A Muslim who tried to smuggle blueprints for home-made rockets into Britain smiled as he was jailed for three-andahalf years yesterday.Yassin Nassari was stopped by police with his wife and five-month-old son at Luton airport after an easyJet flight from Amsterdam.
The 28-year-old from Ealing had a laptop containing bomb recipes while his wife Bouchra El-Hor had a letter offering their baby as a "martyr".
Nassari, head of the Islamic Society at the University of Westminster, was convicted last week of possessing a document likely to be useful to terrorists.
Judge Gerald Gordon said at the Old Bailey that he accepted Nassari did not plan to make use of the extremist material.
But he added: "I have come to the conclusion that sadly, like a number of other young Muslims, you have somehow been indoctrinated into beliefs which support the use of terrorism by others."

Hi all, this is my first post here and may be a bit lengthy - please bear with me...
I was musing last night about the whole imposition of sharia law/Muslim "extremism" thing. It struck me that there's a similarity here with our own history - in the sixteenth/seventeenth century there was a strong push among left-wing (Puritan) Protestants to impose "Godly Rule". The idea was that the Elect had the right and duty to gain political power and impose and enforce God's laws on everybody else. As far as I know it was only seriously tried in Calvin's Geneva, flirted with in Interregnum England and had a few pockets in the American colonies. The more extreme Puritans were a pretty bloodthirsty lot and were quite willing to use capital punishment/mutilation etc to enforce their take on Biblical truth. The parallel with the imposition of Sharia is pretty strong.
The ideology died out partly because the Enlightenment trust in reason and science started to undercut the old religious certainties. The question is why educated Muslims don't seem to experience the same thing. Eg that looney-tunes Islamic idea that a woman can conceive long after intercourse took place - remember that awful case in Nigeria? Surely the scientific fact should blow that one away - yet it doesn't! Despite a bigger knowledge base, Muslims seem happy to indulge in a sort of Orwellian double-think which allows them to continue to believe what they've been taught despite its obvious idiocy.
I think one problem is that Western leaders, judges etc can't quite come to terms with this fact. They think "here are intelligent, educated people - they can't *really* believe that stuff". In a way, there is a cultural arrogance at work here - the arrogance which sees Western assumptions about things like the sanctity of human life as basic to everyone. Well, they're not. Some people really don't think like us. Some people really *would* see it as a good and desirable thing that their baby be blown to bits. Until our leaders can bring themselves to understand that theirs is not the only way to perceive the world, and that at some point we have to make a value judgment and say "actually my way damned well IS better than yours", we have a Very Big Problem.

Don't pay much attention to the fallacious thinking of the Islamist, however. Islam defies science and logic as a general rule, hence the blow yourself to bits, killing infidels, instant martyrdom, getting 72 virgins in paradise sort of nonsense.

That's the thing I don't get - my own cultural conditioning I guess. How can an intelligent person actually believe the blow yourself to bits/72 virgins thing when it flies in the face of reason? And many of these folks are intelligent, let's face it. They'd be far less dangerous if they were dumb. This is a worldview I just don't *get*. (And what's in it for women btw? Do they get 72 virgins too?) I don't much want to get it either. And the horrible thing is that our own democratic, individual-valuing culture desperately wants to find some sort of modus vivendi with Islam. There may even be some sufficiently Westernised Muslims who want that too, but the more they want it the less true to their own culture they are being and hence the less likely they are to get their way. Catch-22.

His advice, if I recall correctly when dealing with the spectre of Islam is, "You have to be super-sane or go insane". There is no middle ground.

Do the babies continue to mature in Paradise or are they always babies? It doesn't seem fair if they are rewarded 72 virgins but they can't take full advantage of them.

These things are relative and a member of the right wing BNP collected a two and a half year jail sentence for assaulting an Iraqi asylum seeker - you'll find the details on their website somewhere. Interestingly they claim there were no witnesses apart from the Iraqi who did not speak English and no medical evidence of injury was presented to the court. An anti-fascist website in the UK gloated that he spent his entire sentence “skulking in his cell”. This was because they thoughtfully put him in a prison with a lot of Muslims who kept trying to beat him up so he had to ask to be locked up for 23 hours a day for his own safety. Because of our liberal immigration policy our prisons are bursting at the seams with foreign criminals of all religious denominations so they have had to let out several thousand dangerous people early just to make space. You will probably be pleased to know that although the BNP man was a businessman with no previous convictions and recognised as no threat to anybody they refused to include him in the early release programme.
As I said this sort of thing doesn't just apply to Muslims.
BTW I probably feel strongly about the BNP case because 30 years ago I was beaten up by a group of fun-loving guys. I know Southall quite well(my ex wife was born there) and as anyone else who does will tell you it's a large Sikh area.It's a nice place really,good neighbourhood generally speaking..a far cry from muslim dominated Acton next door.
Most of the names of the candidates are Sikh with a couple of hindus.
Their on our side..no need to worry.

I used to live in Hanwell, which is next door to Southall. I noticed several Singhs among the list of candidates, too, although I was surprised to see one standing for Respect, which I assumed leaned more towards Muslims. There must be some Singhs who are Muslim.
However, due to its diverse population, Ealing - and Southall in particular - is an easy place for jihadists to live, meet and plot undetected. But I guess the same is true for most of London.

compare that to any of the east-end islamic ghettoes and you can see the "atmospherics" of islam first hand,the difference is astounding.
It was really this that started me searching many years before 9/11 etc..why was it so different?..I wondered..
I'd had up till then very positive experiences as a white aborigne in southall and later leicester..
Compare that to my experiences in an islamic enclave in Derby and walking my black dog everywhere and you can perhaps see why I started my quest for knowledge.
