Wilders presents anti-burqa bill

Anti-dhimmitude from one of the few clear-sighted politicians in Europe. From AP (thanks to Darcy):

THE HAGUE (AP) - A right-wing Dutch lawmaker wants women jailed for wearing the head-to-toe Islamic robe known as a burqa, calling it a ''symbol of oppression.''

Geert Wilders, whose Freedom Party has nine lawmakers in the 150-seat lower house of Dutch parliament, filed a proposed law change Thursday that would make wearing a burqa in public a crime punishable by up to 12 days jail.

''The burqa and niqab are a symbol of oppression of women,'' Wilders told The Associated Press in a telephone interview. He said burqas and the niqab - a full-faced veil with only a slit for the eyes - hindered integration of Muslim women into Dutch society and also were a security risk.

''If you want to wear a burqa, you should do it somewhere other than the Netherlands,'' Wilders added.

A prominent spokesman for the Dutch Islamic community, Ayhan Tonca, called Wilders' proposal ''totally out of proportion'' and accused Wilders of seeking to broaden a rift between Muslims and the rest of Dutch society.

No, he is noting the rift that already exists, and trying to heal it.

A good start but I think his legislation would be strengthened by noting that it is forbidden to wear the burkah in moslem nations such as Turkey.

This is interesting.

''The burqa and niqab are a symbol of oppression of women,''

.......agreed......

Although 70% of the Dutch agreed with the proposal, it was shot down by the majority in parliament the very next day.

The burqa is a jihadi disguise mechanism (SEE: transvestite imam of the Red Mosque).

It needs to be outlawed in all infidel lands as a tool of terrorists.

May Wilders get the Dutch Pime Minister post ASAP.

One of the few in the West who grasps the seriousness of the threat of resurgent Islamic imperialsm.

Burqa clad women are vitamin D deficient.

We need a Geert Wilders and a Freedom Party in the USA.

It is speculation on my part but I bet Wilders really didn't expect the law to pass, he did it to make a statment. He is at least raising awareness to these issues by bringing the debate to the public forum. Those who voted against this bill are now on record, for all the voters to see. When a muslima in burqa hides a suicide bomb under her sack and kills innocents, they can be held accountable.

We need someone with the courage of Wilders deperately in the U.S. I would vote for him/her for president even if the chances of winning were unlikely.

If we could only get Ayeen Hirsi Ali on a fast track towards U.S. citizenship we could start a write-in campaign for her to run for a senate seat.

Burqa clad men are C4 overdosed.

I cannot urge the contributers to this forum enough to read the book "The Swallows of Kabul" by Yasmina Khadra (nom de plume of Mohammed Moulessehoud). I hope this book is translated into Arabic, Farsi and Urdu. It is a vivid portrait of life under the Taliban. It shows the oppressive use of the burqa to dehumanize women. "The Swallow of Kabul" should be required reading in all high schools in America.

Irony. This book was translated from the French. The author lives there instead of his native Algeria.

Finally some progress!

"A right-wing Dutch lawmaker..."
-- from the article above

Why "right-wing"? What makes Geert Wilders "right-wing"? Could it be the very same thing that made that bemused libertine Pim Fortuyn "right-wing" --nothing to do with social policies, nothing to do with economic views, nothing to do with anything at all except his intelligent apprehension of, and therefore apprehension about, Islam? Is that why the writer of the article above, and the
Associated Press that carried the article, thought it could simply affix the Homeric epithet "right-wing," thereby telling readers everywhere, without any need to amplify or explain, that Geert Wilders is "right-wing" and thus deplorable, and his views on the burga and Islam must be seen as the views of a "right-wing" and hence deplorable, practically Fascist or neo-Nazi, troglodyte?

How long will readers accept being told what to think? What if the AP story had read this way:

"Dutch parliamentarian Geert Wilders wants women jailed for wearing the head-to-toe Islamic robe known as a burqa, calling it a 'symbol of oppression.'"?

That would have two virtues.

In the first place, describing Geert Wilders not as "right-wing" but simply as a "Dutch parliamentarian" would be one victory over the campaign of constant bullying by newspapers and wire services of the hapless reader -- bullying him through such means as this unnecesary adjective "right-wing," which influences lazy readers, who will silently take in, and be affected by it, be ready to dismiss, what this "right-wing" figure -- otherwise why whould AP call him that? -- Geert Wilders is advocating.

And in the second place, calling Geert Wilders a "Dutch parliamentarian" rather than calling him "right-wing" is a description that happens to be true.

I have reservations about only punishing the Muslim women who wear burkahs. If they didn't their husband/father/brother/uncle would probably beat and/or kill them.

Maybe the males in their families should be held accountable too.

We need a Geert Wilders and a Freedom Party in the USA.
Leave Iraq Now

We already have a Loyalist Party - what it needs is a high profile and popular candidate who can force both the GOP and Dems to treat the Muslim problem seriously.

On a different note, Wilders is demonstrating that he fully earned the 'Anti-Dhimmi of 2006' award.

You Go, Geert Wilders!

atheling - because the males of the Muslim family would know it's against the law to wear the burqa - why would they hold the females of the family responsible?

Yay anti-dhimmitude!

An option more likely to succeed is:

Ban the Veil (and public mask wearing)

darcy:

Since when do Muslim men obey Western laws? They practice polygamy, FGM, honor killings, etc...

Their contempt for women is so deep that they wouldn't care if their wives/daughters were jailed. They would still demand that they wear the veil. That's why they should be punished too.

The burqa is more than just a symbol of oppression of women. It is also a sign of the imposition of Islamic custom on non-Muslims. When we must allow masked teachers, masked driver's license pictures, and masked lawyers, a thousand years of our cultural evolution will be destroyed.

The veil is a mask, dammit!

I see that Denmark has the same problem we do in the US. Politicians refuse to yield to the will of the people. Wilders is a leader, not a politician, I applaud his effort.

Infidel Pride

Thanks for the tip on the Loyalist Party web site.
I'm duly registered and look forward to participating over there.

Sparrow: quite correct - a ban on all public face masking, except for motorbike helmets while riding. This is a simple matter of public security. After all, if only 'niqabs and burkahs' were banned, they'd simply start wearing some other kind of mask anyway.

Wilders is the kind of politician Europe needs, but based upon interviews I've seen him in, his knowledge of Islam is not really that good. What we really need, is a politician with a similar level of knowledge as say, Robert Spencer, for example.
His current knowledge is about the same as the average Jihadwatch poster, which is just not enough for the task at hand. We need something more..

To Rogster

If he is on par with the average jihadwatch poster in knowledge, he is well equipped to fight this battle. If our politicians in the US knew as much as we do, we wouldnt be in this mess we are in now. Not that I am short changing Robert Spencer, I just believe he has taught us more than you give credit for.

Do you hear the SOUND of that??!! Mooseleembs - and the "rest of Dutch Society"!!

The presumptuousness of these fiendich devils KBNOW NO BOUNDS!!

mooseleembs may live in europe.. unwanted, uninvited as they are.. they are NOT a part of us. NOR will they EVER be!

Everyone but the powers-that-be wants them GONE better yesterday that today!

The 'right wing' smear sticks.

But that Geert Wilders has to live under police protection 24/7 was conveniently omitted.

Journo's who do this are swine, full stop.

Yep and then they go to the hospital and us stupid Westerners pay for their medical treatment.

May a lovesick camel.. Johhny Carson knew what he was talking about.

The other day I was at a shoe warehouse when I spotted a woman with a long dark robe and a niqab with slits. I thought it was interesting that if she was so into Muslim modesty then why were her three young daughters running around in jeans and t-shirts. The hypocrisy was stifling. The full effect of her political statement was not lost on me.

As I've contemplated that incident over the past few days I've thought about how polarizing the Muslim situation is. How would one strike up a conversation with this be-Hefty-bagged member of the human race? I regularly talk with people in line but I guess I wouldn't be able to do that with this woman without bursting into peals of laughter, because the absurdity of it is really amusing.

Having said that, another woman walked in with the head scarf and was followed by her two daughters, one with the head scarf and a younger girl without it. They were quiet and did not draw attention to themselves, but I couldn't help but think that five years ago, or even one year ago, I wasn't seeing this in this part of town, or anywhere for that matter in the metropolitan area I live in. We are being invaded by a mindset that thinks that we don't know what it means to be Muslim, but since I do, I resent the hell out of it, especially since I understand what their insistence on "everything Islam" will wreak in my own life and those I care about.

Maybe the next time I'm down that way I will wear a t-shirt that says:

There was only one Mecca paet of the Koran that was abrogate by than Medine Koran verse was the Meccan Verse that allow some drinking of alchol while in Medine all achol drinking was ban except when alchol was needed to disolve from medical herb or drug which are insolveable in water. Thereis than amendment in the US Constitution of the united state
that abrogate than early amendment pass 14 years early which ban the drinking of alchol nationwide while states on they own can ban it as can cities or countries. Mecca and Medine verses in the Koran are equall valid except for one which than Medine verse abrogate. Isabellathecrusader little girls donot need to wear the modest clothing which woman needed to wear untril they have they first peroid than they are on they honor to report this to they mother. Some girl get away delaying the record up to than year or two. Some girls on their own want to wear what they mother and big sister wear but it isnot requid by the Koran so the mother where following correct Islamist teaching on this. Wilder is than far right wing bigot and raceist.
Isabella it you where to ask the woman she would explain this to you and the fact that she isnot opposess at all it was her free will to wear it.

"Why "right-wing"? What makes Geert Wilders "right-wing"? Could it be the very same thing that made that bemused libertine Pim Fortuyn "right-wing"?

Oh well said, Hugh. We got the same "right wing" prefix when talking about the Lebanese Maronites.

The Infidel/Jihad debate is not a left / right slugfest.

In Medine when drink alcohol was ban the Founder of Islam didnot need than police force ro enforce it the Muslim stop drinking alcohol on they own. One of the founder wifes said it the first words from Allah
to the Arabs was you cannot drink Alcohol the Arabs would have said we willnot give up drinking alcohol and it Allah would have said you cannot committed sex with than other person while marries to your wifes or hushand the Arabs would have said we would have sex with than other person partens no matter what, instead the first words from Allah was about Heaven and hellfire. When the drinking of makeing and selling or buying alcholic drinks where ban in 1920(it was legal to drink alcohol but it is hard to drink alcohol without buying or selling it or makeing it so it was than mute point of law) criminal gangs where form to manufactor beers and other alcoholic drinks or import then from Canada or
Mexico and europe. In fact more people where drinking when it was ban before it was ban.About 500,000 to million people dies during the 14 when it was ban from gang killing each other over alcohol selling right and than between police an federal agents and gangs member than other people
caught in the crossfire or witness againt the criminal gangs. In the end the federal government gave up banning alcololic drinks on than nationwide scale. There is now talk about the federal govenment ending the drug war an lifting the ban on illegality drugs.

Sorry Defender, but the eldest daughter looked to be about 13 or 14 and had breasts so there goes your theory out the window.
