An update on this story. According to the Malaysian government, Islam Hadhari, or "Civilizational Islam" is a ten-point program "consistent with the tenets of Islam and focused on enhancing the quality of life," and though it is presented as progressive, it does not seem to address the Bumiputra system of preferential treatment for Muslim Malays, the government's unwillingness to recognize the conversions of ex-Muslims, and other injustices.
Still, the Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party is none too pleased. "Rep: PAS has issued fatwa against Islam Hadhari," from The Star:
KUALA TERENGGANU: PAS has issued a fatwa (religious edict) to punish those practising and preaching Islam Hadhari, deeming them infidels.
State Islam Hadhari and Welfare Committee chairman Datuk Rosol Wahid, replying to a question by Alias Abdullah (BN - Alor Limbat), said the fatwa was issued by a young PAS leader and his declaration was disseminated in a series of gatherings to the masses.
"We have all the necessary evidence in the form of recordings and written material to substantiate the fatwa issued by PAS," the state executive councillor said.
He urged the religious department to investigate and act against the PAS leader who issued this fatwa.
Rosol said the religious department had also identified 84 mosques that had been misused by PAS leaders to preach their version of safeguarding Islam.
"They hurl all of kind of accusations and lies in their bid to disunite Muslims," he added.
The assembly continues today.
I support this takfir internecine war among Malay Mohammedans, just as I support the wars between Hamas and Fatah, Shia vs Sunni in Iraq, Pakistan, and any other potential civil wars in dar ul Islam.

Apparently "Restrictionists and racists" are the sort of people who will be opposed to this. I dont know which one of these categories I fall under, perhaps the author of the article can help answer that, but I do know that these people need to have serious background checks first.

That's a good way to deal with the illegal immigration problem - draft them all, and then send them to Iraq. You'll see many of those hard workers hightail back to Mexico.
Some have been opposed to this on the grounds that it lowers the standard of the military. Fair point, but once Iraqis encounter a less compassionate US Army and a lot more 'Abu Ghraibs, Hadithas'..., they'll be forced to clean up their act.
An alternative to this plan would be to offer US citizenship to illegal immigrants who make a 3 layered fence across the entire border working at minimum wage.
....A good way to deal with illegal immigrants is to refuse to grant them drivers licenses, credit cards, bank accounts, welfare payments, subsidized housing, jobs, free schooling, free ob/gyn services, unemployment checks, no issuing of business licenses, no SBA loans, no car loans, .....if they are not legal....no benefits....
