ISTANBUL, July 3 (Compass Direct News) – In a bizarre twist in the criminal prosecution of two Turkish Christians for “insulting Turkish identity,” an administrative district authority in Istanbul has ordered the converts from Islam fined for “illegal collection of funds.”Hakan Tastan and Turan Topal, on trial for insulting Turkishness under the nation’s notorious Article 301, were summoned to Istanbul’s Beyoglu police headquarters on Sunday morning (July 1) just before church services began at the Taksim Protestant Church, where Tastan is a member.
“Three plainclothes policemen were waiting for me at the church,” Tastan said, “saying I was wanted at the police station.”
With their lawyer out of town, he telephoned Topal, and the two agreed to go along to the police station.
“I thought probably the police were acting on last week’s Interior Ministry decree,” Tastan told Compass, referring to a June 28 directive sent to all the nation’s governors ordering extra security for Turkey’s religious minorities in the wake of rising violence against non-Muslims. “But it turned out to be something entirely different.”
The two Christians were both presented with a separate “penalty” sheet from the security police division linked to the Beyoglu district, ordering each one to pay 600 Turkish lira (US$461) for breaking a civil law.
According to the one-page decisions, the two men were guilty of violating section 29 of civil administrative code 2860, which forbids the collection of money without official permission from local district authorities.

What a great model of secular Islam to hold up to the world, I can't wait for them to get into the EU.
As one who has lived in Turkey I can say that this is nothing new. Christians there are under attack and persecution all the time. If the Islamists are taking the day off the government steps in and keeps the pressure on the Christians. The media routinely prints lies about the Christian community after conducting "undercover" investigations among the Christian community. Their favorite lie is that Christians give money to Muslims to convert. If a church is allowed to be built the local governements will impose last minute demands to change building plans that have already been approved. They will do things such as a last minute demand that a wall be built down the middle of the church auditorium knowing full well what that does to the congregation's ability to have worship services. It is possible to get permits to pass out Bibles and Christian literature but that does not stop individual policemen from harrassing/arresting those passing out the literature. I personally knew the owner of a Christian radio station. He was under constant death threats and had to move his home and office every few months to abate the threats and police harrassment. This country is little better under Kemalism and should never be admitted to the EU.

I hope the US sees that Turkey is not a true friend and this will prevent them from ever joining the EU. The average Turks is fine but the government is being influenced by the extremist and it is their government I do not trust. Too nationalistic!!!
Events like this is a very good reason why Turkey should not be allowed in the eu.
I do not excuse what the Turks are doing to Muslim apostates, but compared to Muslim apostates in Saudi Arabia, Turks who leave Islam are the lucky ones because they are only harrassed. In Saudi Arabia as all readers of Jihad Watch and Dhimmi Watch know, apostacy is punished by death. Hopefully, the Turkish military can prevent the Jihadists from gaining total power. If the Turkish Muslim extremists ever gain total power, I will not be surprised if the death penalty is eventually imposed on Muslim apostates.
I agree, Turkey should not be allowed in the EU.
And to think that there as serious politicians - in both the US and Europe -who are calling for Turkey to be admitted into the EU.

Very true. Yet, the EU, the USA as well as the well known arch-enemies of Turkey such as Greece and Cyprus are openly supporting the ruling AKP in the coming elections.
Both "Condom Lezzie Mice" and Bakayonni and government spokesman of the numbskull Tassos Papadopoulos have explicitly declared that they would like to see the present "mild islamist" (whatever f... it means) party to hold on their power after upcoming July 22 elections.
Why then all these crooks have become suddenly "islamist lovers"?
Because, economic interests are at stake, because a Turkish bank was recently sold out to Greek Alpha bank, several ports and state economic enterprises have been put on auction sale to foreigners. What we see here is quite akin to the West bowing down to Arabs in return for more oil.
Trade dhimmitude against economic profits.
As for EU candidacy, Turkey will not be admitted to the EU point. Both Angela Merker and Sarko -the -Psycho made it clear and unlike George "W.C" Bush they meant business. Whatever the rest of EU (little ones) is immaterial, the big brothers have spoken..
Europeans pursue the policy of a deceitful policy of give-and-take: Giving empty promises of a utopic EU membership in return for more and more economic concessions. They are striving for an eventual and full control of the economy of the “Sick man of Europe”, thus hope to have a last say on the internal politics so that they can defend (??) the minority (Christians, Alouites, Jews) against potential harassment by majority muslims.
Nothing could be further from the reality.
Take the case of Saudi Arabia. There any non-muslim, let alone having the freedom to practice his/her faith, has no right to exist.
And nobody is doing a damn about it. Nobody can raise a voice against either.
I am afraid, by sinking gradually into İslamist mud thanks to hypocrisy of the EU-USA partnership of allied “dumbs”, Turkey will follow suit.
And “the Sound of Silence” not only for the minority people but also for atheists/agnostics and secular people.
After all, who cares? They are all expendable…
