But the context is that these checkpoints are absolutely necessary to protect innocent Israelis against terrorism. Do you not remember the bus bombings, pizzeria attacks, bat mitzvah massacres, etc. etc.? This story is no different from the stories about the Abu Ghraib prison and the so-called abuses the U.S. military is engaged in. The truth is, there is no military more humanitarian and more concerned about collateral damage than the U.S. and Israeli militaries. There are hundreds of examples to counter this one, propagandizing report you refer to here, where Israel has gone out of its way to help Palestinians and other Arabs. For example, think of the woman the Israeli's allowed in from Gaza for treatment at a hopital in Beersheva, and she was caught plotting a suicide bomb attack. I have thought about this Israeli/Jewish/Palestinian/Muslim situation and wonder myself what would any human do if our people were being systematically killed off - in unimaginably horrible ways, to boot - and the world did nothing, as happened to the Jews, and as continues to be called for and threatened.
Would we do anything we could to prevent it from ever happening again? Would we want - and do anything to create - a safe place for our people to live? Would we trust anyone else? What would happen to our national psyche? What would you or I do to protect our own?
