HOUSTON --A U.S. citizen convicted of receiving training at a terrorist camp alongside al-Qaida members in his efforts to help overthrow the Somali government has been sentenced to 10 years in prison.Daniel Joseph Maldonado, 28, a Muslim convert also known as Daniel Aljughaifi and Abu Mohammed, also was fined $1,000. Maldonado grew up in Pelham, N.H., and later lived in Methuen, Mass.
Maldonado admitted to traveling in December to a terrorist camp in Somalia, where he was trained to use firearms and explosives in an effort to help a group called the Islamic Courts Union topple the government and install an Islamic state. Members of al-Qaida were present at the camp.
Maldonado was captured by the Kenyan military while trying to flee Somalia in January and brought back to the United States in February.
In April he pleaded guilty to a charge of receiving training from a foreign terrorist organization. He was sentenced Friday.
Ten years was the maximum prison sentence Maldonado could have received. He faced a fine of up to $250,000....
But before the sentence was handed down, Newton said that while his client is not making excuses for what he did, he went to Somalia and the Middle East only to practice his Muslim faith in peace and not to join a terrorist group.

Yeah, most people go to brutally lawless war zones to practice their faiths in peace. Remember that Somalia is so violent and chaotic that most humanitarian aid groups have had to pull out.

It is understandable (not acceptable) why a muslim born into Islam buys into the myth. They have a lifetime of accepting brain torturing ideology, as reality. This tortured reality has been with them so long, they think it is normal.
The convert on the other hand, dives headfirst into the pool of Islam without checking first, to see if there is any water in it.
Diving into a empty pool gurantees one big crack up, and that seems to be the way it is with many converts. They dive into the Islam school of hard landings, and immediatly become mentally fragmented, easilly manipulated, and violence prone. All in the name of a god, they do not know, or barely know.
So, do all potential martyrs-jihadists, who are
violent, bring their violence with them into Islam, or is Islam capable of tricking a peaceful person to take on the aura of violence, to murder and suicide, all in the name of a god they they cant possibly know, and is considered non existant by many.
So I suppose the gist of the question is, how does a level headed convert, convert, and maintain his level headedness? It would seem that the act of converting destroys that. Or maybe the convert never was level headed to begin with, and is empty headed on arrival. Empty heads can be filled with anything...clever Islamists are well aware of that...
When I was in college I once took a personality profile-career test. It noted I was perceptive in detecting how peoples' minds work, their motives, etc. One thing I note about Robert is that his mind's operation is very similar to Lincoln. Both have that same relentless love for veracity and fact and both are clever.
One attorney from Springfield (noted decades after Lincoln was gone) that Lincoln's love for veracity-fact coupled with his self taught grasp of the rules of logical thinking (Herndon said he memorized them) made him a formidable attorney. He said that over time he saw Lincoln's mind get to the point where it was almost impossible for him to fall into a fallacy in argument.
The problem with deception is that it really is not in the interest of anyone who will have an efficient mind. It will cause blind spots in the mind that will eventually be destructive to the self. Islam's mandates to deception will create minds that will be crippled to one degree or other. Lincoln once said in the matter of seeking to know objective truth that he did so "because I do not want to lose my best friend-myself". His motive was always what was in his best self-interest.
Islam is not good for the mind or one's best self-interest.
