Al Qaeda in N. Africa apologizes for unauthorized bombing

But the jihad's still on, of course. "Al Qaeda Maghreb says member behind Algeria attack," from Reuters:

ALGIERS, Aug 22 (Reuters) - Al Qaeda's north Africa wing said one of its fighters was behind a bomb attack on a former senior Islamist rebel in Algeria but said the assault was carried out without the approval of the group's leadership.
Al Qaeda Organisation in the Islamic Maghreb said it had not planned to target Mustapha Kertali, a founder of the banned Salvation Islamic Front (FIS) and once a leading member of its armed wing, as he was not involved in attacking its fighters.
Kertali was seriously wounded on Aug. 14 when a bomb exploded under his car as he drove away from a mosque in the town of Larbaa, 30 km (18 miles) south of Algiers.
"One of our soldiers targeted Mustapha Kertali without consulting the leadership and getting its approval," the group said in a statement posted on an Islamist Web site.
"The bombing ... which we have not ordered and took place without our knowledge, is a mistake and we assume its repercussions before God and our Muslim nation."
Kertali surrendered to authorities in 2000 under an amnesty. He supported another amnesty for rebels that President Abdelaziz Bouteflika issued last year as part of a wider national reconciliation plan to draw a line under the bloodshed.
"We do not see any reason for targeting this type of people who abandon jihad under the pretext of a truce and reconciliation unless there is evidence of his involvement in the war and the killing of mujahideen," the statement added.
[...]
Experts estimate several hundred guerrillas are still fighting in pockets of territory east of Algiers and in parts of the desert south.
Security experts say most belong to Maghreb al Qaeda, previously known as the Salafist Group for Preaching and Combat (GSPC).
Al Qaeda's north Africa wing said in a statement posted on the Internet last month that it was planning a violent campaign against "infidels" and government forces in the Maghreb region. It urged Muslims to stay away from possible targets.

With the ambiguous Qur'an, coupled with the lack of a unifying authoritative voice in Islam, historically known as the Caliphate, individual interpretation of Islamic texts seems to be the rule of the day amongst the active jihadists.

This is just an obvious logical assumtion.

Allahu ack-whoops!

Please ignore the random bodyparts.

Sincerely, Abu Boo-boo.

"apologized"???
"unauthorized bombing"??????
Ya mean a bombing must be sanctioned first(as if)?
Oh, gee...I feel so MUCH better now.
(/sarc)

I am glad he got bombed either way.. let's get OUT of Iraq NOW and we will see much more of this :-)

No.. it's Al-GAYDAR.. LOL

It really doesn't surprise me that they're more sorry about not following orders than they are about committing terrorism.

It's always reassuring when bloodthirsty, sociopathic, barbaric, murderous, zealots show their "soft" side. "Sorry, ol, chap...didn't mean to incinerate you."

"That last attack wasn't authorized, so it was just a misunderstanding, y'know?"

Ah, the Religion of Peace is really living up to its name.

...Al-Qaeda in Algiers, Al-Qaeda in Pakistan, Al-Qaeda in Iran, Al-Qaeda in Somalia, Al-Qaeda in Nigeria, Al-Qaeda in Iran, Al-Qaeda in Egypt, Al-Qaeda in Syria, Al-Qaeda in Lebanon, Al-Qaeda in Jordan, Al-Qaeda in the Sudan,Al-Qaeda in Yemen......seems difficult to believe those who claim Al-Qaeda was not in Iraq.....

"The bombing ... which we have not ordered and took place without our knowledge, is a mistake and we assume its repercussions before God and our Muslim nation."
-- from the article above

This suggests that Al Qaeda, or the assorted local surrcusales of Al Qaeda, know exactly what is being targeted, and have rules before "God and our Muslim nation" -- that is "Allah and the umma al-islamiyya" -- which are all that are supposed to count, and that for True Believers do count. Allah, and the "umma al-islamiyya," the Community of Believers. That's it.

"We do not see any reason for targeting this type of people who abandon jihad under the pretext of a truce and reconciliation unless there is evidence of his involvement in the war and the killing of mujahideen," the statement added.
-- from the same article, quoting Al Qaeda

This reveals that the target of the attack, in Al Qaeda's view, was not truly a defector or someone who had joined the camp of those who were against Al Qaeda. There was, in this view, "no evidence of his [the target of the attack] involvement in the war and the killing of mujahideen." No, he was not really a defector at all; but the "tupe of people who abandon jihad under the pretext of a truce and reconciliation.

"Under the pretext of truce and reconsiliation." Who better to describe what with so many of these so-called "reformed Jihadists" in Algeria, or for that matter anywhere else on the globe, may really be going on.

How many of those released from Guantanamo, fooling their supposedly hard-headed hard-bitten American army guards and authorities, went right back to violent Jihad? How many went back to other forms of Jihad? How many, indeed, once released, do you think have abandoned Jihad at all, and become upstanding members of the Peaceable Kingdom? I don't think you will need to use the fingers on more than one hand.

""Under the pretext of truce and reconsiliation." Who better to describe what with so many of these so-called "reformed Jihadists" in Algeria, or for that matter anywhere else on the globe, may really be going on. "

.....ok, all you western leaders and leader wannabees....pay attention.....look at Al-Qaeda with your eyes wide open and put your brain into gear....especially when you listen and talk to Muslims and Muslim appeasists and sympathizers....especially when you are voting on foreign aid packages to Muslim countries....especially when you interview and have discussions with those preaching to you "Islam is a peaceful religion"....and keep your portable metal detecting wands close at hand....

....and by the way....how about giving some praise to your citizens who care enough about the future of their children by reporting suspicious characters and suspicious activities....believe it or not, there are those out there who desire to destroy it all....and believe it or not....it is almost an entirely Muslim thing....

Ban Muslim Immigration

They did it without permission?????

Must had been the B team.

These guys must have flunked a few classes at Ka-Boom University.

All of this is in the koran - the one group can have a truce if they are trying to regroup/rearm to fight the infidels another day. (but not more than 10years of a truce which can be broken at any time by muslims) So, yes, this makes sense why the other group apologized - they were not aware that the muslims made the truce under mohammed's directions on this sort of thing.

I had to read this a few times because it floored me that muslims apologized for anything.

Now, what the people who made the truce with the muslims need to know from someone is that truce is a very shakey truce and it is not only temporary, but lethal.

Hugh-

Even Michael " Through Our Enemies' Eyes" Scheuer is for "shoot 'em when you catch 'em". (As he declared recently during an interview on the radio.)

I've been emailing

president@whitehouse.gov

since 2002 explaining that the legitimate rules of war, when you catch "unlawful enemy combatants"- who are not in any recognized uniform and behaving in opposition to all known regulations of civilized combat- is:

-field military tribunals for such "spies, saboteurs and terrorists" and then an immediate firing squad.

Except for high value prisoners like K.S. Mohammad who need to be squeezed for intelligence before shooting.

Otherwise you end up with the ongoing propaganda war losses which we have seen around Gitmo, ad nauseam.

The enemy plays our supine media and the anti-Western segment of our populace like a cheap violin.

The melody: "Blues For Allah".

'beard:
why do ya think the "geneva convention!" screed suddenly stopped? lol
It would have blown up in their faces.

"apologized"???
"unauthorized bombing"??????

jcom972--That was my thought, exactly, upon reading this. The proffered apology is worse than the so-called crime! I guess we're through the proverbial looking glass, for sure.

I had to read this a few times because it floored me that muslims apologized for anything.

R_not, it's called "plausible denial".

And profitsbeard, your prose is great, too.

Whoops, sorry Mr. Kertali. We didnt mean to blow your ass up. We hope that this knowledge will help you feel better. Signed: Al Qaeda in Algiers

The Bible says "God is not mocked. Whatsoever a man sows, that and THAT ONLY is what he shall reap".

If you found a radical Jihadist group and become a leading member of its armed wing; this is what you have to look forward to.

"Security experts say most belong to Maghreb al Qaeda, previously known as Salafist group for Preaching and Combat".

Hmmmm, Will there ever come a time in the good old USA when we will need a "Christian group for Preaching and Combat"??
