BASILAN, Philippines - Islamic militants killed 14 Philippine marines searching for a kidnapped Italian priest during a major gunbattle, and later beheaded 10 of them, the military said on Wednesday.
The troops were ambushed on the southern island of Basilan by a joint force from the Philippines’ main Islamic rebel group, the Moro Islamic Liberation Front and the Al-Qaeda-linked Abu Sayyaf, a marine spokesman said.
Lieutenant Colonel Ariel Caculitan said 14 marines were killed in the eight-hour clash, increasing an earlier death toll after more bodies were recovered. Ten had been discovered beheaded, he said in Manila.
“All 10 marines earlier reported missing have been found dead,” Caculitan told reporters, without explaining a discrepancy in earlier numbers.
“All were beheaded,” he added.

He said earlier six were still missing after the gunbattle with about 200 militants near Tipo-Tipo town on Tuesday.
Some of the beheaded marines had been found by provincial authorities in Basilan and been turned over to the military, other marines said.
Another nine were injured in the clash.
Intelligence reports said Italian priest Giancarlo Bossi, 57, was being kept in an area where MILF forces were known to operate and the troops had been sent in to investigate, said regional marine commander Ramiro Alivio.
About 80 marines clashed heavily with 300 MILF militants backed by Abu Sayyaf fighters, after arriving there early Tuesday, said Colonel Alivio.

This is the point that Robert is making over and over again. The "moderate" Muslims don't have a leg to stand on with the Jihadists because the Qur'an is allegedly dictation from God.
Further, the Qur'an's later chronological verses-direct orders (though it set-up longest to shortest verses) mandate violence against Unbelievers. Many Muslims try to hustle Unbelievers by quoting earlier "peaceful" verses in the Qur'an but they know such "peaceful verses" have been abrogated by later passages that mandate violence and the submission of Unbelievers. The last (chronological) order in the Qu'ran is bad news for Unbelievers.
Everybody has to face reality here or there will be no progress in resolving this conflict. A cat's a cat and that's that.
A good example of chronological abrogation is re wine. Earlier in the Qur'an it is said wine is good but a later verse bans it. In a similar manner, the early "peaceful" verses are abrogated by later verses that mandate violence and the subjugation of Unbelievers.
In my opinion the whole thing is a rationalization for Imperialism. (Such rationalizations are history everywhere). Islam is the engine of Arab (and later Ottoman Empire) Imperialism. But Islam is primarily the engine of bow-to-Mecca-Arab-Imperialism.

As long as non-believers keep up the chirade that abrogated verses in the Qur'an (no compulsion in religion, e.g.) and allow the hustle that Islam is "a religion of peace" to continue, we will all (Muslim and non-Muslim) live in a world of make believe re Jihad. The later chronological verses (and particularly the last verse) mandates violence against Unbelievers. This is reality. Islam is not a religion of peace for Unbelievers or for Muslims following orders.

The truth is that what is in the Koran is really from the Devil or Satan. Cannot be compared to the Old Testement or Hebrew scriptures because unlike the book of Joshua, which the actions were for that one time, what comes from the Koran is for all times against nonbelievers. This is why those verses are called "satanic verses".

It does not suprise me, the belief system treats women badly.
