SHAH ALAM, Malaysia—A Muslim-born woman who was forced to spend six months in an Islamic rehabilitation center because she wants to live as a Hindu said Friday after her release that she will never return to her original faith.Revathi Masoosai, 29, said officials at the center tried to make her pray as a Muslim, wear a head scarf and eat beef, a practice sacrilege to Hindus.
"Because of their behavior, I loathe Islam even more now," she told reporters. "They say it's a school, but it's actually a prison."
Her case is one of a growing number of conflicts in Malaysia between religious freedom and state policies that favor Islam, the official faith of this southeast Asian nation. The battles have strained ethnic relations in the multicultural nation.

Now this article about this woman's decision makes more sense than that woman who was a Christian who wants to be both a muslim and a christian.
We have another example of a country succombing to islam though. I fear that this brave soul is not going to live a long life. None of her men, her government, is willing to take on islam and do what they need to do to ensure the safety of their citizens that do not want to be muslims.
In the original story, it was reported that her baby was removed from her and handed over to her mother, who's still a practicing Muslim. Is that still the case? Is she and her Hindu husband out of luck when it comes to them re-taking custody of their child?
It's high time Malaysia got the same treatment worldwide that South Africa got in the 80's for Apartheid.

Sir - There are certainly very serious questions to be asked about the manning, mission and effectiveness of the Border and Immigration Agency of the Home Office, previously the Immigration and Nationality Directorate (Letters, July 5). It says its role is "securing our borders, enforcing our immigration laws and managing migration to the benefit of the UK". Its catastrophic failure to perform these functions correctly is plain for all to see.
When I said to a previous Home Secretary that the controls at our ports of entry were "beacons of political correctness", he replied that I had made a demeaning remark. I therefore asked the Home Office what proportion of its staff in the various immigration, identity and passport services were from ethnic minorities.
Given that ethnic minorities are estimated to form about 6.7 per cent of our total population of working age, I was alarmed to receive the reply that, of those staff whose ethnicity was recorded, 29 per cent of the Immigration and Nationality Directorate, 30 per cent of the Immigration Service and 14 per cent of the Identity and Passport Service were from ethnic minorities.
While it is only right and proper that all law-abiding bona fide citizens, regardless of ethnicity, should have equal opportunities, the manning of our front-line immigration services is curiously disproportionate. It does not promote confidence in the agencies responsible for the control of our borders and therefore the security and integrity of our nation.

I find it amazing that in just a generation, Sweden, a nation at peace with itself, has incidence of rapes higher then New York.

Good point. At Gitmo, they get their regular halal certified meals, and generally, it tends to be better food than what the guards out there eat. In the meantime, in Malaysia, this innocent woman, who did nothing other than defy her parents conversion to Islam (her grandparents were still Hindu) by marrying a Hindu, is forced to eat beef. All this should be kept in mind when Muslims are being incarcerated in Infidel countries - even if they don't have to eat pork, strict rule - no halal food for them. Just what everyone else gets - nothing more, nothing less.

How about the fact that your team kept this woman in solitary confinement for six months and tried to force her to pray and wear a head scarf in the Muslim fashion? Any problems with that because it flies in the face of your "there's no compulsion in religion" garbage.
She made fools of every one of you. She said no, and you couldn't make her change, and she's representative of all the people who want to be free and are willing to defy you to do so.

Actually Senor Doeboy, I have it on good authority that many prisons in the U.S. serve two baloney sandwiches for lunch, day in and day out. At least that is what Paris Hilton tells us, and my son who had a little brush with the law when he was younger. It straightened him right up.
Isabellathecrusader...the usual thing in lock up is that the trustee's who deliver the food steal all the baloney. What the convict may get is some bread with mustard on it.
This woman has gut's and fortitude. Forcing her to eat meat? For any vegetarian thats bad news, but for certain Hindu's, its forcing them to eat murder.
This is not the way to win friends and influence Hindus. The only thing good about it is that she saw the light and got out.

A good % of Hindus are non-Vegetarians. Regardless of whether they are vegetarians or non-vegetarians, beef is a definite no-no - akin to offering Jews or Muslims pork. Of course, Revathy could have been a vegetarian, but even if she wasn't, beef was off limits.
Sad thing is it's going to be an uphill task for her to regain her 18 month old daughter, and if she and her hubby have any more babies, those kids will risk being snatched from their Hindu parents and handed over to the Muslim grandparent. And her only misfortune was that her parents were stupid/evil enough to convert to Islam, leaving her to face the repercussions of following in her grandma's footsteps.
I just wonder - how many other Hindus, Christians and Buddhists are there in a predicament similar to hers and Lina Joy's, which goes un-reported?

Pork recipe with pineapple and barbecue sauce, along with green pepper and seasonings.
INGREDIENTS:
1 1/2 pounds boneless pork shoulder, cut in 1/2-inch cubes
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
1 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon pepper
1 can (8 ounces) pineapple chunks in syrup
1/2 cup prepared barbecue sauce
1 tablespoon cornstarch
1 medium green bell pepper, cut in strips, or half green and half red bell pepper
PREPARATION:
Heat oil in a large skillet over medium heat; brown pork in the hot oil. Season with the salt and pepper. Drain pineapple chunks; reserve syrup. Add water to the syrup to make 3/4 cup. Add syrup and barbecue sauce to browned pork cubes.
Cover and simmer for 40 minutes, or until pork is tender. Blend cornstarch with 2 tablespoons cold water; stir into pork mixture. Cook, stirring, until thickened. Add pineapple chunks and bell pepper; heat through. Serve with rice.
Serves 6.
