Muslim Episcopalian priest suspended for a year by Episcopalian bishop

"No one who denies the Son has the Father. He who confesses the Son has the Father also" -- I John 2:23

"It is not befitting to (the majesty of) Allah that He should beget a son" -- Qur'an 19:35

How this woman could say that "since entering Islam" she has been a "better Christian" is beyond understanding. Those two statements above cannot both be true. Either she is not taking seriously one or both of the texts that each religion holds sacred, or she is severely self-deluded, or both.

Islamochristian Ann Holmes Redding Update: "Episcopal priest or Muslim? Redding will have a year to think about it," by Janet I. Tu for the Seattle Times (thanks to all who sent this in):

The Rev. Ann Holmes Redding, a local Episcopal priest who announced she is both Muslim and Christian, will not be able to serve as a priest for a year, according to her bishop.

During that year, Redding is expected to "reflect on the doctrines of the Christian faith, her vocation as a priest, and what I see as the conflicts inherent in professing both Christianity and Islam," the Rt. Rev. Geralyn Wolf, bishop of the Diocese of Rhode Island, wrote in an e-mail to Episcopal Church leaders....

During the next year, Redding "is not to exercise any of the responsibilities and privileges of an Episcopal priest or deacon," Wolf wrote in her e-mail. Wolf could not be reached for immediate comment....

Redding's bishop in Seattle, the Rt. Rev. Vincent Warner of the Diocese of Olympia, who accepts Redding as an Episcopal priest and a Muslim, said Wolf's decision is a good compromise.

"It's a good way to have a timeout and provide an opportunity for Ann to continue to teach ... and at the same time take a look at her relationship both with the Episcopal Church and the Christian faith and Islam," Warner said.

Redding is scheduled to start teaching part time as a visiting assistant professor at Jesuit-run Seattle University this fall. But she will not be able to teach, preach or work at any Episcopal church or institution during the next year, she said.

Redding, who until March was director of faith formation at Seattle's St. Mark's Episcopal Cathedral, has been a priest for 23 years.

In June, she announced publicly that, for the past 15 months, she's also been a Muslim — drawn to the faith after an introduction to Muslim prayers left her profoundly moved....

She believes she has not violated any of her baptismal or ordination vows. And "since entering Islam," she said, "I have been, by my own estimation, a better teacher, a better preacher and a better Christian."

Uh huh.

She is as the Bible says "a wolf in sheep's clothing".

Thank goodness someone in that church remembers what it means to be a Christian.

interestingcunundrum-

"a wolf in sheep's clothing"?

I think she's a sheep in a vat of treacle.

All gooey and slaphappy and bleating and moronic.

How she ever got though the schooling is chilling.

Don't they teach that Jesus is not Isa?

This woman might call herself a "Muslim for Jesus."

Muslims will reply that their religion honors Issa.

What this woman needs to understand is that Muhammad was the anti-Christ. The continued determination of Muhammad's worshippers to idolize that fiend and equate him with Jesus is the greatest blasphemy ever.

As someone once said:

If Muslims could feel shame, they would rather hide themselves in the crevices of the earth than show their faces to the world. Only a fool would think this pervert was a prophet. Alas when the rational faculty is destroyed the sense of shame disapears along with everything else.

Redding, must be drinking the same Kool-aid that Karen Armstrong does.

Flavor of the day: Disillusion

What is wrong with the Jesuit-run Seattle University that they would allow her to teach?

She is deluding herself if she is a true Christian and/or she has not a clue as to the life and religion of the big Mo. I hope that someone gives her some reading to do. And get her away from whatever influenced her to follow a prophet that was a murdering thug, to name one of his despicable deeds.

I think my brain just went crossed just thinking how could this be possible. I guess I haven't mixed my brains up properly today in order to understand her reasoning.

If Muslims could feel shame, they would rather hide themselves in the crevices of the earth than show their faces to the world. Only a fool would think this pervert was a prophet. Alas when the rational faculty is destroyed the sense of shame disapears (sic) along with everything else.

When Bertrand Russell announced that he could no longer believe in Christianity, someone asked him if that meant he had converted to islam. Russell responded that he had changed his mind, not lost it.
To me, "mind" means the higher reasoning powers. In regard to converts to islam, they have indeed lost their minds. In regard to those born and raised in the cult, with its intensive brain-washing from infancy onward, the mind apparently never forms. They remain small children, morally and intellectually.
It would be interesting to do MRI scans of moslem brains and compare them to the scans of non-moslems. Are the same areas of the brain active when one is shown various images, or presented with various ideas?

Thank goodness for the Rt. Rev. Geralyn Wolf. Bravo !

ebonystone, I would think that they are very capable of learning - if taught properly. Many are brainwashed from early childhood.

With the huge numbers of psychopathic murderers though - I would be interested to see if there is a huge number of them with the same types of brain scans as our serial killers.

I have written many times that islam breeds these murdering thugs, and we try to weed them out. So, I am wondering if there aren't more with the unusual brain scans of people that resemble our serial killer's brain scans. I do believe that there is a significant different difference in the frontal lobes.

More courage and wisdom than I expected from the bishop. At the moment, I'm rather baffled why she will be teaching. In her obviously confused state, what theological points could she share with her students? Perhaps her own confusion and uncertainity?

This is in Seattle. 2nd only to San Francisco in moonbats.

Here (and I live just outside seattle) its all about how you 'feel'. My guess is that being part of both makes her feel better then being part of one and on opposition to the other.

The fact that Islam and Christianity are, in fact, direct opposites doesn't even register.

I think it is Timothy that says, 'people will impress with their own wisdom, they will have religions but will remove God from the religion'.

I do believe this woman does not have any idea who God or Jesus Christ is.

But I also believe that alot of the problem lies with the Episcopalian religion.

Remember that it is the Episcopalians that have been traveling to the Palestinian refugee camps to praise and endorse Hamas and Hezbollah, and to condemn Israel.

It is also the Episcopalians that right now across the U.S. are having joint church services Christian/muslim.

Episcopalians should not be confused with being Christian. They are a religion, but that is it, and there are alot of those.

Almost all Episcopalians are bleeding heart liberals and are the people protesting about Israel, the war on terror, against our troops, pro-communist, etc, etc, everything most American loving conservatives hate.

If you are Episcopalian and do not believe this way then find a new religion, because you are a tiny minority within your religion.

Just a very silly person who knows how to lie to themselves in an unsuspecting way.

...I vote lying Muslim....

What stinks? I think I pinpointed it. She's supremely narcissistic. She craves attention and applause and turns herself into a two-headed Islamo-Christian freak to get it.

MP: "At the moment, I'm rather baffled why she will be teaching. In her obviously confused state, what theological points could she share with her students?"

1. Hope. That human nature is fundamentally good.

2. Tolerance. Including tolerance of evil when lesson #1 turns out to be false.

3. Dependence. Upon the nasty realists that she and her students will be forced to rely on when the s**t hits the fan and reality overrides lessons 1 and 2.

Does ebonystone or anyone else have any more information on Bertrand Russell’s views on Islam?

A major problem is that critics of Islam tend to be written-off a right-wing, Christian nut-cases.

Actually, it is not who speaks but what they say that matters.

But criticism on Islam from an agnostic like Russell would prove both interesting and useful.

She says "I have been, by my own estimation , a better teacher, a better preacher and a better Christian."

But that's just it: when you lean too far left, and certainly when you embrace Islam, you throw your critical faculties -- your power of discrimination -- right out the window. At that point, you can no longer TRUST your "own estimation".

Don't they teach logic any more in seminary schools? At some point I would think she'd realize: If A claims to be true; and if B claims to be true; and if A is internally consistent; and if B is not internally consistent; and noting that A and B are in opposition; then, therefore, B must be false.

..RESISTANCE IS FUTILE>>YOU WILL BE ASSIMILATED..

"She believes she has not violated any of her baptismal or ordination vows. And "since entering Islam," she said, "I have been, by my own estimation, a better teacher, a better preacher and a better Christian."

Like a teen smoking pot and drinking is a better driver in more control of the car.

Hallelujah!

Brief notes:

1) Bertrand Russell was an atheist, not an agnostic.
2) Antony Flew (another atheist) comments on Russell's dislike of Islam. Flew has been one of the most out-spoken critics of Islam (and, no it's not "Islamism" Flew criticizes but Islam). see
http://www.lrainc.com/swtaboo/taboos/af_ti.html
3) About brain scans and psychopathy...some research flashes pictures or words (intermingled with the pictures/words are what are thought to be "high emotive" words/pictures...psychopaths don't react to the highly emotive words (such as "torture" or "murder" etc., these words would elicit the same emotional response as "lamp.") The problem areas of the brain may not be in the frontal lobes (that's the "executive" or decision centers of the brain) it may be deeper -- in the "emotional" centers of the brain -- hippocampus).

"Hallelujah!"
Posted above.

Objections to "Hallelujah!":
1) She is still able to teach at a Jesuit institution
2) Her suspension ("timeout") is only for a year and is for her "reflection" and to "take a look at her relationship both with the Episcopal Church and the Christian faith and Islam". And it is ONLY a suspension. No suggestion of being defrocked, offered the gospel, and later consider her for re-training to discover where her understanding went so astray.
3) Her "bishop" is still in the Episcopal church employment. He is WORSE than Redding because he should know even better.

"Teachers" must be held to higher standards. By claiming to be not only a votarie, but a MINISTER of a conventional faith, the MINISTER is held to teach the canon and catechisms traditionally taught as non-negotiable. For example, Christ as divine propitiation and atonement is CENTRAL to the faith of Christianity. Weakness on this led to defining the heresy of Pelagianism, for example, and such adherents either broke from the church (schism) or were forced out as heretics. They did not get to continue as MINISTERS. Admitting to simultaneously adhere (or accepting the feasibility of such) to another faith that claims Christ was "just a man", is such a rank rejection of the central, most crucial part of Christian doctrine that all Christians should reject such an individual, and not even eat (1 Corinthians 5:11) with them, much less accept them as a MINISTER.

These are self-deluded egomaniacal individuals who are effecting violence upon two millenia of Christian doctrine and fourteen centuries of Islamic jurisprudence, neutering both for the thrill of being today's media-whores. More disgusting is the molly-coddling by their overseers who think their preening acceptance or overly cautious circumspection will be seen as politically correct moral courage instead of the cowardice in confronting heresy that it really is.

Would also add, that if a person has frontal lobe problems -- many times this manifests as an impulse control disorder. The person can't control himself...may act out. But afterwards, the person will express horror, grief, be upset, emotionally distraught, express regret...none of that happens with a diagnosed psychopath. The psychopath typically cannot/does not express regret or empathy for his/her victims.

"'I understand that one of my options would be to voluntarily leave the priesthood,' Redding said."

"At this moment, though, she is not willing to do that. 'The church is going to have to divorce me if it comes to that,' she said. 'I'm not going to go willingly.'"

"Redding says she understands that 'the last thing the church needs to deal with at this time is this type of doctrinal dispute. I wish it could've been at a more convenient time.'"

There are six things that the LORD hates, seven that are an abomination to him:
1) haughty eyes,
2) a lying tongue, and
3) hands that shed innocent blood*,
4) a heart that devises wicked plans,
5) feet that make haste to run to evil,
6) false witness who breathes out lies, and
7) one who sows discord among brothers.
Proverbs 6:16-19

A PERFECT SEVEN!!!!!!!! (*really where does she think that zakhat goes?)

Can she get a bonus point for feigned false regret?

Please, can some Canadian reader here send Bp Wolf a copy of Dr Mark Durie's book "Revelation? Do Muslims and Christians Worship the Same God?" - plus a link to Bishop Patrick Sookhdeo's "Barnabas Fund" website. Durie is a fellow Anglican, which might help. Also Robert's "The Truth About Muhammad", and the book on Islam and Christianity that Robert has just published. A brief letter of strong encouragement and solemn warning should be included.

Send extra copies for Bp Wolf to give to his deluded/ demonically deceived - or traitorous? - subordinate.

Shoutout to isabella the crusader - let's put Bishop Wolf and [un]rev. Ann on our prayer list.

Hi Dumbledore! I'm on it. ; )

This reminds me of the Scientologists. They always talk about Catholic Scientologists and Jewish Scientologists. The only reason you can be both is because Scientology isn't a religion.

This woman? She's a liar. She shouldn't be allowed to be an Episcopalian, much less an Episcopalian priest.

Redding is scheduled to start teaching part time as a visiting assistant professor at Jesuit-run Seattle University this fall.

_________

As a Catholic I am not surprised that the Jesuit University would welcome her with open arms. It's really sad, I'm sure Ignatius of Loyola is banging his head against St. Peter's Gate right about now.

Uh, Geralyn is a woman. And considering that it took 15 months for even this weak treatment of a "time out", I don't find her particularly praiseworthy. (And the North American Jesuits were taken over by the Left a long time ago.)

Once again, a female priest is a theological impossibility.

"Shut up you Stupid Woman
The Snake said with a grin.
You knew was a Snake
The day you took me in."

maybe this woman suffers from a split personality.

She needs to suffer from a split from the Episcopal Church).

Once again, a female priest is a theological impossibility.

Absolutely correct, and that doesn't oppress me in the least. Not my will, but Thine be done.

Person #1: "It's a floor wax"

Person #2: "No, it's a dessert topping"

Ann Holmes Redding: "It's a floor wax AND a dessert topping!"

What a self absorbed idiot. Some people will do anything for attention.

In my church, assuming she were a male and in the priesthood and acknowledged such [no word strong enough] drivel, she would immediately be removed from the priesthood.

Then she would be given a short time to reflect on the inconsistencies between the Christian faith and Islam. She would then be expected to specifically and publically reject and denounce:

1) the Muslim faith and its sophistries
2) that Mohammed was a prophet
3) the Koran (affirming that its legends, laws, and traditions are false)
4) that pilgrimage to Mecca for worship is beneficial and salutary for the soul
5) polygamy in this life and sensual pleasures in Heaven
6) Mohammed's blasphemies concerning Christ, His mother, and Christians.

She would also be required to affirm publically all the specific beliefs of the Christian faith. (I'm not going to write all of them out.) Quite possibly she would not be readmitted to full communion until her deathbed, although if she were heartily and profoundly sorry for her mistake, she probably would be readmitted sooner.

If she failed to do this, she would no longer be considered a Christian by my church, but as merely a visitor, an interested party, or a curious onlooker until such day she publically makes the above declarations.

And in my opinion, that's how the Episcopal Church ought to handle it.
