And he must be right, no? After all, all sorts of powerful people in Washington listen to him.
But consider this: if that were really true, would Hamas really encourage Qur'an-reading and memorization? Wouldn't they be afraid that in the course of this study someone would discover all the true, peaceful teachings of Islam, and renounce Hamas and its targeting of civilians?
Yet Hamas doesn't seem troubled by that possibility at all. Hmmm.

Inmates in the Gaza Strip's main prison can now reduce their sentences by one year if they memorize five chapters from the Koran, Islam's holy book, the prison's governor announced Monday.The prison, controlled by the militant Hamas movement since the group's violent takeover of the Gaza Strip in June, holds 350 prisoners, 30 of whom are on death row.
The new scripture program seeks to encourage prisoners to behave according to the Koran's law, prison governor Col. Abu al-Abed Hamid, said in a statement.
Most of the inmates were sentenced before Hamas took power, for crimes ranging from murder to corruption to collaborating with Israel.
There's an Idea in this for the US & Britain:
a law could be passed that convicted Islamic jihadists shall have a year shaved off their sentences if they memorize 5 selected chapters of Ibn Warraq's "Why I'm Not A Muslim" and another year for memorizing Robert Spenser's "Politically Incorrect Guide To Islam".
No doubt CAIR & the ACLU would object on grounds of cruel & unusual punishment. Of course, the Truth can be cruel & unusual.
All memorizing it would do for me was to reinforce their hatred for me. Since I am not only reading all of it now (thanks to http://www.cspipublishing.com/) but I am also reading Mr. Spencer's weekly 'blogging the qu'ran). The unfortunate part for these prisoners is that there is no help for them to make sense of it all and they will probably get a lot of headaches.
Any 5 chapters? The first 5? The chronologically last 5? Otherwise they could memorize 110:114, and be done with it - just 25 verses in all.
Something tells me Hamas won't make it that easy.

The memorization was of the Qu'ran in Arabic. I read a translation of the Qu'ran - in English. According to Muslims - the Qu'ran is only the Qu'ran if it is written in Arabic. Since about 80% of Muslims do NOT read Arabic, there is an emphasis on rote memorization of a book they do not understand.
I will bet that some of the prisoners do not read Arabic.
Anyone remember the state of the church in the Dark Ages? The Bible was produced in Latin and the services were conducted in Latin. If you had a question on the Bible, a priest had to "translate" the appropriate passage.

Last I read if you read the Bible and understood what is simply says you would have eternal life. Sounds like a lot better deal. That is the antidote to the koran.

I don't blame the Jim Guirards and the others of his ilk, the army of paid apologists and traitors, for the almost complete ignorance of the dangers of Islam to the western world amongst our political elite. The blame must lay on our self-titled "leaders" who are too lazy to seek out the inconvenient truth themselves.
Just as in major corporations, lengthy and detailed reports presented to senior management and directors will include an executive overview statement, which is a brief statement of the proposals aims and intended outcomes. Decisions are generally made based on that summary, the body of the report isn't examined.
Our "leaders" operate on the same level. They are way too busy to study the detail, and they are way too "important" to bother with anything which requires study and contemplation. Just give them the executive overview, keep it concise, and don't bother their busy heads with details of any sort.
This is why the Guirards of this world succeed. They apply the KISS priciple, and this is what our "leaders" want.
