Police closed the Taj Mahal and placed parts of Agra city under curfew after Indian Muslims burned trucks and battled police to protest the deaths of four community members hit by a lorry.The accident occurred around dawn in Agra when the men were returning after marking "Shab-e-Barat", or the "night of forgiveness or atonement", when Muslims pray for the dead.
Angry crowds set fire to 11 trucks, including the one involved in the accident, said state police officer Brij Lal.
"With curfew imposed in six police circles of Agra, the area in and around Taj Mahal is also completely shut to public as a precautionary measure," Lal said.
Television footage showed smoke billowing over one neighbourhood, young Muslims clashing with police and a line of trucks burning fiercely.
"They are hurling bricks at police sent to stop the violence in one area but the situation is coming under control as our people are on the job," Lal added.

In a sane country, when people are killed in accidents, we have police investigations and sometimes even special inquests. If citizens feel that traffic lights need to be installed in a bad area, or that speed limits need to be changed or enforced, they organize and petition their local government.
We don't use it as an excuse to go on a truck-burning, looting, tourist-endangering rampage.
It's called civilization. We don't live by mob rule.

Even we have bad people willing to use a car accident to provoke a riot. At least they're the exception. The Crown Heights riot was sixteen years ago. Our problem is that anyone who wants to discredit us can point to such incidents, no matter how long ago, as "proof" that we're no better. We'll hear from Muslims and from their sympathizers that the US has its own dark pages in history where similar things have occurred. We'll also be told that the lorry rioters were not representative of Islam - they were the exception. Then the "who are you to judge" chant begins anew and we quickly back down. When does the cycle stop?

When someone ran down some Sikhs in Vancouver Canada, there were just some collective community grief, flowers, and some angry concerns about elderly drivers expressed. This tragedy involved 6 dead and 20 injured, however there was no rioting.
Not all religions are the same, some are actually more peaceful than others. Sikhism is more peaceful than Islam. Actually, all other major religions are more peaceful than Islam. One day collectively humanity religious and secular will realize what Islam is and then collective deal with this ugly theology by globally condemning it as an anathema to human civility.
