More brutality in Egypt. Another case of female genital mutilation. This time the victim is suffering from severe bleeding and is currently in a coma.

CAIRO - Egyptian police are holding a woman who conducted a near-fatal circumcision on a young girl, a widely-condemned practice the authorities are trying to stamp out, the press reported Friday.The victim, Naglaa Khamis, went into a coma and suffered severe hemorrhaging after the removal of part of her genitals, but was saved after being taken to hospital by her parents.
Police took the woman who carried out the mutilation in Minya, south of Cairo, into custody.
The health ministry said, last week, that a law to toughen penalties against female circumcision will be put to parliament when it reconvenes in the autumn, after two young girls died during such operations in recent months.
Until the parliament returns from its holiday, look for the brutality to continue. Anyone in Egypt ever hear of an emergency session?
People found guilty of carrying out female circumcision currently risk up to three years in prison and, in June, health minister Hatem Al Gabali issued a decree banning every doctor and member of the medical profession from performing the procedure.
Now the neighbors are performing the ghastly deed themselves.
The practice, which affects both Muslim and Christian women in Egypt, was banned in 1997, but doctors were allowed to operate "in exceptional cases."Female circumcision can cause death through hemorrhaging, and later complications during childbirth. It also carries risks of infection, urinary tract problems, and mental trauma.
Religious leaders, usually silent on taboos relating to female sexuality, have also started to speak out against the practice, which many Egyptians believe is a duty under Islam and Christianity.
What could possibly justify such brutality?

Three years is all someone could get for doing this?
I doubt egyptians take this seriously then. Three years is nothing compared to what they give others for less horrible crimes.

Keep in mind that the Parliament in Egypt is a rubber-stamp institution. Individual MPs are allowed to rant and rave, but Mubarak is the one with all the power. Unless the military says otherwise, which it won't.
This is happening TODAY in THIS COUNTRY to Somali girls in the Twin Cities area of Minnesota and wherever else in the U.S. there is a Somali population. Although it is against the law and punishable by jail time, the authorities and medical personnel turn a blind eye because it's "cultural".

Are you aware that in the US, in 34 states, it is LEGAL to perform FGM if the female is 18 or over. Under 18, it is illegal in all 50 states.
Another gross part of this report describes Type III FGM where the female's legs are bound together from hip to ankle, for 40 days, to form scar tissue. Type III is the method for 15% of FGMs.
The acceptance of this "cultural" practice is part of the worldwide dhimmitude, but is goes far beyond this. Human Rights groups and Womens groups need to step up to the plate.

Women have to be made "eunichs" in the islamic tradition of FGM. Sexual pleasure is only for men. And so that the women don't tempt men, they must be covered.

The AP headline reads:
There's that damn nicey nice word again "circumcision". Makes it sound so innocent.
Give me a damned break!
People don't die from circumcision! People die from amputation and mutilation.
Now I will hand AP this, in the body of the article they explain why ther term circumcision has been dropped in favor of "female genital mutilation". And even go politely into the horror of it a bit.
But I still resent the headline.
I saw nothing in the article associating the use of the word circumcision to the incident in a substantive way. So it is fair to ask why did AP even chose to use the word in the headline? Even more, why did AP use the word without quote marks around it? That would have been far more fitting given that the use of the word is questioned in the body of the text.

The right to bodily integrity is (or should be) a basic human right. Obviously those who practise FGM claim for themselves the right to alter surgically (most often this is maiming and mutilating in a quasi-surgical manner) the body of another human being.
What, in their minds, gives them this justification? Whatever it is, and there are many facets to this horrible practice, you can be sure that the fear of female sexuality is at its root.
Apparently the trauma and suffering of a female child are as nothing when viewed in the light of saving her from her future sexuality which may otherwise have been (horrors!) naturally determined. And which then may have brought "dis-honour" on the family, a cultural decline in "moral" standards, follwed by the disintegration of ordered patriarchal society -- in a cascade fashion. It's all apparently centred on the female clotoris.
There's no connection between this and Christianity -- why was this included in the article? To fuzzify its link to Islam? The practice may not have originated with Muhammad but he approved of it.
Sometimes, I'm ashamed to admit that I'm a member of this species which inflicts such horrors on its own young.

I am a bit tired of reading, that female circumcision is a Christian custom too. Ever heard about muslim rape of infidels? Ever heard about muslims and infidels as slaves?
The assertion, that Christians in muslim dominated areas just do this as a custum is triumphantly echoed by THE LEFT.
But it is totally wrong.
The truth is, that the Christians never has a choice in the matter. As Dhimmies they have to live under muslim law and do what the muslims do. Or more precise: what the muslims want them to do.
A Christian girl, who could not live up to the muslim idea of chastity might even get STONED.
Circumcision never was a Christian custom. It is and always was muslim barbarism imposed on them.
This practice has no foundation in the traditions of the Coptic Orthodox Church or the Greek Orthodox Church, the two predominate Christian groups in Egypt. If Christians do practice this, no doubt it is done by simple peasants who learned it from the Muslims. Early Christians condemned any such mutilation, voluntary castration (such as Origen's) and even male circumcision.
If their FGM is anything like the castration modern male slaves are sometimes given by their Muslim captors in order to make them eunuchs, it is quite brutal. Many men die from shock and blood loss after having everything removed. Also, two large arteries run very close to the genital area making small mistakes fatal. It is a ridiculous criminal worthless procedure.
Then again, who are we to judge? Islam is superior. **retch**
There should be something done about this practice! A national outcry! This is unthinkable! Sick! Such innocents and nothing is being done to stop this wickness! How we even have anything to do with these places that do this. This shows me how sick muslim-islamist men are! It is in their head to even think of such barbaric act!
