begun to choke before losing consciousness in spite of her desperate efforts to clear his airway.
Tonight is the deadline for appeals in the case. Unless the Saudi authorities change the sentence or the parents of the victim offer clemency, Nafeek will have her head cut off by an executioner wielding a sword in front of a crowd of onlookers.
In 2005 there were 191 executions but that record could be surpassed this year as 102 have already taken place just over half way through the year. Last year the total dipped to 38 but this year's figure already includes three women, according to Amnesty International.
Nafeek, who had been, denied a lawyer at her trial, is one of 5.6 million foreign workers who live in Saudi Arabia. The vast majority are domestic workers such as Nafeek, employed to look after the homes of oil-rich families.
