IBD: Amanpour whitewashes jihad and smears Jews and Christians

"Amanpour's Apologia" from Investor's Business Daily is an excellent analysis of Christiane Amanpour's recent CNN travesty. This is just the kind of moral equivalence I take on in my book Religion of Peace?.

Global Jihad: CNN's chief apologist for Islam, Christiane Amanpour, has gone too far this time. Not content to just whitewash jihad, she says Jews and Christians are terrorists, too.

According to her new three-part series, "God's Warriors," militant Islamists are really no different than right-wing Christians or Jews. So who are we in the West to judge?

Of course, it's cultural relativism — and journalism — at its worst. What's stunning is the lack of evidence Amanpour provides to support her case.

That CNN would give her six prime-time hours to peddle such tendentious trash to a public still under real threat from Islamic terror speaks volumes about the network's agenda.

The Committee for Accuracy in Middle East Reporting in America slammed the series as "one of the most grossly distorted programs" ever aired on mainstream American TV.

CAMERA was being kind. Amanpour's premise that Christianity and Judaism have spawned just as many terrorists as Islam is absurd on its face.

To be sure, not all Muslims are terrorists. But the vast majority of terrorists are Muslim, or at least claim to be Muslim. Almost all international terror is carried out, falsely or not, in the name of Islam. The data are simply overwhelming.

In contrast, history has produced only a handful of fanatics who commit violence in the name of Christianity or Judaism. Those who do are summarily arrested and punished.

They aren't held up as martyrs. There are no U.S. posters celebrating abortion clinic bombers, or Israeli history books canonizing Jewish settlers who attack Palestinians.

But Amanpour, an Iranian immigrant whose father is a Muslim, wants to change that reality.

She and her Islamic apologist pal Karen Armstrong — a "scholar" she returns to throughout her "documentary" — sugar-coat jihad as inner struggle against sin and not warfare. If you want militancy, they argue, look no further than fundamentalist Christians.

Read it all, and see also "Christiane vs. Christians and Jews" by the estimable Dr. Phyllis Chesler.

She is truly a vile woman

Sorry I missed this show. Not.

She is truly a vile woman

Does anyone actually watch CNN or take it seriously? From the bit I've seen, it seems a complete waste of valuable spectrum.

One of my kids was assigned to watch this series and to my surprise the instructor shredded it and the horse it rode in on (Amanpour).

God's Warriors:

Islam's = suicide bombers, terrorists attacking grade schools, death to anyone who leaves the "faith" of Mohammadism, and a push for a global theocratic tyranny.

Christianity & Judaism's = you are free to believe what you want, and leave our faiths if you wish.

I see Amanpour's contortionistic "equivalency": ---my words are more important than any reality.

And her moral: ---the viewers are morons if they swallow this illegitimate tripe.

I'll admit that I did not watch all of the shows. I do not have to eat an entire apple to discover that it is rotten.

This is the same network that has Glenn Beck and Lou Dobbs?

The FrontPage article really exposes Amanpour and Armstrong for what they are - people who despise the west and will do anything to make the west look bad and promote Islam.

Given that she loves Islam so much its odd that Amanpour doesn't live in Iran or Egypt. You know, practice what she preaches.

I saw this documentary, and it really did make me sick ... I could hardly watch it. Did anyone catch the segment done during a break, which talked about Muslim population demographics? Is CNN outright afraid to tell people the truth of the whole story? No mention of European demographics, and what that entails. Why would they leave this data out of the analysis? It highlights the puroposly misleading, and outright misinformation spewed in the entire segemnt.

CNN showed it's true colors during the bombing of Yugoslavia in 1999. Ever since, if I want completely-disconnected-from-reality-propaganda, I read Joseph Goebels speeches...at least the languge use there is better.

Even worse - Amanpour is a parasite of any large loss of life all over the globe. Like a banshee, her appearance is a sign of death coming. It seems if death is not imminent, the good gal does whatever she can to stir up a conflict. Oh, and she is beautiful too...

I never watch CNN anyways. I dont take CNN seriously. Its for DHIMMIS and for slaves of Islam. You americans need to boycott CNN. From a Pakistani Christian.

Like an idiot, I MADE myself watch the show. All three episodes.
This "lady" Amanpour, certainly knows better about the subject of Islam through her own and her family's experience. I assume she did this for a lot of money.

I learned nothing new in the course of these 6 hours about any religion nor any of the real issues.

At this stage in my own life, I find anything written or broadcast about Islam, that comes from a western source and/or is directed to a western audience, is pure pablum.

Karen Armstrong is a charicature of a frustrated ex-nun, post-Vatican II lovey-dovey, relativist. She remarked at one point about how, as a nun, she found that the religious habit was very liberating and that the years when she wore it, she never had to fear the lecherous glances of men. Well, I got news for you, honey-child, I don't believe that any garb whatsoever would invite the ogling eyes and wolf-calls of the well adjusted male, or even the perhert, for that matter. Rest in peace. No burqa needed. (But, by all means, cover up!"

Now supposing Ms Armstrong related how her parents had forced her into a convent, where the superiors beat the crap out of her if she dressed immodestly, and the bishops and clergy regularly visited and raped the women their right hand possesseth, -a la Maria Monk - there might have been a semblance of equivalence between Christian monasticism and the status of Muslim wives.

The vision of a handful of animated gunny-sacks hurrying through a dusty Afghan market place, fearing the sticks and bats of the Taliban should one of them exhibit a wayward ankle does not conjure up sentiments of Audrey Hepburn as Sister Luke, in her jungle missionary station (The Nun's Story).

I did find it very entertaining when Ms Amanpour was in a car in Iran on the way to meeting a muslim scholar. When arriving at her destination she had to put on some extra hijab-ery in the car, and she was finding the mechanics of it all very difficult. She clearly glanced several times at the car windows, as if afraid that some humanitarian jihadist might see her fumbling with her head-gear.

Regarding the Christian segment, outside of the non-denominational, mega-church and evangelical groups, the mainstream of Christianity (including Orthodoxy, Catholicism, main-line Protestantism) were entirely unseen and unheard from.
The status of Christians in Iraq, Gaza, Egypt, etc. could have added a truer understanding of the "warrior" theme. Since the Muslim warriors have guns, grenades and gullible youths willing to blow themselves up; whereas the Christians have no protection and no recourse and are being driven out of the lanmds wrested from them by the Muslims long ago.
I only watch CNN as a last resort. The silliness and preposterousness of this "show" did not surprise me. I only hope that the majority of viewers saw through it within the first few minutes - or at least by the time the program is mercifully over.
Sadly there are those who will come away from this stupid show seeing us all as one big happy family: the noble Saracens living their religion of peace and defending themselves as utter victims of the west, the devious Jews cheating the Arabs out of their ancestral Palestine, and the zealous, freaky televangelists working hard with their Israeli pals for the Christ to return. (What He will do with the Jewish, "unsaved" friends of these preachers is, unfortunately, a whole 'nother story, alas!)

She sure did and it felt like a swift kick in the ass! She was occupational and not religious- only when speaking of the Palestinians!
Israeli' went an murdered she said, then the Palestinians martyred! such a strong belief!
Even Jesus said, "do not martyr in my name!"

She really showed her colours! I need never watch her again! I know what she is about! What a let down!
It is not the Judeo-Christian dissappearing it is this free advertisement the Palestinians and Iran get from people like CNN and HER!

CNN has a site where you can give feedback:

http://edition.cnn.com/feedback/forms/form6a.html?2

I sent them a note decrying the "moral equivalence" displayed: the secular American saying if the Religious Right had their way, Roe vs Wade would be abolished & the Supreme Court would be conservative!
versus
if the Islamic extremists had their way the Caliphate would rule the world, women would have half the worth of men, and the various sects would STILL be trying to kill each other off for the glory of Allah.

I also mentioned that no Jews/Christians had flown planes into buildings, murdered children in schools, blown up nightclubs, or videotaped beheadings of unbelievers.

She does sleep on the Israeli side though for safety reasons.
No body wants her she would qualify to be a martyr! I got zipp out of all of that no info! Just her exposed! Islam too! Lieing Palestinian woman that was on there too, was not afraid to say that is what we all seek-martyr!

She attempted to show religious moral equivalency and failed miserably at her task.

How about that last line of hers when she says "Jesus comes and kills all the unbelievers." Well yeah, those unbelievers are pretty much all atheists who don’t know their heads from their ass. They are also people who became Satan worshippers. And the time He comes and kills them is when everyone must die, good people and bad people: game over, you either win or lose.

I bet she didn’t mention Islam’s end of time, when specifically Christians and Jews are eradicated and betrayed by Jesus Himself. I recall some people here wanting her to mention it.

This show and all the rest makes me sick to my stomach. I as a woman am insulted every single time they refused to look at my face and shake my hand. I am insulted that a woman can be treated so poorly every day in thier countries. A scarf on her head to say I agree that women are worth less, while doing a so called unbaised documentary using her freedoms as a women to present this trash? What about my equal rights? I have to have my children taught about homosexuality in school while in their schools they teach death to the homosexuals???? The world is going backwards. I am ashamed of these politicians and you so called people of the FREE press. to glorify murder on your show. I never once saw a christian or a jewish family there being happy that thier son or daughter was a cold blooded killer.
God have mercy on us!

The episode on Jewish "Warriors of God" was really vile. In Amanpour's view the State of Israel explains all the Muslim militancy. If only there were no Israel there wouldn't be such anger in the Islamic world. Jimmy Carter's view in other words.

By contrast I found her piece on Christianity pretty mild. Surprisingly mild. Boring even. I guess her heart wasn't in it like it was against Israel.

Hi all,

I cant believe about Amanpour behaviour as its represented here.
Just 6 months ago, during an interview to Rai TV she spoke about Oriana depicting her as the greatest example of ethic and freedom of thought in medias in the last 30 years.

Amanpour only criticized Oriana about her lack of hope in the future evolution of islamic religion and for some "hard" phrases about islam itself.

Sounds strange to ear this absurd equivalency from her, after she showed so deep respect for Oriana.

Yes i saw it ooo. i knew what was going to be, but i just had to do it. And, oh yes i was right. Another piece of s*** i must say. i don't understand who gives that woman right to propagate on CNN. She is considered a corruped fool even in her own branch. Poor idiot understud that her mission is what? to make peace between Christians and Muslim? more understnding? Somehow all her shows are about muslims and their side of the story. i mean someone should send her to do weather or sports. But you never know, maybe she would find a way to do her agenda even in that segment.
